00:00PAS is urging the government to explain why the Federal Territories Pardons Board
00:05deferred discussion of former Prime Minister Najib Razak's pardon application to its next meeting.
00:11PAS Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan said he believed the matter would not have been deferred
00:17without a request to do so, or opposition to the application among FTPP members.
00:24Takiyuddin maintained that the government should explain the deferment
00:28because Najib's application was a matter of public interest.
00:33Proceedings of the Pardons Board are classified under the Official Secrets Act.
00:38On Friday, the Prime Minister's Department's Legal Affairs Division said
00:43Yandi-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had consented to defer Najib's application to the next FTPP meeting.
00:51The Board, chaired by the Agong, had been expected to consider Najib's second pardon application.
00:59Najib was convicted six years ago of misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International funds.
01:06His 12-year jail term was later reduced to six years and his RM210 million fine cut to RM50 million.
01:15In December 2025, Najib was convicted of abuse of power and money laundering involving more than RM2 billion, linked to
01:241MDB.
01:25He received 15 years jail and an RM11.38 billion fine.
01:32He is appealing the conviction.
