00:05A self-proclaimed soca king, Marshall Montano, screened his documentary, Like a Boss, Journey of a Soca King, at the
00:12Brooklyn Public Library in Brooklyn, New York.
00:14The documentary was projected on the walls of the library, with thousands of spectators gathered to follow Montano's journey from
00:20being too young to soca, to his experience leading up to his 2015 power soca monarch win with his song,
00:27Like a Boss.
00:28Montano was also honored by the state of New York with an official declaration endorsing his title as a boss.
00:35Whether you call him Michelle or Marshall, in New York we call him the boss, so make some noise for

00:43Beyond the documentary, Montano's mission of being an ambassador for soca music was also encapsulated with an exhibition of his
00:51personal effects, awards and imagery that highlight his 40 plus year career
00:56as a driving force within the Caribbean music industry.
01:00The exhibition, which occupies two floors within the library, gives visitors the opportunity to delve into Montano's world of musical
01:08mastery.
01:09And in the spirit of literature, Montano's collaboration with the library also included a public reading of his children's book,
01:16Boy Boy and the Magic Drum.
01:18The book focuses on inspiring Caribbean youth through the power of soca music, recycling and the magical instrument created right
01:26here at home, the Steel Pond.
01:31The exhibition will remain on display until Saturday, September 12, 2026.
