00:02:12were crowded into those airless crypts.

00:02:17on mattresses alive with vermin.
00:02:20They froze on winter nights,
00:02:22and their bodies were drained of sweat
00:02:24in the breathless heat of summer.
00:02:27Every morning, while it was still dark,
00:02:30my guards made the rounds,
00:02:32turning out the inmate kitchen workers
00:02:34so they could cook the slop
00:02:35that was fed by prisoners
00:02:37under the name of breakfast.
00:02:40Is it any wonder that after a sleepless night,
00:02:43a man sometimes went berserk
00:02:45and fought the hated walls that shot him in?

00:03:19rules no man could keep under such conditions,
00:03:22and they were there to be sentenced to punishment.

00:03:28whose mind had cracked under the awful strain.
00:03:31His feet were touching the deadline,
00:03:34and every prisoner knew
