00:00Amazon is being sued for firing pregnant workers who used unpaid time off to go to the doctor.
00:05Here's what's happening.
00:06Four women filed a class action saying they asked for the basics,
00:10a chair, water breaks, time for a doctor's appointment,
00:13and Amazon treated the time they needed as time they stole.
00:16You see, Amazon tracks warehouse workers by the minute with handheld scanners,
00:21time in the bathroom, the lactation room, or any time spent off task.
00:25So when these women went to the ER, sat through prenatal appointments,
00:28or stopped to pump, the suit says that time got subtracted from a small bank of unpaid time off.
00:34When it hit zero, they were fired.
00:36As of right now, these are just allegations not yet tested in court.
00:39And before the suit came down, in February the EEOC found reasonable cause
00:44to believe Amazon systematically violated the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act nationwide.
00:49Amazon says that's not the story.
00:52It approved more than 99.9% of pregnancy requests last year,
00:55calls the tracking standard for safety and efficiency,
00:58and says this lawsuit leaves out key facts.
