06:35I think he was really angry to lose the pole there.
06:38But big, big pressure on George today because he's 59 points behind Kimi.
06:41He needs to maximize the opportunity with Kimi starting in the back of the grid
06:45because of that engine change.
06:47So huge pressure on George.
06:48But he has a fast race car.
06:50Gasly was not so fast on Friday free practice when he was practicing for the race.
06:53So I think George has to be the big favorite and all chances there.
06:56Kimi on the other end, starting last.
06:58Lewis did the same thing in 2022.
07:00He started 19th on the grid, finished fifth with the Mercedes at the time.
07:05So I think Kimi has a similar opportunity.

07:07I don't think top three because you have the Ferraris going fast.

08:11He's got a tenth of a second in his pocket.
08:14His teammate is obviously going to be, with the field spread in the first few laps,
08:17a long way behind.
08:18So you still have to say, if George can get out front and build any kind of gap,
08:23he is the favorite for this Grand Prix.
08:25Last couple of races, I mean, you're saying,

08:42is building a gap because the leader is inevitably going to be
08:45punching a hole in the wind for everybody else.
08:47I believe they're probably going to stay in a train.
08:49So actually, being in the lead might not be the most favorable position.
08:53So I don't think, you know, of course they want to execute.
08:56Of course he wants to make damage into the points to his teammate.
08:58But this is a track where he will be able to get past them.
09:01So it's about the long game in the race today.
09:03And about the in-run, well, particularly for Kimi Antonelli.
09:06Play that long game, see how far forward he can get.
09:08Yeah, Antonelli, to have a spectacular result today,
09:11Antonelli needs a safety car or some quirky shunt in the first corner or whatever.

15:30And, you know, I've been out for too long,
15:33but it doesn't usually take a lot of time
15:34for you to sense the soul of a car.
15:36And this car was definitely screaming at me
15:38and wanted to go faster.
15:40So, yeah.
15:42But it's obviously so much more than just driving.
15:44I mean, I really enjoyed it as well.
15:48And I miss it, you know, in moments like this.
15:51But then, you know, I think in the bigger picture,
15:54this sport has given us so much.
15:55Michael, myself, and, you know,
15:58towards the end of his career,
15:59we really started talking and opening up
16:01about, you know, things that matter in life.
16:03And apart from lap time and tire degradation,
16:07and I think today is one of these moments
16:08where, you know, it's also a reminder that
16:12for me personally, how much I love the sport still.
16:15And even though I'm not racing anymore,
16:16I'm still very much connected
16:17and I probably always will be.
16:20And that's why I also care so much.
16:22And, yeah, in this sense,
16:24I very much think which fits is that
16:26there's still a race to win.
16:27And it's just a different one
16:29than it used to be in the past.
16:31So times are different.
16:33But, yeah, before I get too nostalgic,
16:36yeah, it's been a very, very special moment.
16:40And for your friend, Michael,
16:41of course, a serendipitous moment
16:42because, you know, once in 2008
16:45on a wet qualifying day
16:46and a young man called
16:48Sebastian in a Toro Rosso,
16:49an unfancied car at the time,
16:51got pole position.
16:52You never know, an unfancied car,
16:53an Alpine Pierre is on pole.
16:55Yeah, well, he's pulled it off before.

18:42to wear red in Italy
18:43other than Charles and Lewis.

18:49Ferrari's home race is such an incredible event for you guys.
18:52Take me back to that moment
18:53where you first became aware of Ferrari
18:55and what it represented.
18:57It was in my Italian days
18:59where I was racing and karting.
19:02And to speak with the mechanics
19:03and seeing the passion,
19:05for me, the eyes never lie.
19:07And when you speak to an Italian
19:09and when you come to Monza as well
19:11for the first time,
19:12you really see that it means a lot more
19:13than just sports and racing.
19:16I did karting over here.
19:17So I had been around Italians
19:19and already had kind of a taste of it then.
19:23But it's much different in Ferrari.
19:26I had some difficult times,
19:28quite a lonely period for me.
19:30What I would do is I would just channel it
19:31into my driving.
19:32I was like, okay,
19:34we'll see what happens when we get on track.
19:36We often say that in Italy,
19:38Ferrari's a religion.
19:39And I honestly believe that it's
19:41as close as it can possibly be.
19:44I mean, it's a very, very special feeling.
19:46But then when I did my first Monza in 2019
19:49with the team,
19:50to see the amount of Tifosi
19:52and obviously I've had the chance
19:53to also win it that year,
19:54was extremely special.
20:02Ferrari seems to generate a passion
20:04that very much transcends the sport
20:06and this world that we're in.
20:08Why do you think that Ferrari have this power
20:11to drive such passion?
20:13First of all,
20:14I think there's very much something
20:15from the Italian culture
20:17that Italians are very emotive
20:19and that's what makes Ferrari
20:21so special as well.
20:23Something I just always cherish with Ferrari,
20:25even when I wasn't in this team.
20:26I remember there was a race
20:27when I was in Singapore.
20:29I got out of my car
20:30and get out to celebrate with my team
20:32and my team wasn't there
20:34and Ferrari celebrated with me.
20:36When I was like,
20:36okay, you guys are my team this weekend.
20:39Michael Schumacher crosses the line
20:41to win the Italian Grand Prix.
20:45We can never talk about Ferrari
20:47without thinking of Michael Schumacher.
20:49Do you have an early childhood memory of Michael?
20:51When I was maybe seven or eight
20:52and we were lucky enough
20:54to be able to meet him
20:55and he signed my suit
20:56and the driver I was looking up to
20:59was the one winning
20:59and that was Michael.
21:01I watched Michael
21:02and of course watched in awe.
21:03The car was just awesome.
21:05His helmet,
21:05the style he had,
21:07had a huge admiration for him
21:09and what he was able to do consistently,
21:11how we would deliver
21:13and how he would lift the team up.
21:14For sure, lots of inspiration.
21:18Take me through those emotions
21:19and what you felt
21:20when you realized
21:21I'm going to be a Ferrari driver.
21:23I mean, I spent so much of my time
21:24trying to beat Ferrari.
21:26I'd walk past the other teams
21:27and I got a different feeling
21:28from the Ferrari team.
21:30You walk past the red guys
21:31and they would say,
21:33Vini Ferrari, Vini Ferrari
21:34and I was like,
21:34wait, they want me to come to Ferrari?
21:36It's a day, a moment
21:37I'll forever remember.
21:39I was with my friends actually
21:41and Mauricio Arrivabene called me.
21:44He left like 15 seconds blank
21:46without speaking on the phone.
21:47I was like, okay, what's going on?
21:48I said, no, I'm joking.
21:50You're actually a Ferrari driver next year.
21:51Oh my goodness.
21:53Harsh.
21:54Yeah.
21:55But good news at the end of it.
21:56Very good news.
21:57When Stefano was here,
21:59I'd spoken to him a couple of times
22:00and back then,
22:03Fernando had veto rights
22:04and was the number one driver
22:07and probably didn't want to be my teammate again.
22:11The stars never aligned.
22:13It wasn't going to be tears or anything like that,
22:15but it would have always been what if.
22:17You know, I was really grateful to John
22:19and to Benedetto and to Fred
22:22for, you know, offering me the opportunity.
22:25It would have been very, very easy
22:26for me to have given up last year.
22:28I've achieved everything and more,
22:30but I've kept pushing on
22:32and not knowing what the future could hold,
22:34but that's the exciting part.
22:37What is that feeling like
22:38to come here and represent Ferrari?
22:39I chose my suit,
22:41what I wanted to wear
22:41and how I wanted it to be
22:42and such a moment.
22:45It's not just racing culture.
22:48It's also the fashion community
22:50and also black culture.
22:52Bringing a combination
22:53of all those communities together
22:55is something I take huge pride in.
22:58You can really feel
23:00that the city has stopped
23:02for that week for Monza.
23:04It makes you feel the responsibility more,
23:07I will say,
23:07than any other racists.
23:08It's just positive pressure.
23:10I come here humbled by the Tifosi,
23:15by the experience,
23:16by this culture, this team.
23:18What I'd like kids to know
23:19is like vulnerability is not a weakness.
23:22It's a strength.
23:23Hopefully they could see.
23:24I mean, I felt through that experience
23:26connecting with the fans
23:27that I wasn't alone.
23:28Why do you think Ferrari
23:29have this incredible fan base of the Tifosi?
23:32My desire to help them get to where
23:35I truly believe they deserve
23:36and think that Tifosi deserve as well.
23:38because the love they shed on this team
23:40and all these years,
23:42they deserve it too.
23:43Again, I think what makes it so special
23:45is that it goes through generations.
23:48And there's just such a positive energy,
23:50as I was saying.
23:51There are people that are traveling
23:53from all around Italy
23:54to just come to see us,
23:56to see the team members,
23:57to cheer for Ferrari.
23:58So it's a very special week.
24:00And as you said,
24:01it really feels like the whole country
24:03is behind us.

37:51And it's clearly him because there's no car door.
37:55So there's no one in there by bearing a remarkable resemblance, of course, the Berndt Myerlander's safety car.
38:01Now, as promised, before the break, Lando Norris just signed a new contract until 2030, caught up with Martin Brundle
38:09early this week.
38:15Lando Norris crosses the line, and for the first time in his racing career, he is Formula One champion of
38:24the world.
38:26No, no, no, no.
38:27We made a history, true.
38:29Thanks so much.
38:31Lando, that tree there is 250 years old.
38:35I mean, your McLaren career is not quite that long, but it's brilliantly heading that way.
38:42So we signed up until at least 2030.
38:46Yeah.
38:46Happy about that?

38:49Probably the easiest contract I've had to sign.
38:51Probably the hardest one from McLaren
38:53in terms of how much I wanted to push them.
38:55But I couldn't be happier.

39:00what we've achieved over the last few years.
39:02They gave me my opportunity in Formula 1.
39:04They gave me that opportunity the last couple of years
39:06to win a World Championship.
39:07I can't really ask for a lot more than what I've been given.

39:10They're my family, it's my home back in MTC.
39:12And I believe we can still repeat that many more times.
39:16It was an easier decision, I guess, than last time around
39:19when the team were really struggling
39:20and you went, I'm staying here,
39:23when you probably had loads of offers to go elsewhere.
39:25You know, this looks like McLaren could be
39:27your entire Formula 1 career.
39:29It could be, which is, I guess, just exciting.
39:31You know, the fact that it's still within Formula 1,
39:33the fact that I'm with the team I loved as a kid,
39:37it's not a bad thing at all, you know?
39:38It's not a bad thing.
39:39It's just not a common thing that a driver's with one single team.
39:42And you never know what the future holds,
39:44but, you know, for as long as I'm very happy with the people it's with,
39:47you know?
39:48And it's not just the fact that we're doing a good job now
39:50and we've turned things around from, you know, 23, 24,
39:53but it's the fact that there's the important people,
39:56the people who make the car quick,
39:58the people who keep the team together.
39:59They're there for a good amount of years, too.
40:01And that's crucial to me.
40:03But your phone must have been ringing.
40:04Your management must have gone and put some feelers out in the paddock.
40:08I don't know what my manager does sometimes,
40:10but there's opportunity, of course.
40:13But opportunity, that is positive.
40:18There's opportunities to gamble at times.
40:20And I'm also a driver that I would take, you know,
40:24one or two tougher years over instant success,
40:28as I did a few years ago with McLaren.
40:30A good amount of it is also, am I just happy?
40:33And I'm happy even...
40:34I was happy to be with McLaren even when we weren't winning,
40:37because I'm still in an amazing opportunity
40:39and I still get to do the job I love
40:41and travel and do all these things.
40:49Zandvoort, brilliant victory.
40:51Where would that rank in your top Formula One victories?
40:55The beginning of the race, didn't have high expectations.
40:58Then things turned around.
41:00We kind of created an opportunity from somewhere
41:02and managed to get past, you know,
41:03the one guy I need to get past
41:04if I want to keep this year alive.
41:06It was just well thought.
41:08My opportunity was one opportunity, obviously,
41:09to overtake him into Turn 1 with Lewis in the way.
41:12And I made the most of it.
41:14So it was just a well-structured race
41:16from a strategy point of view,
41:18creating that opportunity with the fresher tyres
41:20and to make the most of those opportunities when they arose,
41:22which was that one which I capitalised on.
41:25So certainly up there, I would say within the top three or four.
41:29How much more upside is there for you, do you think,
41:32with your driving?
41:33I mean, I can confidently say
41:35I feel like I'm able to extract more to myself
41:37this year than I was last year.
41:39But I guess it's just always what else can I improve?
41:42What else can I do?
41:42And I've improved a lot this year,
41:44which is almost a year too late in some ways,
41:46but better late than never.
41:48So I certainly think there's a lot of stuff
41:51that I'm able to capitalise on now
41:52and extract out of myself.
41:55I'm definitely at the best I've ever been,
41:57but there's certainly always more.
41:58It's reassuring because the team lost their way a little bit with these 2026 cars.
42:02Everything is obviously correlating because they're finding their way again
42:05and getting you back on track.
42:07You know, is there still a chance you could become world champion this year realistically?
42:12I think realistically, most people would doubt it just because I'm still 85 points behind or something.
42:19It's still an incredible amount against a driver who's doing a very good job
42:22and maximising things pretty much every single weekend.
42:25and I want to believe it's possible for sure.
42:32If you're wheel-to-wheel with Kimi, you've got nothing to lose, have you?
42:35Yeah. No, this is the position where things are much better in my direction
42:40compared to how I was last year.
42:42Kimi is incredibly quick as he's certainly proven,
42:44but of course, you know, he's young and inexperienced with certain things.
42:49And that's not a bad thing.
42:50That's just the nature of him being in the second year of F1
42:52and I just need to make sure I use my experience and use that as a positive thing over him.
42:59Now, Silverstone, Home Grand Prix, you've got the Lando stand and all support everywhere.
43:05This weekend in Monza, they're going to be here for Kimi and Ferrari.
43:11Yeah.
43:11I mean, you're not going to get a lot of love out there, are you?
43:15I hope so. I mean, I don't know.
43:18Unlikely that it will be quite as much support as Silverstone.
43:20I love Monza for that reason, though, not for the fact that they all support the others,
43:25but because it's just a wonderful atmosphere to try and embrace.
43:28The podium is probably one of the coolest podiums you'll ever get to witness,
43:31especially when the color red is on top or the driver is Italian.
43:35So I'm looking forward to it. It's an amazing track, one I've enjoyed since I was a kid.
43:39I know the support's not going to be there, but that's also where sometimes I almost enjoy it more
43:42is when you don't have all that support and you try and prove people wrong.
43:53Come on then, Nico. Let's go back to this, because Martin and myself and Ermi have been having this debate
43:58all weekend.
43:59You say that Ferrari can't go there and prioritize, but Oscar is a long way behind Lando,
44:04who in turn is a long way behind Kimi. If they're going to try and catch him, do they have
44:08to prioritize?
44:09So you're saying McLaren should do a number one, number two driver set-up now?
44:12Well, I'm asking you whether they should.
44:14First of all, oftentimes there's also contractual, like, writings in Oscar's contract
44:19that he's always going to be treated as a number one driver, so that's one hurdle to overcome,
44:23which I had in my contract, for example. But otherwise, of course, McLaren should as soon as possible.
44:28It's just it's still a little bit early in the championship, so I don't know when,
44:32but at some point they might try and move that way.
44:34Because also, Lando is doing such an amazing job this year. He's driving better than ever,
44:39and he's clearly the best driver at McLaren, except for yesterday in qualifying.
44:42But at the moment, he's on a high.
44:44Oscar tried to help him yesterday, but the toe went wrong.
44:46It did go wrong. So yes, they were going to use Oscar to help him yesterday.
44:49He obviously locked up into turn one, and I mean, I was still surprised that he didn't get enough of
44:54a toe
44:54down this main straight to give him the difference, but he did still improve on that lap.
44:59But here, Oscar locks up. He has to abort the lap, use the bit of runoff there through the gravel
45:03trap,
45:03and yeah, that kind of cost a London opportunity, Lando an opportunity to have a toe around the rest of
45:08the lap.
45:09But honestly, I do think that McLaren yesterday were a bit of a dark horse there.
45:13They were able to optimize their deployment from FB3 to qualifying, and we saw true pace from them.
45:19I just think that execution that they lacked in those last runs cost them some position.
45:24So I think that they'll be relatively threatening today as well.
45:27Let's see, again, busy on the grid. Pierre's just popped out of his car and disappeared, I think, for a
45:33couple of breaks.

45:36Kimi, it's finally the day of your home Grand Prix. What's this week been like building up to your home
45:42Grand Prix?
45:43Yeah, it's been a crazy weekend for me so far, but I've been enjoying so much and it's so good
45:49to be back home, you know, in front of these incredible fans.
45:53And yeah, hopefully today we can put on a show.
45:56Unfortunately, starting with a penalty today. So what's the strategy?
46:01I mean, it's to full push, you know, just going to try to recover as many places and hopefully, you
46:08know, we can do a good race.
46:12This is the back of the grid, nothing behind us, just like Kimi Antonelli.
46:18Well, you can smell the flares from the amazing crowd here.
46:22This is all Kimi Antonelli's stash down there of drink and crash helmet and hands device.
46:29Probably wish that the team colors were white for the umbrella and not black, I'd imagine, to keep it a
46:34little bit warmer.
46:34But just sitting there patiently, the world championship leader with his engine penalty starts 19th of the 20 cars on
46:43the grid.
46:44And we'll see if we can get a feel for what he's got to pass through.

47:30be about where I reckon we'll be.
47:32So, you know, as soon as we get to that P8, that P8, P7 slot, then yeah, things are going
47:37to start to get to.

48:19So they won't be a problem in this early phase as long as he can stay out of trouble and
48:25not get caught up in other people's trouble.
48:27So we've got the racing bull there looking glorious on the grid.
48:35And we're moving forward. Then the Williams. We've got one Williams at the very back of the grid with engine
48:41penalties.
