03:38так early and I think what we've seen a lot of is drivers have a smaller moment on the entry
03:43and
03:44then back that up with bigger moments on power as you go through through the corner but as soon as
03:49he turned in there and had already kind of lost the rear he was a passenger for the rest of
03:52the
03:52corner. Disappointment for Franco Colapinto six Grand Prix scored in this season including the
03:57last two in a row and he's out qualified Gasly his teammate at the last three Grand Prix but
04:02on the back foot a touch after that incident 35 seconds to go till the resumption of this FP2
04:17session Franco Colapinto is back in the garage and looking at the data after this and I suppose if
04:24you wanted at warning signs and some telegraph signals all the way through turn 12 turn 13 he
04:31was struggling it was like driving on ice for the young Argentine and by the time the tyres went
04:37nope no grip left he was a bit of a passenger there. Absolutely for the other drivers watching as well
04:42they would have all seen that you're all thinking I can't see he did anything wrong there so it means
04:47it can happen to anybody and that's it's quite unnerving you know when the wind's up like it is
04:52today you're pushing on and that one single lap he had done two personal bests and you you very much
04:59know it can happen to you. Ouchie as they would say Ted down to you. Thank you very much down
05:05at McLaren
05:06who currently showing the way and uh you remember Tom Stallard said uh the new rear wing is working
05:12well yes well it's off oh so uh as you as you said so rightly uh David in FP1 expect
05:18to see that maybe
05:19in Zandvo or Monza in the next few days but the next few races but uh the rest of the
05:24upgrade package
05:25the uh the rear wing end plates the floor particularly the front corner and the rear corner
05:30are working well but it's the floor that seems to be bringing the most downforce to this McLaren
05:35they're just they're still aero testing so just now that Mercedes engine you can hear in the back
05:40is uh that of Lando Norris's and they're just still spraying the aero paint all over that floor edge
05:46and uh the barge board that's the particular area it's the barge board and the entrance to the floor
05:52where we have these sort of claw claws or fingers as they call them an area by the way that's
05:58going to
05:58be uh somewhat cut down on next year in some of the aero changes but that's the big change on
06:04the
06:04McLaren and worked out very well um talking of things that are here and aren't here Crofty have you
06:09noticed anything looking into the Mercedes garage that's different about this weekend i haven't seen
06:13a toto wolf yeah that's because he doesn't have a toto wolf spot in that uh uh u-shape uh
06:19console
06:20of power that they normally have the central console of Mercedes does not fit in this hungaro ring
06:27garage so where's he gonna watch from there's a little bit of an area at the back where the uh
06:33vips
06:33normally have their viewing area on the left hand side the garage they've turned that into um uh toto's
06:39command post a toto totem exactly so well no there is a toto totem in the middle of the garage
06:45that's
06:45keeping the pit building up but they couldn't it's made of concrete they couldn't move that and it
06:50didn't fit with their central console that's why Mercedes don't have one uh and that's why Peter
06:55Bonington and uh Marcus Dudley are working from the sides of the garage rather than the middle console
07:00if you see any shots of the Mercedes garage later thank you Ted uh Zach Brown's not here this weekend
07:05either uh for uh McLaren he's racing cars at the uh the BRDC classic at Silverstone if you're heading
07:11down there you'll see Zach Brown in action hope the sun shines throughout the weekend right we are getting
07:18a really good bird's eye view from the uh onboard camera of Kimi Antonelli's second attempt at a flying
07:25lap here complete with g-forces and deployment and battery as well yeah it's great to see look at that
07:32but it's just the rear got away from me on the entry to six he couldn't quite hang on to
07:36it i thought he
07:36was going to he thought he was going to as well and around it when he was that was a
07:42great lap up until
07:43then he'd already taken obviously a lot of juice out of those new soft Pirelli tires because uh he had
07:49to
07:49abort that lap around that position on circuit last time around so yeah already uh would have been
07:56losing a lot of grip from the top but it's just so easily done today isn't it you you overstep
08:01the
08:01margins ever so slightly and it really is going to bite you comes back to that rear locking feeling that
08:08he was talking about though he kind of soon as he hit the brake pedal it's just the rear stepped
08:12out so uh
08:12yeah probably wants to wind that brake balance forwards which everyone's probably a bit scared to do
08:17just giving the amount of locking that's going on into turn turn one so uh yeah he's not going to
08:22be
08:22super happy with that but up until then the lap looked hooked up looked hooked up and i think it's
08:27similar to that charles lap where you kind of just want to be just a little bit under the limit
08:30around here just to get the most out of it seven fastest once again for liam lawson as we go
08:35trackside
08:36once more martin brundle
08:37uh indeed we're turned 12 now good little spot when they come out of 11 you can if they're on
08:45it
08:45you see a plume of dust um if they're doing a warm-up lap they're snaking along here trying to
08:53get a bit of tired temperature it's there's the industry has to be doing exactly that as they're
08:59preparing for a lab and uh here's the 50 meter board a brake marker board right in front of us
09:08you can
09:08see how late they are they closed the wings just at the beginning of this red and white curve you've
09:15got to wait for the aerodynamics to re-establish briefly and it's very very downhill for the braking
09:22zone we saw charlotte clear go skating off there uh earlier on before the red flag and there's a
09:29massive tailwind into here as well which must be making it pretty difficult what they also do
09:36on the apex of the corner and it's new for this year really is they're down shifting all the way
09:42in
09:42and then they downshift again right in the middle of the corner to keep the turbo spooled up to keep
09:51everything spinning around and um and and that gives them a good exit out of the corner it's highly
09:59unusual to hear somebody a racing driver still um shifting down in the middle of a corner normally
10:06you're your foot planted and ready to maximize the exit of the corner here comes charlotte clear
10:14winds close downhill carries tremendous speed through there just one lovely arc let's see what oscar
10:21piastri's got as well just one one arc of speed there for the ferrari and what a natural bowl this
10:29is the fans can see so much of the racetrack you can see them up on the hillside right at
10:35the back of
10:36the panic the ferris wheel uh there too and actually we just watched lewis hamilton come through here on
10:43a fast lap there we go and then just pan straight up tbas and we can see franco colopinto's car
10:50up on
10:51the hill there sort of almost on a plinth that's where they dumped it to get this session underway again
10:57so it's it's parked there it'll not obviously be going anywhere until the chequered flag in uh 18 19
11:04minutes or so so an awful lot going on in one straight braking zone and corner here
11:12and it just i think it paints the relentless nature of this track layout it's great i mean the cars
11:19are
11:19fantastic absolutely fantastic through here back to you love it thank you martin charles leclerc is the
11:25fastest man on track we're on board with him now by uh nearly four hundredths of a second from his
11:30teammate lewis hamilton who was nearly two tenths up through the first sector now did he over push did
11:38he over do it a little bit in that first sector he certainly lost time as the lap was going
11:42on
11:43marginal by the end of it but yeah you're right his first sector looks pretty mighty that's the thing
11:47there's a balancing act of how much life do you take out of the tire and i think sector one
11:52predominantly
11:53is that sort of braking zone into turn one and how confident are you to to break late which we're
11:58seeing a lot of drivers clearly not so confident to do so clearly lewis is happy in that car and
12:02picked up on a little mistake maybe at turn 13 as well so there's maybe some more lap time in
12:07there for him
12:08there's your track dominance hamilton's the white leclerc is the red so that braking zone and then the run
12:16from turn three through turn four is where lewis has the the major dominance over shell the rest of
12:22the lap part of the final corner pretty much belongs to the monagasque yeah that's uh that turn 13
12:28though i think is where lewis lost the the biggest chunk of time on that lap but um he's definitely
12:33mastered the braking into turn one and he feels comfortable there but it's so close and it's going
12:39to continue to be that close between the two ferrari drivers i believe this weekend can anybody else catch
12:46still waiting to see what uh what mercedes can really do uh i don't think we're going to see
12:52that now in this free practice two session but uh yeah norris got himself up there he's very quick
12:59around this circuit as we know piastri as well i'm not sure what happened on on his best lap down
13:04in p8
13:05right now but we know he can be very fast on this circuit so yeah they're going to chip away
13:10at it work
13:11on the car balance overnight like they always do on the simulators back at base and come with maybe
13:17quite a different setup and balance for tomorrow and hopefully for all of their sake the wind dies
13:22down as well i haven't actually seen the oh keep the wind keep the wind was make it tough make
13:27it nice
13:28and tough we we want the wind uh samantanelli's had a couple of goes and we don't know what his
13:33time
13:34is because he's had to bail out uh on on both of them sadly for him valtteri bottas goes p17
13:42which is a a fine lap it has to be said from a man who qualified the top 10 here
13:48in 10 consecutive
13:49years here comes pierre gasly with his latest effort two personal bests and he comes into
13:56the corner where his teammate ran off the circuit he actually looked a little bit tentative into there
14:00but making making sure that the rear wasn't going to move around on him what's it going to be as
14:05he
14:05crosses the line p13 for pierre gasly not quite where he would want to be certainly not right ted
14:12kravitz wherever you wanted to well if you have a look at your country box you might see me i'm
14:17between
14:17the red bull garage and the ferrari garage and i'm kind of wondering oh somebody really splutters down
14:23towards the end that's got to be an audi that's got to be an audi they splutter don't they on
14:28the
14:28overruns the aldis down to the end of the pit lane oh team radio uh i think i hit debut
14:34on my
14:34front wing says max verstappen keep an eye on it i don't know what it was okay all right well
14:39it might have been something that made him quick because he is quick i'm carrying i'm currently looking
14:44at his uh his lap times on his long run and they are the same as norris's around the 24
14:49-0 mark so
14:51that seems to be uh quite good but hadjar has been stuck in the garage they've just finished a uh
14:57a
14:57set-up change and only now are they are they uh firing his car back up and i'm just you
15:02know it's
15:03difficult because hadjar has done so well in breaking the curse of the second red bull seat
15:08that they're now starting to rely on him as they always should do a red bull for good race information
15:14and it when they don't he's not out there getting good race long run information then i feel they're
15:19missing an opportunity slightly maybe that's something interesting to talk about having said that
15:23exactly the same thing is happening charlotte claire he's just sat in the garage not going
15:28anywhere on any long runs but he seems happy enough well his teammate lewis hamilton uh just
15:33did another run on the soft tire and has gone quickest with the 118.7 and max verstappen did hit
15:40some debris on the track and we can see what's left over of that debris right there on the the
15:46main
15:46straight so hamilton maybe's driving i'm obviously haven't seen the data straight away but maybe
15:54driving a different style of lap jamie because he absolutely aced the final sector this time around
16:00whereas previously it was where he started not where he finished yeah they just said max's front wings
16:06all good which is good to know after that debris hit yeah i mean that's the thing with this circuit
16:10is
16:11if you could put every optimal sector together and have that as your lap that would be the ideal but
16:15it's rarely ever like that and yeah but we've spoken about keeping the tires in the right operating
16:20window that's a big factor but also to be honest i think more than anywhere else it just looks so
16:26challenging to put the lap together just driving wise i think you're so often seeing green green
16:32yellow yellow green purple it's you're rarely ever seeing the sort of happy green green green or purple
16:37purple purple like we often often do other more conventional i say more conventional circuits
16:42more sort of circuits that seem to be easier for the drivers to to get the most out of it
16:46so i think
16:46that's maybe more a factor than than anything else but kimmy as well we just saw had a massive lock
16:52up
16:52and i think he's clearly struggling uh to find the happy medium and even put a whole lap together let
16:57alone uh a sector together uh so on board with isaac hadjar who's uh out there currently on the medium
17:06tire race sorry soft tire for isaac hadjar just literally just changed uh on our uh computer
17:12screen so this is a soft tire low fuel run is this a qualifying simulation and what were the setup
17:21changes and have they worked for isaac and i think that might be not the preparation lap needed because
17:26his tires are a bit cold i was going to say it's either this visor cam this it's changing the
17:32field of
17:32view making things look really slow or he is actually just going really slow and uh turns out he's the
17:37latter so he's on another prep lap so i wonder what this is all about for hajar and red paul
17:44there
17:45they're working on something here with with tire preparation i should imagine so uh let's keep an eye
17:50on what hajar does next lap around when hopefully he'll be pushing again holkenberg currently ninth
17:55fastest uh teammate gambriel and bortoletto is uh 11th fastest and as alan permain identified they could
18:03be the challenges to racing balls uh for a points finish uh this weekend bortoletto eighth place in
18:10the last two uh races don't forget he was sixth here uh last year as well career best result i
18:15think he
18:16quantified seventh uh on that day nico holkenberg still waiting for a point this season i just want to
18:22highlight these two perfect teammates tied at 5-5 in qualifying this season which makes it um
18:3217 17 because they were 12 12 in qualifying in 2025 you know one experienced driver uh one young pup
18:41full of energy uh the experienced driver helping the other and vice versa nothing to split them in
18:46qualifying no and i think when you well in fp1 we're speaking a little bit about the young drivers so
18:51many rookies doing doing fp1 and there sometimes needs to be space for for those drivers you then
18:57look at someone like nico and it's perfect for that team because they've got the perfect mix as you say
19:02of experience and youth um they've got the raw speed in gabby but i'm sure the experience of nico
19:07brings a lot and he's not you know lacking any performance or speed i think you compare that a
19:11little bit maybe to what we're saying it has with ollie bearman and ocon and yeah nico is is continuing
19:17to deliver i think that uh podium last year was what i think everyone wanted to see but now kind
19:22of continuing that form into this year and consistently being there as charleclerc puts in
19:27or goes for another another push lap on the soft tire yeah it looked like he was already pushing that
19:32that last lap already so that wasn't really a preparation that but he's still carrying on on
19:37this lap and uh so the clock is on him now um yeah so lewis managed to squeeze another lap
19:44out of those
19:44soft tires kept the life in them somehow let's see if leclerc can do the same thing as he heads
19:50up
19:50towards the end of the first sector no he's way down so this is looks like much more of a
19:55race run
19:56than what lewis was doing so a split uh program there down at ferrari charles was obviously happy with the
20:02car earlier on on the put on the one push lap yeah you can just see the way he's going
20:07through each
20:07corner he's kind of softer turn-ins the car looks a bit heavier and that's what how you have to
20:13drive
20:13when you've got a heavier car just give the thing a lot more time you can't harass it too much
20:19and
20:19hustle it through the corner so you're just letting it flow a lot more and hence the three and a
20:24half
20:24seconds down now this is pure race run territory he's in so i was looking at the sector times for
20:28isaac
20:29hadjar as well and that i think he is what he was doing although he has now just uh pitted
20:34um
20:37i wasn't expecting the soft tire necessarily to figure in race simulations uh here for the weekend
20:44but does it make sense with overtaking being quite tricky that you might want to run them if it's a
20:51two-stop race for for the opening stint here to at least give you you know some better better launch
20:57off the line exactly see how far you can go and also looking at how tricky it is for the
21:01drivers if
21:02there's safety cars anything that kind of short run on the on the soft tire is always going to be
21:06something to consider so it's today to get the data on it to get some mileage also we've got racing
21:10already uh audi and the racing balls
21:15oh no they're still going at it as well at least he's got the inside line for turn three yeah
21:20i mean i
21:20thought it was different but what they grasp practice
21:24so we let him go eventually that's interest so they didn't want they didn't want limblad to have
21:30dirty air basically so he's saying yeah you know i tried to keep him behind but he actually wanted to
21:35stay in front so you get cleaner data and cleaner airflow more importantly so uh yeah he said i
21:41didn't want to just squeeze him out i could have done if that was a race he would have done
21:45yes uh
21:46hence it being a very difficult track to overtake like you were saying property but so we've we've
21:51seen an overtake but in the racing situation linblad saying i definitely would have closed that would
21:57have edged him out onto further towards the grass lots of big quite so much room yeah in the races
22:03race
22:03going on there as well so alex albon ahead of voucher bottas ahead of sergio parents to hamilton out
22:09now on his medium tires where you've got the clear out on the soft tire and uh so yeah ferrari
22:14i think
22:15playing this pretty well here with eight and a half minutes to go they're going to have a good handle
22:18on what tire does what and how long they can push them into the race now jamie your time in
22:23the commentary
22:24box has come to an end thank you very much thank you uh you are requested in the paddock just
22:30to let you know
22:31where you're going and enjoy the stairs lift or uh or otherwise as we sit here at the top of
22:38the
22:39grandstand uh looking down uh onto a a pit lane uh where the sun is out but a pit straight
22:47uh where
22:48it is not very much in the shade ted kravitz i hope you've got your factor 50 on still though
22:54yes i have
22:55the pit lane's always been uh in the sun all day here obviously they've rebuilt the uh they rebuilt
23:01the pit building and that main grandstand by the way are those um good hot dog sales people still
23:07underneath your commentary boxes with the steak and the and the the lamb koftas wafting the kebab central
23:13burger central uh hot dogs as well but we are uh we're about three stories in between them now so
23:20we
23:20don't get the waft of the deep fat from it okay right unlike the uh the old days i remember
23:24that
23:24commentary box of course when i worked with marion martin uh in there many years ago right i just
23:29spotted a couple of things you would have seen fernando alonso's car without fernando alonso in it
23:34but with the guys ready to spray all the aero paint on it so that was just alonso taking a
23:39comfort break
23:40he got back into the car they have now sprayed uh the uh the aero paint of course they need
23:46to with all
23:46these upgrades they need to understand it and they've only got one car in the game at the moment
23:51but as he was going out the garage i noticed something on the rear suspension wishbones
23:55crofty i think they were temperature strips i can't say for sure but they were blue uh they
24:02were blue bits of tape and anthony those they are i'm pretty sure those temp you can get the the
24:10temperature strips that that show uh well they're temperature strips obviously they show how hot things
24:15are getting um they are blue at least the ones i've seen in the past so i just wonder whether
24:20that's
24:21something that aston martin needs to get some information from alonso's car on how hot those
24:26rear suspension wishbones were getting or are getting on alonso's car maybe to give them some
24:31more information in understanding stroll's failure yeah it's a good spot ted actually and those those
24:36strips are still used in former ones so you're absolutely right and they uh they not only measure
24:42the temperature they hold they show you the maximum temperature that reached okay so it stays it's
24:50not like when the car comes in it drops back down again um it has a memory so it just
24:54it reaches a
24:55certain tempo or the highest temperature and it it just sits there and records it and doesn't move
24:59which is a lot more useful a lot more useful yeah yes otherwise you bring the car back in and
25:05go oh
25:05look absolutely fine temperatures are 40 degrees and i also cool down the inside goes max verstappen
25:13on lewis hamilton now that was a lot more clean than a race here a few years ago where max
25:19ended up
25:19going over the wheel of lewis hamilton and kind of launching himself into the air for a few moments
25:25yeah so obviously a massive uh tire offset going on here lewis on his medium his old medium tires so
25:32i mean
25:32it goes to show it can be done we can see overtaking around this track it gives us hope but
25:38you'll need
25:39yeah i'd love to know that actually if you look at your tire graph you might be able to tell
25:43us crofty
25:44what the age gap is between them uh the age gap lewis you're gonna hate me for this lewis hamilton
25:50uh 11 laps max verstappen oh yes two laps so yeah lewis has done 11 laps over the course of
25:58two stints
25:58and max obviously on the fresher tires so that's the kind of all of this data all the teams are
26:04looking at it that's why i've got you to to check the screen as well five laps i've just i've
26:08just
26:08spotted a bit in between yeah okay so uh yeah those medium tires at lewis on so you've got a
26:14tire compound
26:14difference or temperature range difference and uh and also an age difference as well the time and that's
26:22what the team's be looking for if we're going to be vulnerable what kind of offset of tires do we
26:27need
26:28to actually make headway in the in the race on sunday and uh yeah it's you're going to be looking
26:33at maybe a second and a half difference between the car's pace to see any kind of chance but you
26:39get
26:39that here oh dear is there a gap michelle leclerc to go around the outside of the uh mercedes of
26:46george
26:46russell yeah he lets him go yeah let's him go and a two-stop race here you're going to get
26:52a few offset
26:53tire strategies differing tire strategies and then if someone decides they're going to pull a three
26:59stopper into that as well and uh you know chase people down in the closing stages then you get the
27:06excitement that way or if you're lando norris you decide look i'm out of position i'll go for the
27:11one-stop uh strategy here and i can make that a winning strategy as well but look how closely
27:16these new cars can follow each other oh charlotte claire actually well he's doing that because he's
27:22trying to get out of the dirty air yeah so he there's there's an invisible wake that comes off the
27:27car in front of you and he's trying to get out of that wake and hence going around the outside
27:32there
27:32cuts back inside you you don't want to spend any time more than necessary directly behind another
27:38one of these cars because you want fresh air going over your your wings not turbulent air and
27:44so i mean it would be amazing to see it wouldn't it yeah but we're not all adrian you we
27:49can't see
27:50so he can see it yeah uh true fact but so i wish because it would be absolutely fascinating because
27:57it would all make so much more sense like two boats following each other through the water that's
28:02what's going on behind these cars as they cut through the air so you want to get out of that
28:07dirty air that weight from the car and that's why he even resorted to putting the car on the inside
28:13curb in the last corner yeah you can't see it you can definitely feel it but these cars and everyone
28:20everybody has their view on the power units for this season but the car itself is actually brilliant
28:27yes it's smaller it's lighter it's narrower and they're more agile but more critically they can
28:34follow each other closer than last year a lot closer and that will potentially change the way we
28:42look at this track because i think it's caught some other teams out i think so far this year they
28:47think
28:48even if there's a significant tire offset we'll be fine the turbulence will take care of it they won't
28:53get close enough but look at this look how close you can follow if this was i don't know lap
28:5945 of
28:59the race and antonelli and uh piastri are really going for it and you can carry on following for a
29:05lot
29:05longer yeah bring that on uh sorry and norris i should say not piastri but but you know bring that
29:12on
29:12because that's what we want to see exactly as racing fans yeah you would not have seen this
29:16last year the cars able to follow us close it not any period of of the weekend because it would
29:22destroy the tires and destroy your your race quite frankly destroy your grip you just there was so much
29:27turbulence coming off the last year's cars that you you just i mean that was more of the gap that
29:32you'd see in drivers now i'm feeling dirty air so i'm hoping yes i'm hoping though that we don't start
29:37bolting on so much downforce that actually the three years time we we can't follow so closely
29:43oh there you go gravel down there have a load of that says kimmy internet and maybe that's why
29:48i think you are well did it hit his hands and sometimes it can hit your your fingers on the
29:54steering and it is absolutely excruciating talking about that yesterday lando actually in his press
29:59conference for the written media about how painful that that can be um and yes these stones you know
30:06they're not made of polystyrene they're proper hurt when they get flicked up so lewis hamilton with the
30:13fastest time here are we gonna see this year i wonder here at the hungara ring a formula one driver
30:20get
30:2110 poles at a single track that that is the the enticing bit for lewis hamilton the first driver to
30:29get 10 poles double figure pole positions at a single circuit and a single circuit that
30:37has exactly the same configuration or when did they change turn one uh yeah no
30:45lewis has always done this this configuration with the tighter term what yeah yeah i think i think
30:51you're right property it has yeah so uh exactly the same track so mate yeah it'll be an incredible
30:56achievement i you know what why not i think i think it could happen look at the speed that the
31:01cars have
31:02got here and obviously a track he knows and loves so well i wrote the records down uh so it's
31:09the record
31:09for most wins eight most poles nine most front row starts 11 most podium finishes 12 and he needs 13
31:17laps here to have led 500 laps around the hungara ring which is uh a phenomenal achievement it really is
31:26charlaclaire is a tenth and a half away though charlaclaire was quickest at fp1
31:30hamilton came out and did another lap to get that fastest time in
31:37so maybe just and maybe readjusted how he pushed on that lap as well because his first flying lap
31:43pushed really hard in the first sector and then didn't necessarily have the grip towards the end of
31:49the lap then left a little bit in hand i mean they've all got something in hand when you see
31:55somebody go
31:56faster on their second lap on on the single set of tires around this track of all places
32:01it's all about lap one it's only ever about lap one round here on a brand new set of soft
32:05tires so
32:06there's time in hand for all of them it ain't over yet but it bodes very well for ferrari i'd
32:13say they
32:13they look very strong uh well there's a big gap isn't there then to lando norris mclaren coming here is
32:18not just winners in the last two years but one two finishes in the last uh two years there's a
32:24gap
32:24of about two and a half tenths from charlaclaire down to lando norris max verstappen nearly seven
32:31tenths down on lewis hamilton fourth and george russell is the lead mercedes driver but
32:37kimmy antonelli twice went for a flying lap and on the first occasion got thwarted by a red flag on
32:44the
32:45second occasion overran the chicane and that was the end of that do you think that's an aston martin
32:50by the way it's it's not a new color scheme there's a lot of flowvis paint still on that car
32:54i'm going
32:54to say i'm sure they've missed a couple of square millimeters where they could have put some flowvis
32:59paint on that car what is happening there i mean when you've got 16 new parts to upgrade on a
33:05car
33:05you need to uh it looks like that sports car i was driving around silverton bright green i love the
33:11color i really did i've never seen that that's amazing some would have just slapped but what
33:18we're going to do over the summer shutdown with his flowvis paint oh no it's the end of its life
33:22get rid of it reorder it get rid of what we got use as much as you can unbelievable
33:29i'll be coating fernando's garage in that stuff later to be fair surprised he didn't they didn't
33:34spray his suit as well i had it right um let's have a look at oscar piastri's start of the
33:42grid as little
33:44wheel spin as possible he's got that lined up completely where you want the wheels on that yellow line
33:53and you do your clutch bite point fine let it rev to get the turbo spooled up
33:58the battery all the way to 100 or close to just at the right moment you drop the clutch around
34:05halfway
34:06and then let the rest of it go once you've got a couple of meters under your belt and so
34:10it looked
34:10pretty nice actually from from piastrian gotta say we were where's the talk about all of the ferraris
34:17small turbos off the line it it's disappeared everyone and this is what i love about formula one
34:23that relentless evolution of never taking enough for an answer you always want to progress yeah
34:31halfway through the season they've had half a season that develop and lewis hamilton for the
34:35second time in five fp2 sessions has the quickest time uh by uh just over or just under i should
34:41say
34:42a tenth and a half to charles de claire the ferraris the only cars lapping in the one minute 18s
34:47lando
34:48norris and max verstappen george russell complete the top five uh then isaac hadjar ahead of liam
34:53lawson oscar piastri niko hulkenberg in the top 10 in both sessions and arvid linblad both racing
34:59bulls in the top 10 in the two practice sessions two uh we lost franco colopinto with an accident at
35:06the final corner uh just uh ran out of grip fernando alonso p19 might not sound much but aston martin
35:13very much in uh in better contention uh with those around them kimmy antinelli didn't get a lap in
35:20on the soft tires for the low fuel so we'll come back tomorrow find out how good he can be
35:25and
35:26whether lewis hamilton can stay out in front
35:31he'll certainly be intending to he said he needed to step things up after spar and he's done just that
35:36a tenth and a half ahead of his teammate in the second hour of practice
35:41okay and i need to remind you as to the timings for the rest of the weekend and they are
35:45these
35:46the hogaro ring feels like some kind of oversized go-kart track coming here after the fast flowing
35:52circuit of spa francosham just from one week ago so let's take a look at this track in a bit
35:57more
35:58detail there's been a bit of gravity between red bull and racing bulls drivers go up from racing bulls
36:05they tend to fall back to and again a red bull you've defied that gravity what's been your secret
36:12um talent with six victories already this season a healthy championship points lead and a very fast
36:22mercedes underneath him kimmy antinelli is a strong favorite to become the formula one world champion
36:33so make sure you join us after this for the f1 show at 5 15 and then tomorrow the third
36:43and final
36:43practice session will be at 11 15 followed by qualifying for the hungarian grand prix at 2 15
36:51and then on sunday join us from 12 30 with all the build up to the grand prix which starts
36:57at two o'clock
37:02we've kept you busy today come back down from commentary to join me here in prayers it's a
37:06good to see you and a great session for ferrari just reflect on hamilton taking that step forward
37:12today that you so needed yeah i mean a great two sessions for ferrari uh charl up there obviously by
37:17a
37:17ginormous uh margin in fp1 and then both of them are sort of clear of the rest in fb2 and
37:23i think what
37:24that highlights is even when everything seems to be very challenging a lot of drivers getting it wrong here
37:28the wind is a big factor the sort of nuances of the new cars being tricky around this track
37:34they still seem to be out front and dominant which is kind of what maybe we expected um given the
37:39fact
37:39that their chassis seems to be so strong this year i mean lewis is used to making history but can
37:45you
37:45just imagine if he can get a tenth pole position at a circuit like this i mean it it it
37:52is a circuit for
37:53some reason he loves what what do you think it is what are the nuances about the hungara ring that
37:58suit him i mean it's an incredibly challenging track to drive and it requires well it requires
38:02everything to be you know dialed in the car needs to be great but also as a driver you have
38:07to be
38:07right up against the limit not over it not beneath it but also it's quite sensitive to the tyres and
38:12we've spoken a lot about that last sector keeping the tyres underneath you and lewis is very good at
38:16that he kind of has that sort of raw feel and the feel in the seat of his pants that
38:20requires um or
38:21is required around here to get the most out of it so there's the fact that he loves this track
38:25there's
38:25the fact that he goes well here this is the last place he had pole position i think it was
38:29you that
38:29mentioned um a long time ago and so you kind of combine that with the fact the car seems to
38:33be working
38:34well and the fact that he's in good qualifying form at the moment and he's been in good qualifying form
38:39this whole year i think we could could see lewis take uh take pole position tomorrow great to see
38:44wouldn't it um interestingly he pointed out that he could and should have perhaps won the last two
38:49races at tracks that you wouldn't necessarily think would suit him now we come here and it is so much
38:55better suited to the ferrari car so actually he clearly is trying to find his stride and build some
39:02momentum going into the summer break absolutely i think he's got this sort of new lease of life this
39:06year we've seen and i think with that it's so important as a racing driver to have that confidence
39:10it wasn't long ago here where you know he was very down in the dumps he he wasn't sure about
39:15you know
39:16if it was his driving the car obviously wasn't suiting him and i think now we've got away from
39:20the ground effects cars we've gone something a bit lighter he's kind of got the whole team around him
39:24he's feeling that support of of the tofosi of the ferrari team and with that all of these factors
39:30coming together and then like you say you come to a track like this and the stars kind of align
39:34in that
39:34sense so um yeah i'd love to see him put it on pole tomorrow but even if he doesn't he's
39:38right there
39:38in the mix constantly pushing someone like charles who we know on one lap is one of the most impressive
39:42drivers absolutely now someone who did uh struggle a bit today franco colapinto i mean you mentioned
39:47the conditions out there it was a a tough one for franco i feel for him because he actually has
39:52he
39:52decent run a form of late he has and the alpine's been working quite well but you see here in
39:57this last
39:58corner has been catching a lot of drivers out usually a little bit later in the corner but that sort
40:02of
40:02transition of change of direction as you come out of the penultimate corner and then sort of put the
40:06lock into the last corner the race just said no thank you and uh as soon as he's lost that
40:11the car
40:12he's a passenger and straight into the barriers so unfortunate especially because i think he is
40:16someone that's had a lot of confidence recently and being a driver that's sort of built momentum
40:21with some good results and then something like this happens and he's got flavio to answer to it it's
40:25it's not a position he wants to be in but i'm sure he can bounce back to my i'm not
40:28sure i quite
40:28forgive him for the world cup either did you see his did you see his post he posted wonderwall
40:33did he yeah i mean how could you do that to our broken hearts i know but they lost in
40:38the final
40:39so it doesn't matter he's a lovely guy though you'd have to say he's out qualified his teammate at the
40:44last three grand prix which is no mean feat when you consider it's pierre gasly on the other side of
40:48the garage exactly and that's what i mean you give a driver a runner form some confidence just a
40:54sort of stable footing um you know he doesn't feel like he's up against it fighting for his seat
40:58constantly and that's what they can do but equally it's about delivering without crashing and that's
41:04something that franco sometimes just needs to rattle out but today i think so many drivers kimmy was
41:09on the edge of crashing many a time so many drivers were on the limit and so i think he
41:14just
41:14needs to wipe that from his brain hope tomorrow is a little bit easier conditions wise and yeah focus on
41:18that let's remind ourselves of those lockups charl being one of them at turn one and turn 12.
41:26yeah it's very challenging turn one which is weird because it is actually a bit of a headwind but i
41:30mean yeah coming into into turn 12 here another big lock up kimmy kind of had the opposite issue with
41:37the rear axle being a challenge for him rear locking straight away here into the chicane loses the rear this
41:42was his second push lap on the on the soft tire yeah but i keep locking the rear man it's
41:49uh it's too much
41:55not what not what he wanted to feel from the car i mean especially missing fp1 and then that's the
41:59feeling you have with the car and fp2 it's very challenging but something that is clear in the data
42:03if it's locked in the rears it shows on the data they'll hopefully have some fixes for for the drivers
42:08tomorrow but it's a challenge for them and i think that's what we like to watch as uh spectators we
42:13don't like it easy for the drivers so it's it's nice to see them hustling the cars out there making
42:17mistakes and even for someone that's been as dominant as kimmy this year it's not easy for him
42:21yeah i mean he didn't get a flying lap on the sauce what would and could we expect from him
42:26i mean we
42:27feel that mercedes are perhaps slightly on the back foot compared to ferrari and potentially uh well
42:32actually lando up there in p3 was quite impressive i think in and around where lando was i mean i
42:36do
42:37think he probably would have gone quicker than george george had a bit of disparity to even fred
42:41in a few of the straights as well so maybe they're still looking to work through those issues
42:46then you look at kimmy on the lap he was on looked better but that's the whole point of this
42:50track
42:51is it's so difficult to put together so even if they put the lap in i don't think mercedes were
42:56quite as competitive as they would have liked and george's lap also looked like a handful so
43:00they've got a lot of work to do tonight really quick word on red bull we had a few complaints
43:04from max but he still managed p4 today yeah not happy initially with the seat not comfortable
43:09which seemed a bit weird and then yes also having issues rear axle said he felt locked so um yeah
43:14again a lot of work to do tonight for red bull it's going to be a busy evening isn't it
43:18and one for us
43:19too because we've got the f1 show up next and uh tomorrow join us nice and early 11 15 for
43:25practice
43:26is three but for now well make a really quick cup of tea and then join us for the f1
43:30show coming very
43:36soon
