00:06modi two postage stamps have been released uh marking the 18th brick summit in india and the
00:1320th anniversary of bricks the prime minister in his address had earlier spoken of how
00:20in 20 years bricks had become mature and now had responsibilities right now he spoke of
00:28how there were the bricks member part countries were committed together changing world order
00:36cannot be governed by old order so he spoke of equal representation responsiveness and rulemaking
00:44uh the changes that are happening there equal role and participation of global south uh
00:52pramit pal chowdhury the adoption of the new delhi declaration this was being seen as a as a huge
00:59uh you know hill to climb a tall order but they've been able to do that especially when you've had
01:05uh you know countries like uae iran uh saudi arabia are not on the same page foreign ministers meet
01:11they couldn't come to a uh to a discussion but they burnt the midnight oil and succeeded what does
01:17that indicate sir well it indicates i think we're we're uh one a success in indian diplomacy that we
01:24were actually able to get a joint statement at all in a brick summit in which three members are
01:29actually physically at war with each other right now that's almost impossible but getting them
01:34together on to share a photograph on the same podium was an accomplishment in itself and then to
01:40them to also agree to a joint statement i agree with the language not be very exciting but that was
01:45what you would expect but as you said you actually produced a joint statement which is unclear
01:50that's an accomplishment uh and in fact if you go through the bricks members you realize how many
01:55of them are very hostile to each other india has a problem with china ethiopia and egypt are daggers
02:01drawn over the nile river uh water disputes um and so on so you have a situation where the bricks
02:07you
02:07have a lot of deep internal divides here and yet you were able to get them to come together to
02:13make a
02:13statement and my personal view is that the fact that saudi arabia uae uh and iran came is not only
02:21a
02:22testament to their desire not to offend or to embarrass prime minister mondi and india all of whom all
02:29three of them see india as a crucial partner remember iran right at the beginning when this war broke out
02:34said there are six countries who are our friends uh who are exempt from paying dues on the ships whose
02:41shipments will be allowed to pass through on moves and one of them was india uh uae mbz one of
02:48the only
02:48countries he's visited since the war has come out uh in fact the only gulf leader to come has come
02:54to
02:54india uh uh so on so forth so you have that element to it that's one and second i think
03:01what we're going
03:01to start to see is that this is the beginning of a back channel or even a formal channel of
03:08discussions
03:08between the gulf arab states in iran you're already seeing reports that the gcc the gulf cooperation
03:15council members which include both saudi arabia uae but also kuwait uh and so on are now looking at
03:22the prospect of meeting iran official level to discuss the future of the straits of all moves so
03:30you're now looking at this i would argue this is the thin edge of the wedge of a potential major
03:36diplomatic movements uh to bring no end to this war you know speaks speaks volumes about indian
03:43diplomacy uh they burnt the midnight oil in fact they worked till dawn uh i i'm told that uh as
03:50praday was reporting 5 30 uh they were still in conversation and finally uh diplomats heave the
03:57sigh of relief that everyone ambassador sajjan har was on the same page we were able to do it in

04:02we've been able to do it uh at brics the world may be at war but in india they find
04:10reason to move
04:11forward in the direction of peace sir no absolutely you're very right and you know this is what i think
04:17even on your program i had mentioned and i've also written about this several days ago that we will be
04:23able to come to a consensus declaration yes because that is what uh you know the world needs that is
04:30what uh bricks needs and i think we've been able to achieve that india's excellent relations with all
04:38the uh countries and although there might have been sort of you know some attempts there have been talk
04:44about let's make it into an anti-western organization anti-western grouping and body like iran definitely would
04:51want something of that sort even initially china also although china would be going to the united
04:58to washington for the g2 yes for yeah for this meeting for apec meeting so they would like to
05:06not ruffle mr trump's feathers so also putin would not like to ruffle trump's feathers too much because
05:13they are on a very sensitive stage as far as uh you know getting some sort of a solution on
05:19the
05:19russia ukraine conflict is concerned so for all that reasons and for you know not uh getting on
05:26the wrong side of india uae saudi arabia and iran would definitely have looked at some uh language
05:37positively which perhaps common ground they came to uh on on war i'm told that they were very clear no
05:44specific nation will be mentioned by name uh what sources are telling india today on the brics joint
05:51declaration the stress was laid on need to engage in conflict prevention efforts including addressing
05:59it through their root causes reiterate our commitment to peaceful resolution of international disputes
06:07through dialogue through consultation and through diplomacy remember this has been india's long-standing
06:15uh posture that find solution through dialogue and diplomacy here dialogue consultation and diplomacy
06:24have been added advocate for a multilateral uh approach that respects diverse national viewpoints and
06:31position on crucial global issues voice serious concerns about rise of unilateral tariff non-tariff measures
06:41which distort trade are inconsistent with wto rules and express concern about growing risks of nuclear danger
06:49and conflict the joint declaration also then goes on to talk about encourage continuation of discussion to
06:59facilitate practical solution for cross-border payments among brics countries condemn in position of unilateral coercive measures
07:08that are contrary to international law and we will discuss this threadbare uh general dylan quite an achievement
07:17for india for the to be able to to get everyone to come on the same page for the new
07:23delhi consensus
07:24sir the new delhi declaration
07:28guru yes firstly to get everyone together in the same place that is delhi was a big achievement then to
07:37speak
07:37to them individually and collectively and make them agree to come to a consensus statement or a declaration
07:43i think that's another diplomatic achievement especially when the countries are at war when they were signing this
07:51declaration they were at war that point has to be understood when the nations are at war they don't
07:57even look at each other now here because of the diplomatic efforts of india they have been able to sit
08:03together on the same table they have been able to sit and sign on the declaration mutually agreeing to that
08:10point of view i think that's a big big diplomatic achievement and that is the reason i always say india
08:17should stand
08:18on its two feet the world will come to us because our multilateral alignment is the way forward in this
08:26connected world today we should point that out and india has repeatedly made that point that from non-alignment
08:33to multi-alignment and how it's held india in great stead before i get you more on that story um
08:39and also uh the fact
08:41that china will be the next host of the brick summit so that beton passes from india to china
