00:00The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has now surpassed the grim milestone of 3,000 deaths.
00:07As the crisis deepens, the WHO is stepping up its response,
00:11coordinating and funding the expansion of the Litia Treatment Centre in Itiru province.
00:17The upgrade will add more beds, improve hygiene facilities and expand critical treatment capacity.
00:26With regards to capacity, the old treatment centre had only 33 beds,
00:31whilst the new one, which is currently under construction with work 90% complete,
00:36will have 42 beds, including 18 for suspected cases.
00:40And it should be noted that there will also be four beds for suspected cases in critical condition.
00:46The DRC is facing its deadliest Ebola outbreak ever.
00:50The epidemic has devastated the conflict hit east and northeast,
00:54infecting 6,186 people and claiming 3,007 lives.
