00:04So today is a really special day here at Elephant Odyssey. It's the one-year anniversary of the
00:09arrival of our female African elephant, Mila. She arrived one year ago today from New Zealand. So
00:14we're here to celebrate it by giving her special treats and some time alone on exhibit to enjoy
00:19those and not have to share them. Mila Trunk. We did a training session with her and afterwards
00:25she got whole pineapple which was one of her favorite treats when she came and we continue
00:30to try to give that to her. So she had whole pineapple to chew and suck on. She closed her
00:34eyes, kind of frozen position, was sucking on the pineapples and kind of getting every
00:39last drop. We don't think a drop of pineapple juice spilled out of her mouth actually so
00:42that's how much she liked it. And then we let her out onto exhibit by herself to enjoy
00:47a giant banana log and some Bird of Paradise flowers. She didn't move from that location
00:55for a while as she slowly picked the flowers out of the dirt and ate them and then ripped
00:59the banana log up and chewed it and wrapped it all up and savored every bite of it. We
01:06think she's doing really well. She still has a very close bond with the first elephant that
01:11she was introduced to, our Asian elephant Mary. And you can often see them standing at feeders
01:16together and Mary letting her eat out of the feeder next to her sharing hay.
01:23Today we're celebrating a milestone in what was a very long process of getting here to
01:28have her live the rest of her life with other elephants. It's been really worthwhile and very
01:33gratifying not only for the keepers to watch Mila's development but hopefully for all the
01:38people in New Zealand who put so much effort into getting her here.
01:46Thank you so much for joining us today.
