00:00I've had a number of conversations, whether it's with Demis Asabas, Dari Amadai, Sam
00:04Altman, specifically about these issues and how to balance innovation with a form of governance
00:12that takes safety into account.
00:15Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is calling for a Global Technology Stability Board to
00:20oversee artificial intelligence and establish international safety guardrails.
00:24Modeled after the Financial Stability Board he once chaired, Carney says the framework
00:28would drive safer AI adoption while generating greater economic value.
00:33That's just one of the takeaways from my interview with the Prime Minister.
00:36His proposal comes as Carney hosts major global investors at a Toronto summit with the aim of
00:41drawing billions of dollars of investment into Canadian projects, spanning AI data centers,
00:46LNG terminals, critical minerals and more. The push for AI regulation puts Carney in contrast
00:51with US President Donald Trump, who has generally dismissed guardrails in favor of unrestrained
00:56development. The investment summit also comes as Canada has to contend with a difficult economic
01:00environment due to the collapse in US trade talks last month and new tariffs on both sides of the
01:05border. But during our conversation Carney said Canada would eventually come to an agreement on
01:10trade with the US. He said Canada is ready to sit down and negotiate.
01:14We're ready to sit down and negotiate that and move it forward. So I welcome the President's comments.
