A tragic incident at Miami International Airport has left five people dead and five others injured after an Amazon cargo plane reportedly overran the runway while attempting to land Sunday afternoon.
The Boeing 767-300, operating as Prime Air Flight 7598 and flown by 21 Air, struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway and eventually caught fire. Firefighters faced heavy flames, thick smoke and an active fuel leak as they worked to control the scene.
Three injured victims were taken to a trauma center in critical condition, while two others were transported to a local hospital. Rescue crews also worked to free people trapped inside vehicles and locate the aircraft’s pilots and co-pilots.
More than 60 emergency units and around 200 personnel responded to the crash. Miami International temporarily implemented a ground stop, causing significant travel disruptions.
Authorities, including the FAA and NTSB, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Amazon and Boeing have expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
