00:00First, let's head over to the local dollar store and pick up some foam board.
00:05First, print off a large number and cut it out and place it on your foam board.
00:10If you have a curved number like a 3, make sure to hang your number a bit off
00:16the bottom so that you will have a flat bottom for your number so it will stand
00:21nicely. Next, use your X-Acto knife to cut it out. Now it's time to lightly sand
00:28the edges. Next up, we're going to create the sides. I made mine a depth of two and
00:35three-quarter inches. Simply measure and mark on your foam board then cut with an
00:40X-Acto knife. Now we're going to make the strips and curve them around the
00:45outside of the number. First, we're going to start with the outside of the three by
00:50cutting these into what will be the inner side of the foam board. This is going to
00:57allow it to fold in on itself. Keep working around the number and leave
01:02flat spots where necessary. Now it's time to glue it on. Place the side on the
01:09outside of the flat part of the number and hold closely. Then run glue so that it
01:16runs down the wall and pools on the base. Then hold firmly until it dries. This is a
01:23tedious process and requires lots of glue to hold the pieces in place. Now it's
01:29time to fill it with flowers. My daughter loves blue and white so I got a variety of
01:34dollar store flowers in those colors. Lay out the biggest flowers first and then
01:40fill in with smaller flowers. Glue them all into place with hot glue. Look how
01:45pretty they turned out! All you need to do now is set a beautiful table with matching
01:51colors and you are all set for a pretty birthday celebration. At my local craft
01:56store I picked up one of these monograms. My sister really likes light colors so I
02:00chose some of these really pretty light pink roses and these really pretty
02:04cream roses. And by pulling up all of this greenery we're not gonna have to work
02:07in any additional foliage because all of these roses have a few leaves each which
02:11is going to hide any of the foam from showing through. After pulling up your
02:15flowers we're going to take our stems and cut them about three to four inches long. And once you've
02:21cut your stem we're going to take the end of it and just give it a slight bend and
02:25that way we can apply hot glue. We're gonna start with the pink roses and add
02:28some hot glue to the end and all we're going to do is just take that flower and
02:34place it in the letter. And what you see me doing is I'm just kind of staggering the
02:38flowers. We have both this beautiful blush pink and the white to work in and I
02:42want them to be somewhat evenly dispersed so that we have the colors all
02:46throughout. One thing with the letters is we want to make sure we don't lose the
02:49shape. Some letters are easier than others. I think the letter O would be the
02:53easiest because there's nothing that you can kind of lose within the shape. We're
02:58going to adjust these a little bit and fill in as needed to get the shape
03:01perfect. And here is how it turned out you guys. I absolutely love it. It was
03:05really inexpensive to do. Costs less than ten bucks to create. And the perk of
03:09this is that you can do it in any color combo. You can do this for seasons, you can do
03:14this for holidays, you can do it with your name, a friend's name, a teacher's
03:18name, you name it. Grab your old pool noodle or you can pick up one at the
03:22dollar store and we're going to make something fun with it. If you do not have
03:27super long zip ties, I just put two of mine together because I needed mine to be
03:31a little bit longer. And we're going to fold the pool noodle in half and then
03:35we're going to put a wine glass at the center of it. And this part is really great. If
03:41you can get four hands, it's so much easier and so much better because you
03:47really need to hold that pool noodle tight. And then I used a serrated bread
03:52knife to cut off that excess on the end. Again, this doesn't have to look perfect.
03:57It's all going to be covered. Now it's time to get creative and have fun. You can
04:01do all kinds of colors. You can do it in any style you want. You can use any flowers
04:07you want. I found it easiest if I use the top of a pen that was near me. So
04:12that's what I had to stab the pool noodle first and then I inserted the stem. It
04:18worked so much easier. You want to make sure you go all along the side as well.
04:23You're trying to cover up your pool noodle. So for my wine glasses, I decided to
04:29put a piece of tissue paper inside the wine glass first and that helped cover up
04:35some of that green pool noodle that you could still see through the wine glass.
04:39And then I just added three little cotton balls that I bred apart and they kind of
04:44made pillows. And then I added my tea lights to the top of those. I love the way
04:50this turned out. Like I said, you could use this for so many different occasions, but
04:56think anniversaries, birthdays, graduation parties, bridal showers, so many ways to use
05:02this. And you could customize it in so many different ways. We're going to start
05:06with one of these wooden rounds. And I also picked up a little piece of styrofoam.
05:11All I'm going to do is I'm going to take my stems and pull all of these branches all the
05:14way up to the surface. After we do that, we're going to take our wire snips and we're
05:18going to cut about half an inch worth of stem. Since this wooden block can be used for
05:22any season and any holiday, I actually don't want to secure anything to this. So we're going
05:26to just rest our styrofoam block right on the surface. And then we can begin taking our
05:30branches and poking them in. No hot glue is required for this project. Of course, if you
05:35feel like using hot glue, by all means. Now it's time for some fall foliage. I love the
05:40creams and it matches our kitchen beautifully. So I'm going to use some of these. We're going
05:43to just snip these down. Now we're going to take some of these and poke them right in
05:48just as we did with the greenery. Now that we've worked in some of our fall foliage and
05:51our eucalyptus, it is time for our finishing touch, which is going to be a candle. So I'm going
05:56to just place that on top and we still can see a little bit of foam. So I did save
06:00a few extra pieces that we can just work in and cover up any of the foam. And just
06:05taking the lid off of this candle, this candle smells great. So I'm really excited to light
06:08this and have something beautiful. So of course, you want to make sure, I do want to mention
06:13that you're not leaving this candle lit unattended. And you can also be using artificial candles.
06:19That way you're not going to burn your house down. Let's stand back and give you the full reveal.
06:24And here's how it looks, you guys. And I absolutely love it in my kitchen. All we used was a
06:28wooden plank with the bark edge, a little brick of styrofoam and some greenery. Absolutely love
06:33how it looks. And it definitely spruced up a candle. Do you have random faux flowers around
06:38your house that don't seem to go together? Start by organizing them by color and type of flower.
06:46Fill the bottom of the planter with floral foam stacked vertically next to each other.
06:51Tuck them in tightly and fill as much of the planter as possible. Once the foam is snug in
06:59the planter, take wooden floral picks and press them into the floral foam with about an inch sticking
07:06out. Use three to five picks for each foam block. Now take more floral foam or styrofoam blocks and press
07:17them on top of the floral picks so the block is secure and doesn't move. Next, create four to five
07:25bows from ribbon and floral wire. Make three loops with the ribbon and twist the floral ribbon around
07:33the bottom of the three loops. Take a wood floral pick, wrap some floral wire around it and attach it
07:41to
07:41the bottom of the ribbon bow. Once all the wire is secure, stick the wood pick into the side of
07:48a foam
07:48block in the planter. Now let's add the flowers. Think in terms of color blocking so that similar flowers
07:57are placed in the planter together. Start with tall flowers in the back and then add shorter flowers in a
08:04contrasting color in front of them. Go bold with a bunch of faux flowers in a bright contrasting color
08:10and tuck them low and in front of the other flowers. Fill in empty spaces with faux greenery.
08:18I hope this inspired you to create a bold and beautiful DIY faux flower arrangement using random
08:26flowers from around your house. Thanks for watching Home Talk! See you next time!
