'NAZA' documentary about Gaza civilian toll gets 25-minute ovation at Venice
The documentary "NAZA" about the civilian death toll in Gaza was received with a 25-minute standing ovation at its Venice Film Festival premiere on Thursday (September 10). Directed by Israeli journalists Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, "NAZA" takes its title from an Israeli military term for expected "collateral casualties" and is built around testimony from intelligence officers and soldiers involved in the war.
It includes descriptions of intelligence officers of an AI-assisted system that identified targets using data gathered from thousands of hacked mobile phones.
The film is one of 21 films competing for Venice's Golden Lion award, which will be presented on Saturday (September 12).
