01:15ahead of Hugo Ugachuku and Rodin Motorsports.

01:20There would be drama for championship leader Freddie Slater
01:24qualifying down in P17 for the first session
01:30and P8 for the second session.
01:33His championship rival, Hugo Ugachuku,
01:36P4 and P2 giving him a great chance
01:40to try and close that championship gap
01:42and take the title away from the British driver.
01:46Welcome, everyone, to the first ever race
01:49we're going to see here at the Madring circuit.
01:51The Formula 3 sprint race is up first
01:53where we flip round the top 12 drivers from Q1
01:57leaving James Wharton on pole.
01:59My name is Chris McCarthy.

02:02Piers, we're excited for this one.
02:03I'm so looking forward to this, Chris.
02:05And the fact that you just mentioned there
02:07that it's the first ever race we've had
02:09at the Madring in its history
02:11is not to be underestimated.
02:13These drivers have no experience of what's going on
02:16and already there's been issues for Canato Leeds.
02:19You can see there the wheel shroud not present.
02:21There was a piece of something that flew off the car
02:24we're hearing on the way to the grid.
02:25But back to that point about the circuit, Chris.
02:28These drivers have no experience
02:29and they don't know what the first lap's going to be like.
02:32Let's have a look at what happened to Canato Leeds.
02:33Oh, yeah.
02:33There is something that's fallen off there.
02:35Yeah.
02:38So it looks like it's come off the front left of the car.
02:41Brake disc coming off.
02:43So that's unusual.
02:44Yeah, the disc itself has actually shattered.
02:46That's part of the actual disc itself.
02:48Very unusual.
02:49And the Team ART doing a great job
02:51to look like they've got that car ready
02:52and ready to go for the race
02:54in very quick turnaround.
02:56So stress for Canato Leeds.
02:57Team-mate Taito Carter was very, very quick.
03:01So we know that the ART car has got pace.
03:03Yeah.
03:04And drama for Freddy Slater as well.
03:06He had issues with the car yesterday that he reported.
03:09So he's only had this opportunity to see if it's all OK.
03:12Yeah.
03:13He had a list of complaints, didn't he, in qualifying.
03:15Front left wasn't working.
03:16Throttle sticking open.
03:17Car was crabbing.
03:18They did a quick few component changes
03:21in between the two qualifying sessions.
03:23But the damage was already done for Session 1,
03:25which sets the grid for this sprint race
03:27and the feature this afternoon.
03:28But we'll keep an eye on what Slater can do from 17th today.
03:31He needs to make places.
03:32Absolutely.
03:33So now this is qualifying one grid.
03:37The sprint race where we reverse the top 12
03:39from the back of the grid.
03:41We've got Nando Vudbrun Bakhti and Niccolò Maccagnani.

03:46We had a couple drivers withdraw coming into the weekend.
03:49Noah Stromstead and Fernando Barrichello
03:51are next on row 13.
03:53Very disappointing qualifying there for Noah Stromstead.
03:56Then we have Michael Shin and Jose Garfias on row 12.
04:00Row 11, Brando Badawer,
04:03another driver in the fight for third in the championship.
04:05Our 13th different winner last time out,
04:07Niccolò Lecorte, is next.
04:09And all ART row 10 with that Canato Lee
04:12and Maciej Gualic.

04:15Hiyu Yamakoshi would have been disappointed
04:17with that seventh in the championship.
04:19Then our championship leader, Freddie Slater,

04:23In both races today,
04:24Mateo Kilnaghi is going to be on row 8

04:28After that, Finn McLaughlin,
04:30the Red Bull junior, goes on row 7.
04:33And Mateo Di Paolo next to him for Trident.
04:36Taito Kato will lead us away
04:38in the first of two feature races later on.

04:44and second in the championship,
04:46Ugo Ugachuku on row 5.
04:49Enzo Deligny is going to be next.
04:51He is alongside Jin Nakamura,
04:54who's had great pace all weekend.
04:56Ernesto Rivera is on row 3
04:58in the fight for third in the championship,
05:00leading that fight.
05:02Alessandro Giusti, the Williams-back driver,
05:04is next.
05:04Then the home hero, Bruno Del Pino,
05:07goes off row 2.
05:08Alex Powell in just his second race meeting
05:10in a Formula 3 car is next.
05:12Then it's Teofil Nile,
05:14fourth in the championship.
05:15He goes on row 1 with James Water next.
05:18Now, how does this all work?
05:19We've got three races this weekend.
05:21Two qualifying sessions.
05:22This is the first session,
05:23which has set the grid for the sprint race.
05:26Top 12 flip round.
05:27Then we have the feature race coming up later.
05:29You can score 10 points
05:31for winning the sprint race.
05:32So points go from P1 down to P10.
05:36And then 25 points available
05:38for the winner in the feature race later.
05:40And that's where Ugo Ugachuku can do the damage.
05:43Then we have another feature race tomorrow.
05:45Qualifying 2 has set the grid for that.
05:48Tuka Tafanen will lead us away
05:49from Ugachuku and Pedro Clero
05:52with Freddie Slater starting in eighth.
05:54We'll talk more about that.
05:56Let's hear from the top three drivers on the grid,
05:58starting with Alex Powell for Prima Racing.
06:05I think around here,
06:06you have to expect everything.
06:08So my goal is just to look forward,
06:09do the best that I can do,
06:11and then we'll see what happens.
06:13Still happy to be at the front row
06:15and looking at the pace that we had
06:17since the beginning of the season during the race.
06:20Yeah, looking forward.
06:22Yeah, well, I hope Niles hoping
06:24and thinking about the championship
06:25because if he's not,
06:26it'll be a little bit more sketchy than I expect.
06:28But at the same time,
06:29I just need to have a good start
06:30and hopefully get across into T1
06:32and then just lead from there.
06:33And hopefully it's like everyone says
06:36and a hard overtaking track.
06:38Piers, you could argue
06:39there's going to be more eyes on this F3 race
06:42than ever before.
06:43This is the very first race
06:44around this brand new circuit.
06:46We're going to see 30 FIA Formula 3 cars
06:49go flat out through La Monumentale
06:50on that first lap,
06:52because that's going to be a sight to behold.
06:54And it's going to be interesting.
06:55I think we'll have a lot of racing driver eyes
06:57on this one,
06:58Formula 2 drivers,
06:59Formula 1 drivers even,
07:00because the flow of traffic on a first lap
07:03is very important
07:03to a successful and risk-free first lap.
07:06And there's been no case studies.
07:08There's no videos online.
07:09There's been no experience
07:10of any of these drivers
07:11how the circuit goes.
07:12Every other circuit we visit
07:14on the Formula 3 calendar
07:15is a circuit where the drivers
07:16have either raced previously
07:17or there's been Formula 3 races
07:19for years gone by
07:21and the drivers know
07:22where you want to place the car
07:23or you don't want to place the car.
07:24Where's high risk?
07:25Where can you overtake?
07:27Around here,
07:28they will have thought about it
07:29like I have this morning
07:30and I expect it to be fairly
07:33turbulent in the first lap.
07:34I think there's going to be
07:35potentially some clumsy incidents
07:36because the racing line as well
07:38has been rubbering in aggressively
07:40throughout the weekend.
07:41A lot of track evolution.
07:43But off that racing line, Chris,
07:44it's going to be dusty,
07:45it's going to be dirty,
07:46it's going to be low grip
07:48and that will potentially cause issues
07:50when people are trying to overtake as well.
07:52And we haven't seen much tyre degradation either.
07:55So I think drivers will be pushing pretty hard
07:56all the way through and from lap one.
07:59Yeah, regular fans would have noticed.
08:0028 drivers out there.
08:01Ricardo Escoto had to withdraw on medical grounds.
08:03JRG sadly also had to withdraw as well.
08:07Wish them both the best.
08:08But that is going to be some sight still.
08:11What's going to be going through the mind
08:13of James Wharton out there
08:15leading all this field away
08:17for the first time in racing, man?
08:19The thing that James Wharton could do now
08:21is get a good launch away from the line.
08:22If he can have a bit of breathing room
08:24down towards turn one,
08:25that'll make his lap one and race so much easier.
08:28I think we're going to see a lot of drivers
08:30potentially take to the cut throughs
08:32and the runoff areas fairly easily on this first lap.
08:36Just trying to stay out of trouble.
08:37It's a high-risk situation
08:38to go side-by-side through these corners
08:39for the first time.
08:41And the drivers will be trying to avoid an incident.
08:43As much as we've got a lot of time
08:44with for the feature race later on,
08:46you don't want to give your team
08:47any extra work to do.
08:48And Ugo Ugochuku,
08:50if he stays exactly where he starts
08:52in both races today,
08:54P9 in this one
08:56and P4 on the grid later,
08:58he will be just one point
08:59behind Freddy Slater
09:00going into the season finale
09:02where he will be on the front row
09:03and Slater will be on row four.
09:05Basically, if everything happens
09:06as it is on the grid,
09:08which it never does in Formula 3,
09:09it'll be a straight shootout tomorrow, Chris.

09:38at the brand new Madring circuit.
09:40Who is going to be
09:41the very first race winner
09:42around this circuit?
09:44To the right of screen
09:45is Teofil Nihal.
09:46To the left is James Wharton.
09:48And we are go for the very first time
09:50here at the Madring.
09:51And the race down to turn one begins.
09:53And it's going to be
09:54the white campos of Teofil Nihal
09:56who gets down the inside
09:57and goes into the lead of the race.
09:59You can see the blue Williams
10:01literary there of Alessandro Giusti
10:03having to run slightly wide
10:04through the first corner.
10:06But it's Nihal leading Wharton.
10:07This will be one of two DRS zones next time.
10:10The other down the start finish straight.
10:12And James Wharton wants that lead back.
10:14You can see him charging down the inside
10:16and takes the lead away.
10:18Sliding into the chicane,
10:19but he goes straight over it.
10:20So who is going to be the leader now
10:22in the race?
10:23Nihal will want that lead back,
10:25but he's got Alex Powell
10:26in his mirrors, Piers Frye.
10:27Oh, it was a voyage into the unknown,
10:28into the 5-6 chicane
10:30as Nihal actually was the one
10:31who had got the better start.
10:32But Wharton cut the chicane.
10:33I don't know whether he'll be able
10:34to keep that place
10:35because he breaks so late
10:36he was never going to make the corner.
10:38Nihal did well to actually hold off Powell
10:40as he made a mistake through there.
10:41We're stringing out further back.
10:42It looks pretty much single foul so far,
10:44but everyone pretty much threw cleanly.
10:46Yeah, Nihal is agreeing with that as well.
10:4828 cars charging round La Monumentale
10:52for the very first time.
10:54And you can see in the red ball livery,
10:56Ernesto Rivera trying to get himself up the order.
10:58Powell is defending.
11:00It's Del Pino.
11:01He's trying to get past.
11:02That's who all the home fans
11:03will be wanting to see
11:04on that top step of the podium
11:06as Nihal now goes through.
11:07James Wharton allowing him back pass.
11:09Interesting, yeah.
11:10That was, I think,
11:11good strategic work there from James Wharton.
11:13He could potentially have got
11:14a more hefty penalty.
11:15We've already seen
11:16on the run down towards turn four
11:18without the DRS.
11:19It was unable to affect a pass.
11:22The toe looking very strong down there.
11:24We're going to have double DRS zones.
11:25Don't forget, back-to-back,
11:26start, finish,
11:27and then down towards turn four
11:28once we've completed the first full lap.

11:34Yes, he is.
11:35This is coming through turn 20
11:36for the first time.
11:37Mugachikou, second in the championship.
11:40Can't really afford to get any penalties
11:42to affect his grid position later,
11:44so he's got to be strategic
11:45in how he moves forward.
11:47Freddie Slater has dropped a position.
11:49He's down in P18,
11:51the Trident driver,
11:52and our championship leader
11:53as we complete the very first lap.
11:55And it's Teofield now leading the way.
11:56We jump on board now
11:57with our championship leader.
11:59Yes, Slater down one.
12:00I did notice you look at the left front tire,
12:01that patch there.
12:02That was the tire he locked up aggressively
12:04in the second part of qualifying,
12:05so almost sacrificing that damaged tire
12:07in this race
12:08where he's not able to score
12:09very many points at all.
12:11So I don't think Slater's going to be
12:12particularly racy this morning.
12:14He will just hope
12:15that that Trident power has been fixed
12:16since the problems he had yesterday.
12:18Yeah, it's going to be a race
12:19where he finds out exactly
12:22if all is okay.
12:23It would have been a really
12:25long evening of work
12:26for that Trident team yesterday.
12:28We'll have DRS going down
12:29the start, finish straight
12:30and next time also
12:31on the run down
12:33to turn four as well.
12:34But we watch second
12:35in the championship.

13:21for Slater this morning

13:23really going to score
13:24points in this race
13:24but he's just trying
13:25to put himself
13:25in a position
13:26for tomorrow's race
13:27to be able to move forward
13:28because that's going to be
13:29the critical one

13:31the first feature race
13:32later is where he can
13:33really do the damage

13:46and become back-to-back

14:06Well, this is going
14:06to be interesting, Chris,
14:07as to how powerful
14:08the DRS is.

14:09estimations and calculations
14:11but also down towards
14:13turn 5, 6 chicane.
14:15Is it better to go left
14:16so that you're on the
14:16inside of the entry
14:17or is it better to go right
14:18so that you're on the
14:20inside for the entry
14:21but then the outside
14:21of turn 5?
14:22You could go either way
14:23because the braking zone
14:24is snakes from one way
14:25to the other.
14:26That's going to be
14:26something the drivers
14:27are going to have to
14:28figure out
14:28as with many of the
14:29parts of this circuit.
14:30And also, once again,
14:31if you brake offline,
14:33the circuit's going to be
14:34dirty.
14:34It's high risk.
14:35You could easily lock
14:36a tyre and then
14:37there's barriers on the
14:37exit pretty much every
14:38corner.

15:22in qualifying.
15:22That was sort of
15:23air temperature
15:23close to 30,
15:24track temperature
15:25in the high 40s.
15:26It's now only 22
15:27degrees first thing
15:28this morning,
15:2911.15 local time
15:31whereas the track
15:32temperature is 36
15:33degrees.
15:33So, I don't think
15:34the tyres will fall
15:35away.
15:36We saw drivers able
15:36to do three,
15:38four, five flying
15:39laps but there
15:39wasn't also,
15:41there wasn't,
15:41it was not much
15:42drop-off at all
15:43but we may see
15:43some front graining.
15:44Right, the start
15:45then,
15:45Teofil Nard has got
15:46a good launch
15:46away from the line
15:47and then once he
15:48was on the inside
15:48there was nothing
15:49that Wharton could
15:50do.
15:50The lock-up on the
15:51inside there of

15:54I think Gina Nakamura
15:55went their way

15:57side through there

16:11for the first time.

16:15through there
16:15ahead.

16:17contact wasn't it

16:18Not quite.
16:18So everyone doing
16:19well to avoid any
16:20collisions and then
16:21this is where
16:21Water lets Nile
16:23back through having
16:25cut the five, six
16:26chicane to take that
16:27position first of all
16:28and did well
16:28actually to keep
16:29the Tees' teammate
16:30and GST behind as
16:31well.
16:31Yeah, and coming
16:32around turn 15
16:33there you can see
16:33the drivers going
16:34four wheels over the
16:35Y line.
16:36And that's something
16:36they'll have to be
16:38careful of throughout
16:39this race.
16:39They do not want to
16:40pick up the penalty.
16:41No, absolutely not.
16:43That's one of the
16:43areas where track
16:44limits is going to
16:45be enforced and
16:46potentially drivers
16:46can quite easily
16:47make a lapse in
16:48judgment and get
16:49rack up their
16:50free warnings which
16:51will then turn into
16:52five, ten second
16:53penalties if they
16:54keep doing it.
16:5518, 19, Norte
16:56and turn 19 where
16:58the drivers are just
16:59trying to cut the
17:00inside of the corner
17:00here right there.
17:01That was an example
17:01of going over the
17:03white lines there.
17:03so that will be
17:04logged and you
17:05can't do that too
17:05many times.
17:07No, not at all.
17:08What do you think
17:09is going to be going
17:10through the mind of
17:10Freddie Slater right
17:12now down in 18th

17:14Do you think you'll
17:14know his day to try
17:16to go and fight for
17:18the championship will
17:19be tomorrow?
17:19I think Slater knows
17:20that this race is
17:21effectively sacrificial
17:22and again I remind
17:24you that he did a
17:25big lock up in the
17:26second part of
17:26qualifying yesterday
17:27on this left front
17:28tyre.
17:28Big flat spot.
17:29We saw that in the
17:30pits.
17:30He's using that
17:31same set of ties in
17:32this race so he will
17:32be struggling with
17:34front grip.
17:34It'll be a bit of a
17:35vibration which again
17:36consolidates to me that
17:37sprint race, lower
17:38points, starting 17th.
17:40They're not expecting
17:41much in this race.
17:42This is basically a
17:43shakedown to see if the
17:44car is okay after the
17:45issues.
17:46I would imagine that
17:47the Trident team have
17:48absolutely taken that
17:49car apart and rebuilt it
17:50overnight to ensure
17:51that he has the car to
17:53go racing today.
17:54But he'll just be
17:55basically trying to
17:56keep himself in the
17:57groove, keep himself in
17:58the zone.
17:58He was quick.
17:59Purple sector won
18:00yesterday.
18:01He was quick when it
18:02was going well.
18:03He'll be just hoping
18:04that he can then make
18:05some inroads in the
18:05feature later on.
18:06You can see the

18:07It's currently down
18:08from 15 to 13.
18:10It means a podium
18:10finish later will give
18:12the championship lead
18:13to the American
18:14driver Ugechuka when
18:15we jump on board with
18:16him now, Piers, as
18:18they make their way
18:19around the right hand
18:20of the chicane that
18:21takes us up to La
18:22Monumenta.
18:23Yeah, 10-11 chicane.
18:25It's quite a technical
18:26section of corners
18:26actually.
18:27It's the start of the
18:28second sector.
18:29You have to balance
18:30the throttle, balance
18:31the car, then flat out
18:32we go in Formula 3
18:33through La Monumenta
18:34even in the tow.
18:35Then a big braking
18:35zone down towards
18:37turn 13.
18:37Not really an
18:38overtaking opportunity
18:39unless you get an
18:39excellent run through
18:40La Monumenta.
18:41And then we start
18:42this end of the
18:43second sector, start
18:44of the fair, where
18:44it's pretty much
18:45corner after corner
18:46after corner.
18:47There's no mental
18:48respite around this
18:49circuit, Chris.
18:49Once you get into
18:50turn 4 and 5, you're
18:51pretty much turning
18:52left or right until we
18:54enter the final sector.
18:54Now, I think this is
18:56to do with the very
18:56first corner, isn't it?
18:58Giusti and Del Pino.
19:00Giusti being told to
19:01give the place back.
19:01He went to the
19:02outside of the
19:04Spanish driver into
19:04the first corner.
19:05Did cut over the
19:07chicane, but he feels
19:08he was ahead at that
19:09point.
19:09Interesting.
19:10It's quite late to return
19:11that position, Chris, on
19:12lap 5.
19:14Clearly MP feeling that
19:15if they didn't do so,
19:16then the penalty was
19:17coming their way.
19:18But no, good heads up
19:19driving.
19:20It's better to concede
19:21one position and a
19:21point than it is to get
19:22a five-second penalty
19:23applied later in the
19:24race and fall well
19:25down the order.

19:29I've got to say, Powell
19:30driving a really good
19:31race from what is just
19:32his second weekend.

19:35Ugachuku trying to take
19:37points out of Freddy
19:39Slater doing a good

19:41He'll just be waiting
19:41for that opportunity
19:43and Del Pino has got
19:45one step closer to
19:46putting himself on the
19:47podium positions on

19:51showing himself in the
19:52mirrors there to Del
19:53Pino behind his
19:54Ernesto Rivera.
19:55This is getting into a
19:57very close three-way
19:58fight for fourth place.

20:09well, very impressive
20:10indeed, but he's
20:12holding off his
20:13team-mate for now.
20:14We keep an eye on
20:14this battle, this is
20:15fifth downwards, isn't
20:16it, Chris?
20:17Rivera, driver that
20:19actually arguably should
20:20have been higher up the
20:20grid, especially in
20:21that second part of
20:22qualifying.
20:23He's been looking
20:23really strong towards
20:24the end of this
20:25season, the driver,
20:26rookie driver, the
20:26only rookie in
20:27Campos, but he's
20:28fighting for third
20:29place in the
20:29championship as well.
20:31Yeah, as USD now
20:32has just been no
20:33further investigation,
20:34so perhaps that was
20:36heads up from MP to
20:39just allow that place
20:40back and on board with
20:42Rivera, we can see that
20:43fight just ahead of us
20:45now.
20:46Here's a look at what
20:48happened.
20:48This is Deligny, isn't
20:49it?
20:50And that is Nakamura.
20:52So that is Deligny going
20:54ahead of Nakamura there
20:56and that is the fight for
20:57P7.
20:58Is that going to be another
20:59one on the radio to think?
21:00Well, we didn't see if
21:01Deligny was ahead before
21:02they went into turn four
21:03and five.
21:04He was only defending and
21:05cut through the chicane
21:06because he breaks too
21:07late.
21:07He may well get away
21:08with it, but if he came
21:09from behind and break
21:10late to get ahead, then
21:11I think he'll have to
21:12give that place back.
21:14Down the start, finish
21:15straight on to lap
21:16seven of 16 here.
21:19Points go down to your
21:21top ten.
21:21Currently, just at the
21:23end of that top ten,
21:24we've got Tuka Tapanen,
21:26the driver who will be on
21:27pole position for the
21:29second feature race
21:29tomorrow.
21:30These are the two
21:30drivers that shared
21:32pole position yesterday.
21:33Taito Kato was
21:34incredibly entertaining
21:36to watch, wasn't he,
21:37in qualifying?
21:37Yes, the driver,
21:39Taito Kato, who was
21:40pushing absolutely to
21:41the limit, he touched
21:42the wall a couple of
21:43times on his way to a
21:45very, very strong
21:46qualifying indeed.
21:46He was fastest in the
21:47first session, hence he
21:48went off 12 for this
21:49race as Uga Chukwu.
21:51Monsters the curves
21:52through five and six.
21:53Absolutely no lack of
21:54commitment there.
21:56And Tuka Tapanen was
21:57third in that first
21:57qualifying session.
21:58Very, very solid indeed.
21:59And then went even
22:01better to take pole.
22:03Kind of, I think we
22:04kind of out of nowhere,
22:05it wasn't out of nowhere
22:05here, hence being third
22:06in the first session.
22:07But he didn't set any
22:08powerful sectors in that
22:09final qualifying session,
22:10but still managed to take
22:11pole after he pieced it
22:13all together.
22:13Any driver to do the most
22:15consistent sectors, put
22:16them together and was on
22:18top.
22:18But the MP,
22:19interestingly, has not
22:20been particularly quick in
22:21sector one, but has been
22:21very good in two and
22:22three.
22:23So maybe a sunny high
22:24downforce or something
22:25high traction set up
22:26they've got on there
22:27where sector one
22:28dominated by long
22:28straight line line.
22:29And Uga Chukwu has
22:30lost the DRS to
22:32Nakamura now.
22:33We ride on board with
22:34the driver second in the
22:36championship here and
22:37can't afford to be too
22:38careful because Tuka
22:40Tapanen won't want to
22:41stay there and he's not
22:42alone either.
22:42You can see behind we've
22:44got Kato, Klero, drivers
22:46who are in their own
22:47fight for third in the
22:49championship.
22:49And that's a fight which
22:51stretches 32 points goes
22:53from Ernesto Rivera down
22:55to Mattia Kilnagy in P13.
22:58There can be some big,
23:00big changes there.
23:01Tuka Tapanen, P9 in the
23:04championship.
23:04He could leave this
23:05weekend and end on the
23:07championship podium.
23:08I think Tuka Tapanen's
23:09got a genuinely good
23:09chance of being at least
23:11in the top five, maybe
23:12even as you mentioned,
23:13Chris, in third place
23:13with a third and a first.
23:15As you mentioned, only a
23:16few points separating those
23:18drivers.
23:18It's basically a 10-way
23:20fight for third in the
23:21championship.
23:22Legitimately 10-way.
23:23We're not even hamming
23:24that up as commentators.
23:26No, absolutely not.
23:27There's going to be a lot
23:29of maths going on with
23:30that one tomorrow.
23:32And Uga Chiku now has
23:33his mirrors full of a
23:35driver who has something
23:36really to fight for here
23:38in terms of the
23:39championship.
23:39He can get onto that
23:41championship podium and
23:42he's not alone either with
23:43Taito Kato just behind.
23:45From a driver's point of
23:46view, Piers, your thoughts
23:47on this circuit so far.
23:49I love watching the
23:50drivers push to the limit,
23:51close to the wall,
23:52sliding their way through.
23:53The hard tyres as well
23:54from Pirelli this weekend
23:55mean the drivers are not
23:57having to preserve their
23:58tyres so much so they're
23:58absolutely on the ragged
23:59edge through all these
24:00medium, slow speed corners
24:02where the walls are close.
24:03A lot of long apexes as
24:05well.
24:05Very much enjoying it.
24:06I think the overtaking so far
24:08has proved slightly tricky
24:09but it is definitely
24:11possible as we've seen some
24:12moves the first few laps
24:13haven't we?
24:13Do you think there's an
24:14element of time management
24:15going on at all?
24:16Or do you think this is a
24:17track where they can really
24:18attack it?
24:19It looks to me in these
24:21Formula 3 cars like there's
24:22not much management going
24:23on at all because the
24:24angle of the cars, the car
24:26is sliding, hard tyres, it
24:28doesn't seem to be going
24:29away a huge amount.
24:30We saw drivers doing three,
24:31four, some even doing five
24:33flying laps in qualifying.
24:34It means that you can push
24:35hard and also Chris with it
24:37being at quite high altitude
24:38here, you know, we're over
24:39650 metres above sea level.
24:41The downforce is much lower
24:42than we expect at circuits
24:44that are close to sea level
24:45as well so there's less force
24:46going through the tyre,
24:47less load going through it.
24:49The cool temperatures this
24:50morning as well, track
24:51temperature, I say cool,
24:5337 degrees is relatively
24:54cool compared to what we had
24:56yesterday.
24:56It means that they're
24:57holding up well.
24:57The only thing we're going
24:58to be keeping an eye on I
24:59reckon is that left front tyre.
25:00Some may struggle with a bit
25:02of graining at this sort of
25:03phase of the race towards
25:04the end.
25:04It's watching them
25:05yesterday, it seems it was
25:08a track perfectly suited to
25:10F3, didn't it?
25:11Really attacking the kerbs,
25:12the drivers going right out
25:14to the edges of the circuit
25:17allowed many comparing it to
25:19the likes of Macau as well.
25:22The drivers all really
25:23enjoyed it.
25:24Freddie Slater amongst
25:25several drivers who had it
25:27as perhaps their favourite
25:28circuit on the calendar.
25:29A lot of comparisons being
25:31drawn to Macau as well,
25:33which holds the annual Macau
25:34Grand Prix, which previously
25:36was held in Formula 3 cars
25:38like this, more recently has
25:39been done in Formula
25:41regional cars, which is
25:42halfway between Formula 4 and
25:44Formula 3.
25:46Coincidentally, our championship
25:47hopeful Uga Chukwu is a
25:48previous winner there, as is
25:49Teofil Nile, our current race
25:50winner.
25:51But the circuit actually has a
25:53lot of comparisons to that
25:54circuit in Macau.
25:55It's street circuit, walls are
25:57close.
25:57GZG USD without DRS, so
25:59therefore Rivera being told to
26:01push on.
26:01But the walls are close, you've
26:03got some one corner leads into
26:05another, a lot of medium speed
26:06corners, narrow sections, and
26:07then also, it's quite, literally
26:09it's very, very similar.
26:10The last sector with lots of 90
26:11degree corners and then a long
26:12straight is very reminiscent of
26:14that.
26:14And if you haven't seen the
26:15Macau Grand Prix, then
26:16definitely tune in for that
26:17later on in the year, because
26:18it's great to see a lot of these
26:19drivers who will be on that
26:20grid as well.
26:21You can see Campos there just
26:24being told to put pressure on
26:26GST.
26:26All three Campos drivers
26:27currently in the top ten.
26:29The Trident drivers, meanwhile,
26:31are struggling so far.
26:32You can see Matteo DiPaolo is
26:35in 13th place.
26:36Noah Stromsted down in P21 and
26:38then Freddy Slater in 18th, so
26:40all three of them out of the
26:42points.
26:42This could be a race where
26:43Campos firmly put one hand on
26:46that team's title and Freddy
26:47Slater has been unable to make
26:49any progress so far.
26:51Remains in 18th place.
26:52Yeah, he dropped one position
26:54from 17th on that first lap and
26:56then hasn't been able to push
26:57on there.
26:57I mean, Yamakoshi in front, no
26:59slouch.
26:59He currently sits fifth, sorry,
27:00seventh in the championship, a
27:02driver that's taken a win this
27:03season and another win on the
27:04road as well.
27:05But he's not been able to make
27:07much progress either.
27:07So that middle sector with the
27:09lots of medium speed corners
27:10proving difficult for the
27:12drivers to make a headway
27:15through there.
27:16There's a lot of track limit
27:18violations coming in.
27:19I think several of them are down
27:22at Norte, as you mentioned, on
27:24the inside for drivers running
27:27four wheels over the white line.
27:30Very easy to do, I imagine,
27:31particularly when you're in a
27:32battle like this.
27:33It is easy to do, Chris, but
27:34actually getting track limit
27:36penalties through there, Norte and
27:37turn 19 as well is actually, I
27:39would say, a bit careless to be
27:41honest because you're not actually
27:42on the ragged edge of grip.
27:43I can understand it or expect it
27:45more from the exit of corners,
27:47maybe like the likes of turn 13,
27:50where else do we see it turn 17
27:51as well, where you maybe break a
27:52little bit late and run wide.
27:54But through that 18, 19 section,
27:56you're basically just placing the
27:57car where you want to and just
27:58placing it beyond track limits.
28:01You're going to be expecting
28:02penalties and if you get a penalty
28:03with that, the team will not be
28:04happy.
28:04No, that's a very good point.
28:06On board, we ride with Ernesto.
28:08There's an example there and that
28:10was pushing the limit.
28:11That was basically, yeah, that
28:12was basically bang on.
28:12That was perfect from Rivera.
28:14We are on the white line, but no
28:15further.
28:16Anyone else that cuts the inside
28:17there, again, it's just precision
28:20is part of the skill of being a
28:21good racing driver, especially in
28:22Formula 3.
28:23Once again, through that turns 19
28:26corner as well, you're doing the
28:27same sort of thing.
28:28Being precise is required and
28:30especially in a race like this
28:31where overtaking is not
28:33particularly easy.
28:34You're giving away positions if
28:35you're having to think about
28:36potential five-second penalties
28:37later in the race, whereas you're
28:39gaining mere thousands from
28:40cutting the track a little bit
28:41there.
28:42That's a very good point.
28:43The team will be exactly on the
28:45phone to the drivers to let them
28:47know if those track limit
28:50violations coming in, which they
28:51are coming in quite frequently, I
28:54have to say.
28:56Ugachuku starting to catch Nakamura
28:58back up.
28:59Mazda Billen, an element of tyre
29:01saving from Ugachuku here.
29:03Nakamura is in behind Enzo De Ligni, so
29:07Ugachuku with an opportunity to get a
29:09couple more places.
29:10Is this the stage of the race where
29:11we start to see maybe a little bit of
29:15tyre wear coming in?
29:16Maybe.
29:17Because, again, we mentioned a couple
29:18of times that the tyres seem to be
29:20holding up okay, but then that
29:21unknown quantity of front graining.
29:23And looking at the front left tyre of
29:25Ugachuku there, it looks pretty bang on.
29:27When you see graining, it normally looks
29:28like a darker band of rubber appearing
29:31on the, normally just inside, just
29:33outside the inside shoulder of the tyre.
29:35But none of that so far.
29:36There's been a couple of drivers I've
29:37been keeping an eye on.
29:38It looks like there's a bit more
29:39opening up.
29:40But maybe Campos were predicting that
29:43and they gave Ugachuku the
29:45instruction to just drop off the back,
29:47give your front tyre a bit of a chance
29:48to cool off a little bit.
29:49Maybe don't get too much in the dirty
29:51air.
29:51But there'll be a bit of a natural
29:53ebb and flow of pace as well as
29:54drivers, to a certain extent, get used
29:56to the circuit.
29:57They've only had, granted, the in-season
29:59test a few weeks ago, but the circuit
30:00very different.
30:01Then that practice session where it was
30:03basically qualifying simulations and
30:04then quality.
30:06There's a lot of eyes on them as well
30:07in this one.
30:09And this is the first time they would
30:10have done a race.
30:12Oh, as Tapanen goes wide there,
30:14doesn't he?
30:14And that's going to allow Kato to
30:16close back in.
30:17So Tuka Tapanen will have to be
30:19looking in his mirrors.
30:20But this is going to be a learning
30:22experience for everyone in the paddock
30:25out there today, isn't it?
30:26Watching the Formula 3 cars go around
30:29for a full 16-lap race, the teams,
30:32drivers, going through data is going
30:34to be even more crucial than it usually
30:36is in a weekend like this.
30:38Yeah, I think there'll be more setup
30:39adjustments and alterations during
30:41this weekend than potentially we see
30:42at most other events as well, because
30:44the track evolution has been so high
30:46with a brand new circuit, the rubber
30:47going down aggressively with F3, F2 and
30:50Formula 1 cars.
30:52And then also with them having to take
30:54curbs like Taito Kato does through turn
30:57one there, we saw Kato launch over that
30:59curb and lose his grip on the steering
31:00wheel yesterday.
31:01But as they learn more about the circuit,
31:03they learn more about the grip conditions
31:05and they learn more about what the car
31:06requires to go quickly around here,
31:08they'll be making adjustments throughout the
31:09weekend between sessions.
31:11The pace is certainly out there.
31:13Teofil Nihal has just gone over a second
31:16quicker than anyone as Taito Kato going past
31:19Tapanen for P10 there.
31:20Looked like he went round the outside on the
31:22approach to the 5-6 chicane up towards the
31:25bunker now.
31:26And we've got Klero in just behind.
31:28De Paolo is there as well.
31:30And that looked a good move from Kato there
31:32going by Duka Tapanen.
31:34Yeah, that looks like one of the first DRS
31:36affected passes that we've seen.
31:37We saw a move down there for the lead on the
31:38first lap, but Walton had to give that one
31:40back.
31:41But then Kato, we only saw the back end of it,
31:43didn't we, Chris?
31:44But Kato was ahead, took a lot of curbs through
31:465 and 6.
31:46But he went round the inside of 4, which put on
31:49the outside of 5, but then carried enough speed
31:51that he got past Tapanen.
31:53Good stuff from Kato.
31:55He will lead us away later.
31:57Tapanen will lead us away.
31:58Let's have a look back at the overtake.
32:00Yeah, looking backwards from Tapanen goes to the
32:02left-hand side to defend here.
32:04This is another thing.
32:04The drivers don't know which side to defend.
32:06They'll be thinking, well, is it better to defend
32:08right or defend left?
32:09Ultimately, at that point, I think Kato had so
32:10much overspeed, it wouldn't have made a huge
32:12amount of difference.
32:13But the drivers don't know where the main
32:15overtaking opportunity is going to be.
32:17Is it going to be inside or outside for these
32:19bent braking zones where you're going from one
32:20side of the circuit to the other?
32:22Something that could make a difference in the
32:23championship fight.
32:24Enzo Deligny is under investigation for leaving
32:28the track and gaining an advantage.
32:30If he's to be given a penalty there, that will be
32:32an additional point to Ugachuku as long as he's
32:36within range to take advantage.
32:38So things like that can make a big difference.
32:42And that's where Ugachuku got to let the positions
32:45come to you in a race like this.
32:46Yeah.
32:47And let's not forget also Ugachuku was second in
32:49qualifying for the second feature race.
32:51And that was only by two hundredths of a second.
32:55So Sugasuku was two hundredths of a second away from two
32:57additional points yesterday as well.
32:59Fine margins in this championship, Chris.
33:01And speaking of, Ugachuku is now caught Nakamura once
33:04again.
33:05So there is a chance for the American driver to make some
33:09ground as they go through that five, six chicane.
33:12And up towards the bunker now, Clara will know his races
33:17are going to be in the feature, qualified in the top three
33:20for both races.
33:21There's Matteo DiPaolo next.
33:22What's going to be going through the mind of DiPaolo's
33:24teammate, Freddie Slater here.
33:26He's been unable to make any ground.
33:29He's going to be going from P17 again later on, P8 for the
33:33feature race tomorrow.
33:35In what could be effectively a head-to-head fight,
33:38whoever's ahead on track wins the championship.
33:40Is there, is he going to be worrying, the team going to be
33:43worrying about what they're seeing?
33:44I think inwardly, probably, although there is confirmation
33:47of that penalty for Deligny, so that's going to help
33:49Ugachuku.
33:50But I think inwardly worrying, outwardly we'll see a lot
33:53of, we're working hard, we're going to push on regardless,
33:55this, that and the other.
33:56But ultimately, when you've got your team, sorry, your
33:58championship rival right up there in the points and you're
34:01unable to make ground further back, it's going to be hugely
34:04frustrating for Slater.
34:05But he has to basically put that behind him and think,
34:07right, I just need to concentrate on my job, which is go out
34:11there and drive the best races possible.
34:13Qualifying is done.
34:13I can't change that.
34:15It's gone badly, but hey, that's racing sometimes.
34:18He needs to really lock in today and just do what he can,
34:21try and get anywhere near the points, try and make
34:22improvements on the car as well.
34:24Just take in what the car is doing, take in the circuit
34:26evolution, because if you can make a step forward compared to
34:29everyone else in terms of your driving or the setup as the
34:32weekend and the circuit evolves, then you're giving yourself a
34:34better opportunity for either the feature yesterday, later on
34:37today, or that final additional feature tomorrow.
34:41Enzo Deligny with a penalty, meaning Ugeciku will gain an
34:46additional point.
34:47He'll go from scoring two points to three points and that will
34:50bring the gap in the championship down to 12, meaning if Ugeciku
34:54finishes where he starts later and Slater is unable to get into
34:59the points, they'll be tied on points going in to the final race
35:03of the season tomorrow.
35:05And that will be a concern for Slater.
35:08Easy for us to say, isn't it?
35:10How hard is it as a driver to put all of that to one side and not
35:14focus on a major championship fight you're in and just go out
35:17there and, as you mentioned, try and make improvements on the
35:20car.
35:20Well, we've got side by side running into the middle sector here,
35:23Chris, side by side in the back of shot there.
35:25We haven't seen that at this corner yet, as also we've got
35:28battling further back, too.
35:29It's very, very close to here.
35:30That's Stromstead right on the back there of Matej Gwadish.
35:34Yeah, that's a fight for P19.
35:36Here they come around La Monumental now.
35:39So there are drivers who are finding pace towards the end of this
35:44race over the rest of their competitors.
35:46Terfil Nile is definitely one of them.
35:48He is six seconds clear from James Wharton.
35:50I want to spend a bit talking about the driver in third place as
35:54well.
35:54Alex Powell, just his second weekend in a Formula 3 car and he is on
35:58to finish on the podium.
36:00What a superb weekend Alex Powell is having so far.
36:04As you mentioned, was the quickest driver yesterday from his team,
36:09Prima Racing, and now looks like he could go out there and finish on
36:14the podium.
36:15Yeah, very impressive from Powell.
36:16He's doing a great job and also keeping his teammate at bay as
36:19well, 1.7 seconds behind.
36:21Just keeping him within arm's reach, maybe even just dropping back and
36:25just assessing what the car feels like.
36:27Because if you sit in the dirty air the whole race, you actually have a
36:30worse understanding of what the balance of the car is actually like.
36:33But very impressive indeed from a driver that has basically only done
36:36Euro Cup 3 and some Formula Regional racing up until now.
36:41Well, yeah, fifth place he was in that Euro Cup 3 championship fight.
36:47Got some podiums in that as well.
36:50Incredibly talented driver and a really successful karting career as well.
36:55Won lots of major championships with very highly rated Alex Powell.
37:00So it would be good to see him join us going into next season as well.
37:04Here we can continue to see, though, the championship leader, Freddie Slater.
37:09That a championship lead that could change in the first of two feature races
37:15later.
37:15We will have the final race of the season at 9.45 local time tomorrow.
37:20Six o'clock later will be when we go green for feature race one.
37:23On board with Slater.
37:25Yeah, Slater now right behind the two ahead.
37:27It's Yevon David that ultimately doesn't have the overall pace at this stage.
37:30He's turning into a bit of a cork in the bottle as he's got a bit of a train
37:34forming behind.
37:35Only this lap and one more to go.
37:37So not much longer to make moves here.
37:40But, yeah, you can see pretty much most of the tail from this whole group.
37:42Yevon David was quick in different sectors of the circuit.
37:44But it was interesting to me that in qualifying there was cars that were strong
37:48in different areas of the circuit.
37:50Particularly, I think, of Slater who was rapid in one, couldn't get it done
37:53elsewhere.
37:54And then Tapanen and the MP wasn't particularly quick in sector one,
37:57but was quicker later on in the lap.
37:59Really good stuff.
38:01Teofil Nile leading the way, though, for Campos Racing.
38:04A home race for them.
38:06They've taken four wins on home soil so far in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
38:13Three of those coming with Spanish drivers as well.
38:16They've got really good form when it comes to racing on home soil.
38:21When Teofil Nile, 7.4 seconds clear.
38:23That's not something we usually see in this championship,
38:26but we've got to fight Spanish driver Del Pino having to look in his mirrors behind this.
38:30DRS open for Giusti.
38:32It was until we went into turn four.
38:33He's in the entire Giusti looking to the inside, but not far enough back.
38:36You really need to be alongside before the braking zone to try and move through there.
38:39Very much single file.
38:40But now, look, once you try and make a move and it fails,
38:43then you sometimes fall backwards.
38:45There's now a defensive had to go Giusti because he's feeling the pressure from Rivera
38:48in the Red Bull number three right behind.
38:50As you mentioned, they don't know where the overtakes are going to come from.
38:53This is a learning experience for every single person around the paddock,
38:57and it's been really great to see the drivers pushing the limits out there in this sprint race.
39:03We will have the first feature race later,
39:05and this is a result that could make a big difference for Teofil Nile
39:08in getting on that championship podium as well.
39:10You can see live points to the bottom of the screen.
39:13Yeah, Rivera will know his teammate of Nile is up at the front of the field,
39:16scoring extra points, and Rivera and Nile fighting for third place in the championship.
39:21We're keeping an eye on Teofil Nile as we keep half an eye further back as well,
39:25but Nile has been absolutely dominant in this race.
39:27Pace has been electric, fastest lap, no surprise.
39:31Campos have looked good ever since they put four wheels on the circuit here
39:34in the mid-season test, and Nile coming out and will take another win.
39:38Teofil Nile, this will be his third race win in FIA Formula 3.
39:43Got on the top step at the podium for the first time at Barcelona,
39:46and now here at the Madrid, Teofil Nile takes his third win in Formula 3,
39:51giving the Spanish team Campos Racing a victory.
39:54They will remember for a very long time.
39:56James Wharton on the podium in second place,
39:59and Alex Powell in just his second weekend racing in Formula 3
40:03takes his first podium in Formula 3.
40:05Ugo Ugechukwu will take three points with the penalty going to De Ligny,
40:10and that will be a big improvement.
40:12You can see the live situation to the left of screen there.
40:16De Ligny dropping out of the points,
40:17and Ugo Ugechukwu will reduce the gap to Freddy Slater
40:21from 15 points to just 12 going into the first of two feature races later
40:26as Slater comes across the line in 18th.
40:28But Spanish team Campos Racing,
40:31they were never going to be beaten in this one, were they?
40:34Going into the Madrid here,
40:35they always wanted to be on the top step,
40:37and Teofil Nile brings them home with a win.
40:39I'm not surprised to see a Campos at the front of the field.

41:23It's left-right chicanes close to walls,
41:25street circuit, straight-line speed.
41:27So Campos have pretty much got all bases covered,
41:29and Teofil Nile, who's been so fast at times this season.

41:49He's had a tougher time this season, James Orson,
41:51but that's something he can celebrate.
41:53A third podium for him in Formula 3,
41:55but arguably the standout performance going to Alex Powell behind.
41:59Just his second weekend, and he goes and takes his first podium.
42:02He's looked very comfortable, hasn't he, Powell?
42:03A lot of drivers who join mid-season struggle to get up to speed.
42:07A reminder, these drivers in this championship
42:09are the best drivers of their age group pretty much in the world,
42:11and to jump in with less experience is hard to do,
42:15and Powell has probably been arguably the driver
42:18that's done the best having jumped in as a guest.
42:21And three points scored to Ugachuku.
42:24There is an extra point for the driver
42:26who gets the fastest lap in the top ten,
42:28but I imagine that went to Terville Nile,
42:30and no-one looked quicker than him out there,
42:31but Ugo Ugachuku.
42:34It is P8, so three points is the pocket.

43:07You're pretty much relying on the drivers ahead

43:09and you can see almost the body language of Slater

43:13That's not him relaxed.
43:15That's him, I think, a bit dejected,
43:16because he knows he has a very tall order indeed.
43:20He pretty much resigns himself to the fact
43:22that he's not going to score any, if many, points today at all
43:26because he goes from 17th once again for the feature later,
43:29and then he has to make positions tomorrow
43:31when Ugachuku goes right from the front of the field.
43:34Yeah.
43:35It will be damage limitation.
43:37Ugachuku can go and take the championship lead away
43:40from Slater today.
43:42The fight will go into the final race of the season tomorrow,
43:46but as I mentioned, he will score 12 points
43:49if he finishes in fourth place,
43:51but he could go and take the win.
43:53But let's focus on our winner for now,
43:55and that is Teofil Nile.
43:57Gets himself back up to P3 in the championship
44:00with that one.
44:01A third win for the French driver,
44:04a Macau Grand Prix winner,
44:05and now the first winner around this very technical Madring circuit,
44:11and Teofil Nile will really enjoy this one.
44:14Aprey Makar, either side of him in James Wharton and Alex Powell,
44:18but something to really celebrate here for Teofil Nile.
44:21He's in the fight for third in the championship,
44:23and now he leads it once again.

44:32and he'll know this will mean a huge amount
44:34to the Campos racing team as well.
44:37Teofil Nile, he's done a lot of driving here in Spain as well,
44:40in Spanish F4, where he had great success,
44:43so this is one that will mean a lot to him as well.
44:46Yeah, he's a driver that had such strong early race pace.
44:49He was an early season championship challenger,
44:51but then just fell away in the middle of the year
44:53due to lack of consistency, a couple of poor qualifying,
44:56but he's right back at it now,
44:58and we'll be hoping that this ignites his fight
45:01and consolidates him in third place in the championship
45:04because that will be a good way to end the season for him
45:06and give himself an opportunity at the best.
45:08Seats for Formula 2 next year,
45:10which I imagine where he's looking,
45:12and then also potentially even eyes towards Formula 1.
45:15Yeah, and Prima, they've had it tough at times this season,
45:18but that's something they can really celebrate,
45:20and I think they'll be incredibly impressed
45:23with what they've seen from Powell as well,
45:25driving his race in Euro Cup 3.
45:27Someone else who's done a lot of racing here in Spain,
45:30Teofil Niall, a former Spanish F4 champion,
45:33and now your winner here at the Madrid.

45:53He's looked so strong at times.
45:56I think on his good days, he's been almost unbeatable.
45:59I think if he can find some consistency over a season
46:01and make sure that the bad days aren't quite as bad
46:06and make sure that all qualifying sessions are strong,
46:07he would definitely have been a championship contender.

46:12Which is, I think, a good thing to see.
46:14He knows there's still that championship podium up for grabs,
46:17and he wants to be leading that fight going into the final two races.

46:30There are all eyes on this Formula 3 sprint race,
46:34the first ever race around the Madring circuit,
46:36and the Spanish team, Campos Racing,
46:39looking to wrap up the F3 team's title for a second consecutive year,
46:43and Teofil Niall giving them advantage in that fight
46:48as he goes and takes the very first victory here at the Madring.
46:54What a day for Teofil Niall in Campos,
46:57and we still have two more races to go.
46:59Second, third, and fourth they are in the Drivers' Championship
47:02and leading the team's championship as well,
47:05and, well, not our usual route to the podium,
47:07but Teofil Niall, a chance to chat to the team there.
47:11Yep, taking the ride over to the cool end room
47:14or the podium at the very least, waving to the crowd.
47:16Great to see a crowd in already, Chris, here at the Madring circuit
47:19early on in the morning, well before we've got the main event later on,
47:22but they'll be hoping, hopefully they've enjoyed what they've seen
47:25and they'll stick around for the feature later on as well.
47:28But an interesting thing, some drivers really like having fun,
47:32little extra stats, like the fact that Teofil Niall
47:34is the first driver ever to win on this circuit.
47:36A lot of drivers like that, Chris, so that they can, you know,
47:38when they look back on their career in 10, 15, 20 years' time
47:41when they retire, they can say to their children
47:44or their friends and family,
47:45oh, do you remember the Madring?
47:46It's the 20th anniversary this year.
47:47I was the first driver ever to win there.
47:49Yeah, first ever.
47:50Yeah, it's something very cool for Teofil Niall to celebrate.
47:54He's had a really good pace around this circuit,
47:57and as you mentioned, he's looked really good all season as well.
48:01Lots learned from that race as well,
48:03I think, for all the teams and the drivers as well.
48:05It was, for some, a real learning experience as well as a sprint race.
48:09Yeah, I think the main thing we've learned is that overtaking is tricky.

48:13It didn't, well, there wasn't really a huge amount, was there?
48:16Once it all settled down after the first lap,
48:17it was only really that DRS pass from Taito Kato,
48:20and then maybe a couple of moves right down the order from mistakes.
48:23But other than that, pretty tricky indeed.
48:25I think we'll see more as the weekend builds up,
48:28as the rubber goes down,
48:29as everyone gets more comfortable to push a bit harder,
48:31especially considering this is the first race of the weekend.
48:33I think everyone was a little bit risk-averse.
48:36And the start of the race,
48:37not many of the corners where they could go side by side,
48:39it kind of filtered out quite quickly.
48:41But they will look back.
48:42They will definitely look back on this race
48:45and look at the start and figure out who went where
48:47and who made positions and where they positioned themselves.
48:49And I think, yeah,
48:50we'll definitely see people pushing on harder
48:52and maybe more moves later on,
48:53as there's more points available later on as well.

53:43He's had huge success since then already.
53:46The Cal Grand Prix winner and now the first ever winner here at The Magic.
53:50And Campos Racing getting one step closer to winning back-to-back team's championships in Formula 3.
53:57They'll be very happy with what they've seen, not just from the result, but from the pace.
54:02Nine seconds clear from James Wharton finishing in second place.
54:06A return to the podium for him this season.

54:12Alex Powell gets his first ever podium in Formula 3.
54:16And with performances like that, I think that could be the first of many.
54:20And the first time since 2024, Piers, since we had two Prima cars on the podium together.
54:27So that's something they'll be very happy with.
54:29Yeah, the team that have had so much team success over the years of Formula 3.
54:33A bit of a slump in recent times, but a double podium here will give them some hope that they
54:38can rebuild
54:38and potentially challenge again next season.
54:40They're not going to be in the hunt for the team's titles this year, well down the order this time.
54:44But seeing the reds overalls on the podium this time and some more smiling faces in the camp in Prima.
54:50It'd be great to see them back up there, wouldn't it, Chris?

54:54But celebrations here in the sprint race.
54:57But now attention will quickly turn to the first of two feature races later.
55:02The first one at 6 o'clock this evening before the final race of the season tomorrow.
55:07That's where we could see big changes in terms of the points
55:10and indeed a change of the championship lead with Hugo Ugachuku starting from the second row of the grid.
55:18And he's just 12 points behind Freddie Slater, who will be down in P17 once again.

55:28Teofield Nile takes the win by just shy of nine seconds ahead of James Wharton.

55:59Slater dropped to position, finishing in 18th.

56:07It's been a difficult weekend so far for the Trident team and their driver, Freddie Slater.
