00:00The deal is done. He is signed, and that is great news for everybody who is a fan of Christian
00:07Gonzalez and the New England Patriots. When this happens, you have the reaction, I'm sure many or
00:11most people did, and that is, whew, glad that's over. And that was my reaction. My first reaction
00:17is, whew, good, get that out of the way. That thing's done, and the player is paid, and he's
00:22happy enough to sign his deal, and it's in the rear view. It's in the rear view, but you can't
00:26spend the amount of time that we have spent talking about this contract and not ask the
00:32question, as soon as it's done, who won? Who won that thing? And my favorite website, and
00:40the website I read more than any other for football news in the NFL, is Pro Football Talk. It's
00:45probably where I get 90% of my NFL news. That's the site I use. I don't go to really
00:51very many
00:52other sites when it comes to league-related matters, but I read everything that pops up
00:56on Pro Football Talk. And the start of the story on Christian Gonzalez and his contract
01:02details, I absolutely despise. Because it reads as this, the Patriots and cornerback Christian
01:11Gonzalez played beat the clock, and they both won. Well, wait a second. No, no, that, no.
01:19No. Not everybody can win. That's not allowed. No two gold medals. Now, those people are going
01:24to say that. Gonzalez and the team are going to say, we're happy. He's happy. Kumbaya football
01:30season. I get that. They're allowed to say that. Not us on the outside. We have to pick
01:34winners and losers. That's our job. You've got to pick winners and losers. I wish you told
01:39me this last night. I saw Florio last night with McCourty and Jason Garrett in the crew.
01:44Tell him tonight. No, Mike. You need to pick winners and losers.
01:47I'll see him pregame. I'll tell him you said that. Tell him. I'll email him myself if you'd
01:53like. You've got to pick winners and losers in this. And I'm sure they've talked about
01:57it at length on their show. But he wrote, Gonzalez got his new deal, and the Patriots
02:03avoided the possibility of a Gonzalez injury. He puts that in quotes. That would have kept
02:09him out of week one against the Seahawks. The agreement makes Gonzalez the highest paid
02:15cornerback in terms of new money average. And that eclipses what Witherspoon's record
02:20was just a month ago when he signed his. He then goes into all the details, which I'm
02:25sure you guys covered yesterday. So I don't need to do it again. But if I'm picking a winner
02:29and a loser on this, I'm going to say that the Patriots won. I think the Pats won. And I
02:38think
02:38Christian Gonzalez didn't get everything that he was seeking. If we're picking winners and
02:44losers, the Pats won the deal.
