00:00There are not many people in Canada who could try to pull this off and who have both the connections
00:06and that level of credibility.
00:08Derek, how significant is this meeting? Is this moment for Canada?
00:12I think I've been describing it to people as the biggest economic and political story probably of my lifetime.
00:20Because really since the 1980s, and arguably even before that, the entire trajectory of Canada economically has been pulling closer
00:33and closer with the U.S.
00:36And that's for everybody who's under 50, that's all they really know.
00:44And now we've seen what's being called as a rupture, a fracture, choose your term.
00:50But it's very real and present.
00:52So I think this is a significant moment.
00:55And the idea of trying to pull closer to Europe is both difficult and also has a certain degree of
01:03public appeal to Canadians who understand Europe.
01:09A great many of us have roots in Europe, have grandparents and parents and aunts and uncles and so on
01:16who were born there or live there.
01:18And so I think it is a real shift in mindset for the whole country.
