00:02Canada's retaliatory tariffs on $27.6 billion worth of U.S. goods took effect Tuesday after
00:09trade talks between Washington and Ottawa collapsed last month, according to CNBC.
00:14The duties range from 15% to 50% and cover dairy, agricultural equipment, paper, appliances,
00:22electronics, furniture, and clothing.
00:25Tariffs on U.S. steel, aluminum, and iron doubled to 50% with furniture, motorbikes,
00:33clothing, and some beauty products also facing the highest rate.
00:37Canada said the tariffs were a dollar-for-dollar response to U.S. levies and would help Canadian
00:42businesses compete with U.S. products domestically.
00:45Existing counter-tariffs, including a 25% levy on autos, remain in place.
00:50Economists said the affected goods represent a small share of overall trade.
00:54But small and medium-sized businesses and heavily exposed sectors could face a severe blow.
