00:00The Cabinet decided today to launch a migrant registration program in the country.
00:04This was announced this evening by Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander.
00:09He says that unlike 2019, it is not being limited to persons from Venezuela, and it is coming at a cost.
00:16We also intend to have a revenue generated from this registration.
00:26It requires a fee of $700 per person.
00:36That does not include children.
00:41On the last occasion, $5 million was spent by the last government with respect to the registration.
00:51On this occasion, we are looking at $1 million.
00:57The reason being, we are using all of government facilities to accommodate this project.
01:06For instance, we are looking at the Larigone Stadium in Arima, Atobolem Stadium in Cova,
01:19Hainsey Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Dwight York Stadium in Tobago.
01:24The minister also gave further details on how the migrant registration program will be ruled out.
01:29The process should start by next week Friday, and the in-person registration would start after the carnival.
01:46Again, we took this initiative because a lot of persons in and around Trian Tobago are involved in crime and other type of activities.
02:04And we want to be able to know who lives here, where, so we'll know how to manoeuvre during investigations and otherwise.
02:20And it will also give the migrants an opportunity to work in Trinidad and Tobago.
