US releases footage of warships deployed amid Iran tensions
The US military on Friday (September 11) released video showing its warships conducting operations in the Middle East, as the conflict between Washington and Tehran continued. The footage, said to be filmed on Tuesday (September 8), showed the aircraft carrier USS George Washington underway and aircraft conducting flight operations from the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer. The US Navy said both vessels were operating in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility in support of regional maritime security and stability.
The video was released after US forces sank five Iranian oil tankers, one of the latest escalations in a war that began in February.
Separately, Iran said it had attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz in response to the tanker losses. Since the conflict began, 18 US service members have been killed and more than 800 wounded.
