Tantalus committed one of the most horrifying crimes in Greek mythology. According to the myth, he killed his son Pelops and served him at a feast to test whether the gods could recognize what they were eating. They did. The gods restored Pelops, and Tantalus was condemned to eternal punishment in the Underworld—surrounded by food and water he could never reach. Was his punishment justified, or can even the gods take revenge too far?
