00:00I love the business of football, and, you know, I love scrutinizing ownership.
00:05I think it's important.
00:06I enjoy doing it.
00:09I think it's needed.
00:13So these stories are kind of just right up my alley.
00:16And the whole – I also like the media game and the source wars
00:23and where guys are coming from on their reporting,
00:25and, you know, a pretty good beat on that, I think.
00:28Having been on that beat, you know, a while ago,
00:32but just understanding how the sausage is made.
00:34So, like, I'm into the whole thing.
00:36And it feels to me like we got a couple different, you know,
00:40differences of opinion here in the aftermath of the contract.
00:42That's Burt Breer, who's sourced up and is as good of a national football reporter as there is.
00:49Says it felt like a win for the player that the Patriots moved.
00:53The Patriots moved on X, Y, and Z.
00:56They moved on total guarantees.
00:57They moved on APY.
00:59They moved on per-game roster bonuses, which I'll circle back to.
01:03And then there's, on the other side, Tommy Curran.
01:06I was on TV with last night, and Tommy Curran said the Patriots barely budged,
01:10barely moved from what they offered him weeks ago.
01:13And it was just all up to Christian Gonzalez to finally turn around and take the contract.
01:16Maybe they moved just a smidge to give him a good APY number.
01:20But other than that, what he signed has been on the table for weeks,
01:24and the Patriots never really moved.
01:26And I will say, Tommy Curran's reporting on this has been closer to the bone than pretty much anyone else.
01:32So I'll defer to Tom on that, I suppose.
01:36Not I suppose.
01:37I mean, I just, the track record is,
01:38his reporting, I think, has been the closest to what actually ended up happening.
01:42Even, you know, more so than guys like Adam Schefter, which is quite the thing.
01:46You know, to have it, and to have it closer to the bone than a guy like Adam Schefter is
01:51some good reporting by Tommy Curran.
01:53So, I'll take him at his word.
01:55So, you know, who won?
01:56Who won the negotiation?
01:59Gonzalez or the team?
02:00I think it's the team.
02:02But then there's also a difference in saying,
02:05who won the negotiation and who won the contract?
02:08Like, the negotiation would imply,
02:10well, who moved the most on the last day to get the deal done?
02:15Who blinked?
02:17I think it was the player.
02:19Okay.
02:20So why?
02:20That feels like it was Gonzalez.
02:22Yeah.
02:23But Bert would tell you that the team moved X, Y, and Z.
02:26And there's other guys.
02:27And Schefter and Florio says that Gonzalez was going to hold out of this game.
