00:00Which cryptocurrency exchanges would you consider to be the safest in the space?
00:06That's what we are discussing in today's video, looking at the safest crypto exchange accounts,
00:12the security controls and ranking those.
00:15So most crypto security rankings sort of ask, is the exchange safe, right?
00:21You see that a lot, but that question can be a little bit vague and exchange can be financially healthy.
00:26But Steve, still kind of leave your individual account maybe exposed to phishing attacks or SIM swaps or session theft,
00:35stolen devices, malicious API keys, unauthorized withdrawals.
00:40So there's a few risks that you definitely need to consider.
00:43What we actually did to approach this whole scenario is to build a proprietary tool,
00:49which is our exchange account security score that measures what actually happens if someone gets into your account, right?
00:57So we compared different platforms, Bybit, Kraken, OKEx, BitGit, Binance, Coinbase, Vala, Luno, 6.io,
01:07across different kind of things like pass keys and hardware security keys,
01:14authenticated 2FAs, anti-phishing codes, withdrawal whitelist, kind of a new address delays,
01:22withdrawal protections, device session controls, also API permissions and IP restrictions,
01:29as well as biometric mobile security, emergency account locks and recovery controls.
01:35Because if you are somebody who is making a lot of money in this bull market,
01:40you just need to make sure that you don't end up making all the right moves in the market,
01:45getting a lot of money and then not being able to secure it properly because you are using the wrong
01:51kind of platform.
01:51And our findings actually come kind of interesting because we found out that even though Bybit did get hacked just
02:00this year,
02:01it still is one of the leading ones when it comes to user configurable withdrawal protections.
02:07Kraken is exceptionally strong for deliberate kind of like lockdown through pass keys,
02:13for example, withdrawal 2FA, master key and global setting locks.
02:18And OKEx is very strong, combines kind of the FIDO authentication and withdrawal and API controls.
02:27You've got BigGit that is very good for cross-device withdrawal verifications and Binance is really one of the strongest
02:35of mature all-round security stacks.
02:38Coinbase definitely performs particularly well for phishing resistant authentication and withdrawal allow less strikes.
02:46So this is good if you're somebody who's in a region like South Africa, like myself right now.
02:51Vala and Luno both offer surprisingly strong account containment controls as well.
02:57But I think the key distinction to note is always that platform security, solvency risk, you know, individual account takeover
03:05risks.
03:07These are things that you need to consider.
03:09They're not necessarily the same.
03:10So it's always good to have tools that actually kind of help you make sure the platform that you're using
03:18is the most secure for what you're trying to do.
