00:00Okay, so the poll of the day is now available on the B. Mitch and Finley account.
00:04And, Stallion, we were kind of framing the poll of the day this morning.
00:08And it's about the receivers, right?
00:11Yeah.
00:12Who do you think will be the leading receiver this weekend against Philadelphia?
00:17Stallion gave three options on the poll of the day.
00:19You can vote at B. Mitch and Finley.
00:21Terry McLaurin, Steph Diggs, Chigakonkwo, or other.
00:25Okay.
00:26Now, how are we determining this?
00:27Catches or yards?
00:28See, that's the thing about it.
00:30I don't know.
00:32I think yards are more impactful.
00:34Yeah, yeah.
00:34So, let's do yards.
00:35Do yards.
00:36All right.
00:36Because somebody can have three catches for 150.
00:39That means they got into the zone, baby.
00:41Right.
00:41Or you can have three catches for five yards.
00:43Yeah, yeah.
00:43That could be bad.
00:44All right.
00:46Yards is the barometer.
00:49Yards is the metric of choice.
00:50Gotcha.
00:51Who you got?
00:54I'm going to go with 17.
00:5717.
00:58One vote, Terry McLaurin for Brian Mitchell.
01:01Now, the Eagles defense is loaded.
01:04Okay.
01:05I'm just going to name some names here.
01:06Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter.
01:07We've talked a lot about them.
01:08I don't think Jonathan Grenard is playing.
01:11They say he was back at practice yesterday.
01:13Look that up for us, Staley.
01:14Man, I'm telling you, the kid, Jalix Hunt, can go.
01:18Okay.
01:19Jalix Hunt, big, strong, athletic, off the edge.
01:23Jihad Campbell is a player I liked a lot.
01:25I'm pretty sure he played at Bama.
01:25Obviously, Zach Vaughn has emerged as a monster in the middle for the Eagles since he got into that Fangio
01:35scheme.
01:36Jalix Hunt, though, is a guy I am curious.
01:39You know, Philly keeps losing these edge rushers because they get paid elsewhere.
01:43Yeah.
01:43Hunt last year in just nine starts had six and a half sacks.
01:48His rookie season, he didn't play a ton, had a sack and a half.
01:52Like, if you could buy stock in a player, I would buy some Jalix Hunt stock.
01:58Will you?
01:59All right.
01:59Dude could play.
02:006'3", 250, just small school guy.
02:03He was in the Ivy Leagues.
02:05He was playing at Cornell before he transferred to Houston Christian.
02:09I don't know much about Houston Christian.
02:12Why would you leave Cornell to go to Houston Christian?
02:13Maybe it was vice versa.
02:14Maybe it was at Houston Christian and then went to Cornell.
02:17Not a lot of players drafted out of the Ivy League in the third round.
02:20What's going on for Cornell?
02:21Wasn't he?
02:24He was doing a show.
02:25He used to be on ESPN, too.
02:28Cornell guy?
02:29Yeah.
02:30Brother.
02:31Oh, man.
02:32I can't think of his name right now.
02:35Marcellus Wiley?
02:36Columbia.
02:36Columbia.
02:37Same thing.
02:38Ivy League, yeah.
02:39And then the receiver plays with the Chiefs right now.
02:43He played with Jaron Gilson at UPenn.
02:46Okay.
02:46Do you know that the Commanders have an Ivy Leaguer?
02:49Who?
02:49You want to guess?
02:53Ivy Leaguer.
02:54Ivy Leaguer.
02:55The snapper.
02:56Yeah.
02:56I remember playing golf with him when he said it.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Harvard man.
03:01Looking at the Eagles' secondary, they're also really good.
03:05You've got Quinion Mitchell, Cooper DeGene.
03:08Now, they did lose Blankenship.
03:11Blankenship was, I always thought, an underrated piece of that defense.
03:15You now have Marcus Epps and Andrew Makuba.
03:19I hope I'm saying that right.
03:20They also signed Reek Wollin from Seattle.
03:23So, that secondary is really good.
03:26Do you think that opens things up possibly for Chick?
03:31Like, if the guys are on the outsides, if it's 17-3 on the outsides, maybe the middle of the
03:37field's a little more open?
03:38But, I don't think neither one of them will just blanket Terry by themselves.
03:46Terry has played well.
03:47When they were talking about Quinion that first year, he had help all over the place.
03:52So, if it's one-on-one, I'm going with 17.
03:56I mean, I'll pull up the splits against Philly in his career.
04:00Terry has played well in Philadelphia.
04:04In, how many games do we think Terry's played?
04:06In 14 games against the Eagles, he has 71 catches for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns.
04:13Wow.
04:14Sadly, in 14 games against the Eagles, a 5-9 record.
04:18Yeah.
04:19That's obviously not all on Terry, but he's averaging about 75 a pop against the Eagles.
04:24I'll go with him for the yards.
04:25B says, Terry McLaurin's the leading receiver this weekend, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
04:34Who do you think's going to be the leading wide receiver this weekend against the Eagles?
04:38McLaurin, Diggs, Okokwo, or somebody else?
04:42I think if we were doing catches, it might be Diggs, but I think Jaden's going to take his shots
04:47to McLaurin.
04:48Oh, yeah.
04:49And I think, like, early in camp, camp was almost like a tale of two cities.
04:54It was the best of times, then it was the worst of times.
04:56And when things were going well there early, Jaden and Terry looked pretty dialed.
05:02Yeah.
05:03And I think those two have such a history and know each other that well.
05:08I think Diggs is going to get a lot of looks, kind of soft, intermediate, find a soft spot, get
05:16open, elite hands.
05:18Sit down, give somebody somewhere to go.
05:22I think Terry could get loose.
05:24Yeah.
05:25And I don't think, like, I don't think between Wollin, Degene, and Quignon, like, they're not, nobody's, none of their
05:36corners are traveling with a receiver in this matchup.
05:39Do you?
05:39I don't think so.
05:40I'd be surprised by that.
05:42But I think it's either McLaurin or Diggs in this.
05:45I don't know that Okonkwo is going.
05:47How much do you think Diggs' arrival, a guy that we expect to be able to find kind of those
05:53soft spots, impacts Okonkwo's possible production?
05:57Because I do think there is some.
05:58I don't think it's going to impact it much.
06:00I think it may open it up more because after you start seeing him cook enough people, they're going to
06:06try to do the different little coverages to stop him.
06:09Jig will be one-on-one on most linebackers.
06:11And he should win those battles.
06:13800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
06:18B says Terry McLaurin.
06:20I think, I think I say Diggs, dude.
06:25Yards?
06:26You talking about?
06:26Yeah.
06:27I'm still going to go with Terry with the yards.
06:28I can see Terry.
06:29I'll go with Diggs with the amount of catches.
06:32Yeah.
06:32I can see Terry having a stat line of 4 for 92.
06:37And I can see Steph having a stat line of 7 for 75.
06:43All right.
06:45I think we've seen a lot of Blau, but I don't know.
06:53I am so excited just to watch this team play a game.
06:56I said this to Jackie Bradford last night.
06:58She's like, oh, are you excited for the season?
07:00And I'm like, absolutely.
07:02Because we've seen a lot of what they've shown, and they've probably installed a lot more in the couple weeks
07:09since.
07:10Yep.
07:12I cannot wait to see what it looks like.
07:14Good, bad, ugly, whatever it's going to be, I just want to see it and draw some real conclusions from
07:20real football.
07:21Rather than like the constant speculative guessing.
07:24You know what I'm saying?
07:25I'm with that.
07:26If you want to let us know what you think about the receivers this weekend in Philly, phone lines are
07:32open, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
07:37It was cool last night to meet a lot of our regular callers.
07:41Some of them we had met before.
07:42Our guy Zeke was there.
07:44Drew was there.
07:44And there's a dude, Joe, that comes to a lot of Commander's-themed events.
07:49You would definitely recognize him.
07:51I don't know.
07:51He might have left before you got there last night.
07:53But I know this dude.
07:56But last night I got to know him as Joe in Springfield.
07:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:59I know exactly what you're talking about.
08:00It's kind of fun when you put the name and the voice together, I guess.
08:06On the poll right now, which has been up 46 minutes, a bunch of votes, 37% say Terry McLaurin,
08:1439% say Steph Diggs, 22% say Chig, and then about 3% are voting for other.
08:21All right.
08:22If it isn't other, who do you think that could be?
08:24I think it would be a young buck.
08:25Williams?
08:26Yeah.
08:28I saw Williams playing some ping-pong yesterday.
08:33You can take him?
08:35Yeah.
08:36I am not in my peak ping-pong form that I once was, especially when we were in Bethesda, the
08:42old station that had the ping-pong table when I was playing a lot.
08:44I had some games, Stallion.
08:46But I don't know that I have that now.
08:50Jeff, I'm curious.
08:51Who do you think is going to be the leading receiver, dude?
08:54I think it's going to be Chigakonkou.
08:56Only because Jaden Love is tight end.
09:00And now he got someone, like Zach could run, he could catch, but now he got somebody younger that's going
09:04to get that yak too.
09:05It's going to be Chig this week.
09:08You think their trust is all the way there like Jaden had with Ertz?
09:12I don't know if it's there yet.
09:13No.
09:14I can't say it's there, but it will get there quickly.
09:17Yeah.
09:17I was going to say only time will tell, and we'll see Sunday.
09:21Remember David Blau kind of famously said, and whether he was being like dead on literally, but he said, I
09:29want to get Terry 10 targets a game.
09:30Yeah, 10 to 15, he said.
09:32Do you think Diggs' arrival impacts that?
09:35I think it was never that.
09:38It wanted people to think that, and they want people to believe that he's going to do that and start
09:42trying to game plan for that, and then he's going to have other people wide open.
09:45That's what I think it was.
09:47So, Diggs coming in, he's going to take some of them away because the dude knows how to get open.
09:54Diggs definitely knows how to get open.
09:56I think the 10 targets for Terry was always kind of like a conversation piece more than necessarily like a
10:03locked in stone, but I think the point there is like we know how good Terry is.
10:08We're going to – in his career, he's never had – maybe Gruden early on, but that was only a
10:15year where it was like we're going to feed him the ball.
10:17Yeah, yeah.
10:19And that's what I was saying.
10:20Like I was looking at the game last night, and they started like feeding the Hollins.
10:25He's not the number one guy.
10:26He's not the number two guy, and they were feeding him the ball.
10:28Well, you can feed your number one guy, damn sure.
10:33You got to get the ball to Terry.
10:35You got to get the ball to Steph.
10:36I think Steph will get a lot of looks just because of his – his footwork like is so quick,
10:46and then his hands are –
10:48Steph can be in that video I saw earlier, but all those dudes.
10:51Yeah.
10:51I'm telling you.
10:52He's that kind of dude, and I think the impact we're just now – like we don't know what it's
10:59going to look like, obviously.
11:01I had a guy last night ask me if I was concerned about Diggs' knee.
11:05I was like, man, that was two years ago, and he played every game in New England.
11:08Like, no, I'm not.
11:09Are you?
11:11See, bro, that – I really, really have an issue with people who always look for the negative of something.
11:17You know what I mean?
11:19Like, everything's going well.
11:20You worry about his knee?
11:22His knee hasn't been discussed in two years.
11:23Why are you talking about his knee?
11:26People like that just annoy the hell out of me.
11:29You think if there's one receiver that really benefits from the Diggs-Terry combination, you think it's Williams?
11:40Yeah, definitely, because not only are he – people are not going to be focusing on him.
11:44They're going to be thinking one guy can check him.
11:47But he's with two guys who don't have a problem educating him.
11:51Normally you get these receivers who don't want to help nobody.
11:54He has two guys that's willing to help him.
11:57Diggs spoke yesterday at length, and whatever his reputation was previously, he couldn't be more different from that.
12:07Like, he is polished and, like, polite, answers every question.
12:13You know what was crazy with Diggs yesterday?
12:16Mm-hmm.
12:17He talked a bunch about his ability to, you know, kind of get with new quarterbacks, figure it out fast,
12:24and he referenced two people specifically.
12:26Who?
12:27Norv Turner and Kirk Cousins.
12:30Wow.
12:30He said, when I got to Minnesota, Norv was our coordinator, and Norv was old school.
12:35And he very clearly all the time told me, get to the right spot.
12:40Get to the right spot, and the ball will be there.
12:42And then he had Kirk as the quarterback, and Kirk was like, I'll make sure the ball's there.
12:46You get to that spot.
12:47There you go.
12:48And he said he learned so much from Norv and from Kirk early in his career that truly benefited him
12:56for the rest of his career.
12:58And if you think about, like, where he's gone, I had some Yahoo on Twitter say, yeah, Steph's never had
13:07a good quarterback, though.
13:08Kirk in Minnesota was good.
13:10Check the tape.
13:11He also played with Josh Allen.
13:13He had a 1,500-yard season with Josh Allen.
13:16We're just going to ignore that, like, Diggs had that.
13:18Not to mention, Drake May last year was damn good.
13:21Yeah.
13:21So maybe there's a correlation that Diggs helped some of these quarterbacks have great seasons.
13:26Yeah.
13:26He's also played with good quarterbacks.
13:28I think Jaden Fitzsett-
13:28If you give them an open man to throw to, that helps them out a lot, right?
13:31But I just found this great sense of, like, irony or just kind of the universe has, like, nothing is
13:42more powerful than the will of the universe.
13:44It does what it wants with people.
13:46And for Steph Diggs to be standing in the commander's locker room, he's been here about a month.
13:53What day did he sign?
13:56Diggs?
13:56Yeah.
13:57I don't remember the exact day.
13:58Has he even been here a month?
14:00August 8th, 9th?
14:02It's about a month, one way or another.
14:03September 10th.
14:04Like, for him to be wearing burgundy and gold, you have this local kid, good counsel, Montgomery County native, goes
14:12to the University of Maryland, has this NFL adventure all over the country.
14:15Minnesota, Buffalo, New England, Houston.
14:19Finally lands in D.C. in his hometown team, and then he's talking about Norv Turner and Kirk Cousins.
14:24It just felt like one of these incredibly bizarre, full-circle life moments.
14:29And, honestly, Steph's young enough, he might not even really remember that Norv was the head coach here for so
14:37long.
14:37He obviously remembers Kirk played here.
14:40But, like, not even just Norv.
14:42Like, Scott was the O.C. here three years ago, four years ago.
14:47Just a crazy, full-circle life moment.
