00:03When we think of sugar, we think of an object, an object.
00:08But today it is much more than the material that we have in our bottles.
00:15It is used in transport, in edilizia, in acustis and even in the aerospace industry.
00:22If there is an company in the world that has been able to transform one of the most ancient resources
00:27of Europe
00:27in a material high-tech, it is Amorim in Portogallo.
00:31It is also the story that I tell you this week on Made in Europe.
00:48The day of work begins in the afternoon in the sugheret of the company Cortiseira Amorim.
00:54Here we are in the middle of Rio Frio, the south-east of Lisbon.
00:58The Portogallo is the first world producer of sughero.
01:02It provides about half of the global production.
01:06Amorim is the biggest company in the world in transformation of this resource.
01:10The collection, from the end of May to August, is still in large part in hand.
01:16Each person can, with the size of the trees, can make between 25, 30, 40 trees.
01:24What are the dangers in this operation?
01:27It is to try not to cut the inside of the tree, the tree.
01:31Try not to touch the tree so that there is no pain.
01:51How old is a tree like this and how many times it can be harvested?
01:56Well, in this particular case perhaps 100 years.
02:02But in average, a tree can produce for 170 years, 200 years.
02:08More or less, it gives us 15 to 17 extractions.
02:34With our society that is always looking for fast income and results in one or two years,
02:44it's difficult to have the same approach to manage corco forests.
02:50So what we are trying to do in Amorim
02:53is to show to other landowners with our initiatives in our forests
03:00that it is possible to do in different ways
03:03and to have a good income managing the corco forests.
03:38Orte come?
03:39To get a natural stopper, which is our premium product,
03:43you must have thickness enough to punch the board directly
03:48and to get a single piece of cork.
03:50So, in this particular case, it might look like we can use it for natural stoppers.
03:56But, here, you don't have thickness enough.
04:01Every time that we have defects associated,
04:06there will be mostly grinded and granulated.
04:38presente in oltre 100 paesi
05:02puoi vedere diverse tecnologie,
05:04con la pressa di doppia,
05:06l'agglomerazione,
05:08anche con i cork stoppers
05:10con i diversi materiali reali,
05:12come i rubri,
05:12come i poliuritani.
05:15Oggi il sughero trova applicazione in oltre 30 settori,
05:19dall'edilizia e l'isolamento
05:20alle guarnizioni industriali.
05:28Nello showroom questi materiali e i tech
05:30si possono toccare con mano.
05:33Questo è una rappresentazione del P50,
05:36uno dei nostri materiali più conosciuti,
05:38che è essenzialmente un composto di cork,
05:41un shielde di protezione di termo
05:43che è usato in molti stagioni
05:46del dispositivo di lanciare.
05:49Quando c'è una necessità
05:51di protezione del calcio.
05:54Puoi sentire che è molto, molto compato.
05:57E perché è cork il migliore materiale?
06:01Si muove senza perdere la massa,
06:03si absorbe il calcio
06:04e si protegge il calcio
06:05da venire nella struttura.
06:10Cortisera, Amorim dice di aver investito
06:12oltre 90 milioni di euro
06:14in ricerca e sviluppo negli ultimi dieci anni.
06:16Un approccio high-tech
06:18che ha trasformato anche il suo business principale,
06:21i tappi di sughero.
06:22L'azienda dice di aver sconfitto da anni
06:25il TCA, il composto responsabile
06:28del cosiddetto sentore di tappo
06:30che può alterare il vino.
06:53Oltre 150 anni di storia,
06:55quest'azienda familiare,
06:57diventata globale,
06:58deve fare i conti con la diffusione
07:00dei materiali sintetici
07:08nel negozio,
07:09ti senti la responsabilità
07:11per ciò che sta avanti
07:13in quanto riguarda il futuro
07:14di questo negozio
07:16dove, in qualche modo,
07:18il tuo nome
07:19coincide con il prodotto
07:21il suo stesso.
07:22Cork è continuato a essere
07:24un materiale fantastico
07:26un materiale che ha
07:28un enorme potenziale.
07:29Portugale non è il nostro mercato.
07:31L'Europa non è il nostro mercato.
07:33Il mondo è il nostro mercato.
07:36Per il Portogallo
07:38il sughero è più che un business.
07:40È parte del patrimonio naturale
07:42e culturale del paese.
07:44Aprire nuovi mercati
07:46significa anche dare a queste foreste
07:48un futuro.
