00:00Central Division Commander Senior Superintendent Rudolf Bagwandine said police recorded a 43% detection rate for serious crimes.
00:07He made the disclosure during a media briefing at the Police Administration Building on Wednesday.
00:12The division recorded 25 homicides between January 1st and August 10th, compared with 43 during the same period last year.
00:20That is a 42% reduction.
00:22Four of the 25 homicides were solved, while police believed there was a strong likelihood of solving at least two
00:29others.
00:31Bagwandine said four killings were domestic-related, two resulted from altercations, five were drug-related, four were linked to revenge,
00:39and three occurred during robberies.
00:41The motive in seven cases remained unknown.

01:19Bagwandine said all categories of serious crime declined except home invasions.
01:24He said home invasions and house break-ins had posed a challenge during the first four months of the year,
01:30but there had been a decline from May.
01:32He attributed the decline in part to the arrest and prosecution of eight major alleged perpetrators and the deaths of
01:41six other alleged perpetrators during encounters with law enforcement.
01:45Some of those arrested were subsequently placed on preventative detention orders.
