🇺🇸✈️ Five killed after Boeing 767 overruns runway at Miami airport
September 6, 2026 — Miami, Florida. A Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft operated by 21 Air for Amazon Prime Air overran the runway at Miami International Airport after landing from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The aircraft continued about 1,300 feet beyond the runway, crossed the airport perimeter and struck vehicles, including a van carrying workers from an aircraft-cleaning company. Five people were killed and five others injured. The two pilots survived.
The crash temporarily halted airport operations and triggered a major emergency response. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the accident. Preliminary findings indicate an unstable approach, while investigators are examining weather, aircraft performance and crew decisions.
The tragedy has also renewed attention on EMAS, or Engineered Materials Arresting Systems, which can help stop aircraft that overrun a runway. Miami International Airport does not currently have such a system.
