00:00So welcome Shriya and Sayami to INS. It's an absolute pleasure to have you with us on board today.
00:06Thank you. Marathi girls represent.
00:10Absolutely. Like we were just having this quick conversation
00:12that the movie is just around the Ganpati festival and all of that.
00:17So, what love, just now people have said that
00:20we are releasing Ganpati's hand-in-the-face to the animals.
00:23So I really firstly wanted to know that
00:25when a movie was offered, this movie looks like offbeat.
00:29It's not very your typical rom-com or comedy dramas.
00:33So firstly, when it was offered to you, what made you say a yes to it?
00:37Apart from the fact that it has such a fine cast
00:39and it has been directed by Priyadarshan sir.
00:41Which is going to be your answer, I know.
00:43Apart from that, what made you come on board for the movie?
00:48Well, I think we both would probably agree is that it's the story.
00:53We were chatting about it just a little earlier.
00:56It's always the story, you know, if you're sitting through a reading,
00:59sitting through a narration or if you're reading the script yourself.
01:02And personally for me, if I'm hooked to someone narrating
01:05or not as what my part is, I'm never always listening.
01:09Like that would be the second or third time I'll think of what am I doing.
01:13But if the story has me hooked, it's something which I want to be a part of.
01:17And it's not been a part of a thriller.
01:21So it's just a different genre which besides of course the big names that you spoke about.
01:27Saif sir, Akshay sir, Priyan sir.
01:29So the whole ecosystem that was in place for this film,
01:34it was all very exciting but it is a very interesting story.
01:39I loved thrillers even as an audience.
01:42Priyan Darshan sir, Akshay sir, Saif sir.
01:45And generally the combination of this cast,
01:48it was obviously a no brainer that I wanted to do it.
01:52Also given the fact that last few years,
01:54a lot of my work has mainly been on streaming platforms.
01:57It's work that I'm very proud of.
01:59But I wanted to focus on films.
02:02And I think a commercial film is very necessary to be in your kitchen.
02:08But luckily, this is not just any other commercial film.
02:12It is wonderful in terms of even the story.
02:16I liked Malayalam film.
02:23So I just think it's a new experience completely.
02:26And this is a very special September.
02:29Because I also have Mirzapur releasing on 4th and Haywan on 11th.
02:32So I have coined it as a Shriya-temper month.
02:37For my own kick and satisfaction.
02:39Because you can't take a theatrical release for granted anymore.
02:44So I am very excited for it.
02:48Right, absolutely.
02:50Shriya, you just mentioned that you have been a part of a lot of OTT releases.
02:54And you have been a part of a lot of OTT releases.
02:56Though you made your Indic Milk Industry debut with a Marathi movie.
03:02But still you have found your establishment through OTTs.
03:05Yeah.
03:06But still I wanted to know that despite the Gen Z,
03:09which is our generation,
03:10they prefer a lot of OTTs.
03:12But still,
03:13the one thing that you see yourself on your home screen,
03:29the one thing that you see yourself on the big screen,
03:33that you see yourself on the big screen with your names outside,
03:35right near the pop-punk counter.
03:36What is your day experience with Sachsundra?
03:39Both those experiences are very different actually.
03:42I think I was part of the early wave of OTT with Mirzapur being an early bird and such a
03:48cult winner at that point.
03:51I think that the relationship with your audience is based on the screen that they watch you.
03:57First there were stars who were inaccessible.
04:00Now there are stars who are accessible.
04:02You can message us.
04:03So that dynamic has changed.
04:05I do feel that the charm of the big bird is irreplaceable.
04:09And the connection with OTT is very intimate with your audience.
04:16Because you are literally that close.
04:19You know,
04:19they feel a self-esteem.
04:21So I think it's very beautiful that I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
04:26Having said that,
04:27as an actor,
04:28my priority will always be a story.
04:31And then medium second.
04:33I mean,
04:33as much as I want to do more films,
04:35which I do want to do.
04:37But if the story looks good and then it becomes a series,
04:41then it does not matter.
04:43Because when the content is so much,
04:45and all the things are being made,
04:47you want to be part of things that are going to be remembered.
04:49And then just open.
04:51You know,
04:51so the point is to keep building a body of work that's going to remember,
04:58and emotionally resonate and stay.
05:00Because then it will be very easy to open.
05:02Correct.
05:03There's a lot of content.
05:05So I feel like you need to be very clear about what approach you want to take.
05:10And right now,
05:11my focus is definitely more films,
05:13especially theatricals,
05:15which is not always in your hands.
05:16But my focus is that because,
05:19I don't want to be boxed as somebody who just does OTT.
05:24So I'm very mindful of that.
05:26And the industry can quickly stereotype you into things.
05:30Right.
05:30So I'm really happy that,
05:32you know,
05:32I have even Mirzapur the film,
05:34Hayman the film,
05:34and I just filmed Veer Das Ki Ek Horror film as well.
05:38So,
05:39that's the intention.
05:40Right.
05:41You know,
05:41as you mentioned that,
05:42now,
05:43audience,
05:44connectivity is much more accessible,
05:46much more easy.
05:47It's not happening at the time.
05:48We know through the film stars,
05:50through magazines,
05:51through journalists.
05:52But that's why
05:53that stardom is now ticked.
05:55Because,
05:56today,
05:58it's not easy to be famous today.
06:02First,
06:03you only got fame from your work.
06:07So,
06:08that stardom was ticked.
06:09And today,
06:09it's ticked.
06:10Today,
06:11you have skill or not,
06:14craft or not,
06:15people are famous.
06:17But,
06:17what will it tick?
06:19And,
06:19we don't know that.
06:21Correct.
06:22But,
06:22do you not feel that,
06:26almost every actor is there on social media,
06:30has that,
06:31you don't need anybody,
06:35you don't need anybody to let audiences know what is happening.
06:37So,
06:38this over exposure,
06:39do you feel that,
06:41because of this,
06:41people are saying,
06:42that,
06:42that,
06:42that,
06:44exactly.
06:46So,
06:46do you feel that,
06:57that,
06:58that,
06:58that,
06:58that,
06:58that,
06:58I don't want to be,
06:59papped at all,
07:00I don't want to be out at all,
07:01before Dhurander.
07:02So,
07:02we're seeing this kind of a change,
07:04because I feel,
07:05like the,
07:05big star actors also realizing that,
07:08you can't be so overexposed.
07:10So,
07:11I definitely agree that,
07:12there is this,
07:13this thing that people have realized,
07:15I feel,
07:16COVID ke baad,
07:18kaafi vakt,
07:18logon ko samajhmin hi aya,
07:20kya ho raha hai.
07:21So,
07:21I think,
07:21it took us a lot of time to understand,
07:23ki,
07:24ye,
07:24OTT phenomenon,
07:25jo aya hai,
07:26kyunki,
07:26gaher baih kar,
07:27sab reels,
07:28or,
07:29TikTok,
07:29or YouTube,
07:30for,
07:31I mean,
07:32lack of just,
07:33nothing to do,
07:34people started doing that as well,
07:35just to be in,
07:36connect with your fans.
07:38Then,
07:38wo,
07:39I felt,
07:40people just kept doing it,
07:41so much,
07:42that it became like,
07:43you're saying, ki,
07:44yaar, kyun,
07:44theater jai,
07:45kyunki,
07:46itna wo,
07:47Mumbai ke traffic mein jaana ho,
07:49yaar,
07:49Chennai,
07:49yaa,
07:49Bangalore ke traffic mein jaake picture dekho,
07:51matlab,
07:52the whole experience is like,
07:53a four and a half hour experience.
07:55But,
07:55having said that,
07:57for me,
07:58I am a movie lover first,
07:59and actor second,
08:00because I've grown up,
08:01just going and,
08:03like,
08:03I love watching films in the theater.
08:05Like,
08:05this experience of a dark room,
08:08with strangers,
08:08on the big screen,
08:09where,
08:10aap stars ko aise dekhte the,
08:12you know,
08:12you're looking at them with awe,
08:14is something that,
08:14we've all grown up with.
08:16So,
08:16I really miss,
08:18watching,
08:19films in the theater.
08:20So,
08:20I make it a habit,
08:22to go every Friday,
08:23for whatever releases,
08:24I go and watch,
08:24because I really enjoy eating popcorn,
08:26and I really enjoy watching,
08:28a film,
08:29on the big screen.
08:31So,
08:31the over exposure,
08:32I completely agree with,
08:34but,
08:34also,
08:35the last question,
08:35you were talking to Shriya about,
08:37I feel that,
08:38certain films,
08:39are good on OTT,
08:41which are intimate films.
08:42Mainai jase,
08:43Anurag sir ke saad,
08:44choked film ki thi,
08:45that,
08:45I wouldn't have wanted to watch that,
08:47on a big screen,
08:48because,
08:48it was a film,
08:49which is very intimate,
08:50and,
08:50shot in,
08:51one room,
08:53and,
08:53as opposed to a film,
08:54called,
08:55Ghoomar,
08:55I did with Balki sir,
08:57there was so much money,
08:58OTTs were giving him,
08:59saying that sir,
09:00just,
09:00give it to us,
09:01he said that no,
09:02I want to watch,
09:02a cricket match,
09:03on a big screen,
09:04I don't want to,
09:04it's not a small,
09:06screen film.
09:07So,
09:08I feel with every film,
09:09also,
09:10it's a little different,
09:10the experience,
09:11as actors,
09:12actually,
09:12are saying,
09:13I've done a film called Agni,
09:18which was supposed to be,
09:19a theatrical film,
09:19when we signed,
09:20but,
09:21it went on OTT,
09:22so,
09:22that has changed,
09:24a lot,
09:24but,
09:25like she's saying,
09:26as long as it excites you,
09:27if it's on the big screen,
09:29if it's releasing,
09:29as long as it reaches an audience,
09:31I feel,
09:31that's what matters.
09:32I do think though,
09:33that,
09:38with stardom,
09:40some mystery,
09:41goes hand in hand,
09:42aajkal,
09:43relatable,
09:44banne ke chakar mein,
09:45baut log,
09:46itne relatable,
09:47ban gaya hai,
09:47ki wo,
09:48aura pighal jata hai,
09:50so,
09:50I personally feel,
09:51I don't want my stars,
09:52to be very relatable,
09:53I completely agree,
09:54I don't want to relate to them,
09:56and,
09:58I do feel sometimes,
10:00over exposure ka risk,
10:01hota hai,
10:02but,
10:03itne strategy ke saath,
10:05I don't think,
10:05something works,
10:06kuch log hai hai,
10:07itne ke liye,
10:07it works ki,
10:08you know,
10:09vlogging and stuff,
10:10they enjoy it,
10:10and,
10:11that has helped them,
10:12to find their career,
10:14which is,
10:14great,
10:15I mean,
10:15I've worked with somebody like,
10:16who is amazing,
10:18and the way he has navigated his career,
10:20is great,
10:20so,
10:20there are no fixed answers,
10:21but,
10:23definitely,
10:24the definition of stardom,
10:26has,
10:27changed,
10:27and evolved,
10:29and,
10:29I don't think,
10:31that era can,
10:32of the true star,
10:33can ever come back,
10:34just because,
10:35everyone is in your face now,
10:36absolutely,
10:37you know,
10:37and I don't think,
10:38everybody is completely,
10:41comfortable,
10:42being themselves anymore,
10:43because of social media,
10:44because,
10:45people were so candid,
10:46in their interviews,
10:47and things like that,
10:48so,
10:48today,
10:49everyone is on the edge,
10:51but,
10:52at the same time,
10:53you're saying,
10:54that,
10:54if someone is doing it,
10:55you're saying,
10:56you can't strategize,
10:58like, for instance,
10:58there's a time,
10:59when Vicky was putting out,
11:00just dance videos,
11:01in his vanity bag,
11:02because it was coming from his heart,
11:04exactly,
11:05the minute,
11:06you feel like,
11:06yeah,
11:07rose,
11:07which was,
11:08Monday motivation,
11:09then it just messes up everything,
11:12because,
11:12if something's coming,
11:13from your heart,
11:14where you're saying,
11:15once in a while,
11:15I want to post this,
11:16it's alright,
11:17but the minute,
11:18it becomes like,
11:18the strategy,
11:20then it becomes,
11:21I think,
11:22and there's also,
11:22there's also,
11:23beauty,
11:24and,
11:26there's a beauty,
11:27in seeing people,
11:28you admire,
11:29also just live life,
11:31and to know things,
11:32about them,
11:32so,
11:32it's a double-edged sword,
11:34so,
11:37you don't know,
11:38what line to,
11:40you know,
11:40when we talked about,
11:41just,
11:41when we talked about,
11:42when we talk about,
11:43when we talk about,
11:44that concept,
11:46old school,
11:47this generation,
11:48old school,
11:49old school,
11:50everything is accessible,
11:51on social media,
11:52it's a new world,
11:54okay,
11:54it's a little old school,
11:55in terms of,
11:55being silly goers,
11:57but if I may,
11:58just interrupt,
11:58and tell you,
11:59there's a study,
12:00recently,
12:00that has shown,
12:01that in fact,
12:02Gen Z,
12:02they're going back,
12:03to the theatre,
12:04more Gen Z's,
12:04but they have,
12:05coined this term,
12:06if we really like,
12:08to go,
12:09to watch,
12:10theater movies,
12:10movies,
12:11and theater,
12:12so,
12:13okay,
12:19but coming back,
12:20the question,
12:20I want to know,
12:43from your perspective,
12:46you guys,
12:47being a part of,
12:47millennial,
12:48through,
12:48I wanted to understand,
12:49that you kind of,
12:50agree with what,
12:51the kind of,
12:53terms that have been,
12:54coined on,
12:54millennials,
12:55that we don't have,
12:55so many vocal,
12:56things about,
12:57on the spot,
12:58no means no,
12:59we don't want to say,
13:00no means no,
13:01we don't want to say,
13:01yes,
13:02yes,
13:02yes,
13:02yes,
13:03yes,
13:03yes,
13:03yes,
13:03yes,
13:21that,
13:21when you don't understand,
13:23that issue,
13:23or subject,
13:24not understand,
13:25for the sake of it,
13:27to say it,
13:27is more detrimental,
13:29therefore,
13:30I feel,
13:30maybe,
13:30it's just a question,
13:31of patience,
13:32and an approach,
13:34because,
13:34the younger generation,
13:36of course,
13:37they're much more brave,
13:38in so many ways,
13:39but they're also,
13:40quick to want to say,
13:42rather than,
13:43really go deep into it,
13:44and know more,
13:45also,
13:46I truly believe,
13:47that for any conversation,
13:49in life,
13:50your,
13:51ability,
13:52to have that,
13:53neuroplasticity,
13:54your ability,
13:54to,
13:55change your mind,
13:57if provided with,
13:58any kind of,
13:58new information,
13:59that should be there,
14:00aaj kal,
14:01in general,
14:03on social media,
14:04pe,
14:04ya kahi par bhi,
14:06baate karna,
14:06muskhil ho jata hai,
14:07because,
14:07it's not,
14:08a conversation,
14:09it is,
14:10just,
14:11I want you to agree with me,
14:12and that is how it is,
14:14so,
14:14only speak,
14:15if you will agree,
14:16or don't speak,
14:17so,
14:19that can be a little bit,
14:20of a challenge,
14:21but,
14:21it's a personal thing,
14:22I feel,
14:23I actually have a different opinion,
14:25because,
14:25I feel that,
14:26I feel I am very old school,
14:28so,
14:29my,
14:30I would say,
14:31friends is Gulzar Sam,
14:32that age group,
14:33so,
14:33I am very old,
14:34old soul,
14:35so,
14:36I don't,
14:37coining,
14:38the term,
14:39what term,
14:39I don't know,
14:41clocking,
14:42walking,
14:42I don't know,
14:43but,
14:44I feel that,
14:45I don't believe in generalizing,
14:47that,
14:48Gen Z's,
14:49millennials,
14:50I don't know,
14:53whatever,
14:5340,
14:5350 year olds are,
14:55boomers,
14:57millennials,
14:58so,
14:59I am saying,
15:0070 born,
15:0180 born,
15:01I feel it can't be,
15:02yeah,
15:02it can't be generalized,
15:04that,
15:05because,
15:05there are so many examples,
15:07from a Shabana Azmi,
15:08to a Gulzar Sam,
15:09to,
15:09so many people,
15:11who I look up to,
15:12to age ki baat nahi hai,
15:14it's about,
15:15whether,
15:15you feel very strongly,
15:17for something,
15:18and,
15:19it's about that,
15:20and not,
15:21going by a trend,
15:22that,
15:24it's about what,
15:25you truly believe in,
15:26I don't think,
15:27age ki baat hai,
15:28or,
15:28Gen Z,
15:29millennial ki baat hai,
15:30it's about,
15:31a personality,
15:32so,
15:32it's not something,
15:33I don't generalize.
15:34I would really,
15:34want to have this conversation,
15:36more,
15:36more with you all,
15:37but,
15:37I would like to,

16:07when he speaks a lot,
16:09his timings,

16:10many comments,
16:12they only,
16:13kind of,
16:13look at,
16:14this generation looks at,
16:15trolling him,
16:15saying,
16:15I really want to know,
16:18from a perspective,
16:19of her daughter,
16:20how do you take it?
16:21And, from his perspective,
16:22what does her,
16:23how does he take it?
16:24No,

16:26he has,
16:27more than,
16:2860 years,
16:28of experience,
16:29in the film industry,
16:31and,
16:33people,

16:35not aware,
16:35of the range,
16:36and scale,
16:37of experiences,
16:37he has,
16:38and,
16:39in a setup,
16:40where somebody is asked,
16:41of course,
16:42you are going to share,
16:42your experiences,
16:43I feel like,
16:45the love is,

16:47no space,
16:48for negativity,

17:00you know what I am saying,
17:02so,
17:02I feel like,
17:03luckily,
17:04all of us,
17:04are really positive people,
17:06and,
17:06when we are out there,
17:07in real life,
17:08we only experience love,
17:10so,
17:10all of,
17:11this,
17:12virtual,
17:13or,
17:13internet,
17:14chatter,
17:15is something,
17:16that,
17:17doesn't feel real,
17:19because,
17:19when you are out there,
17:20you only,
17:20get love,
17:22you know,
17:22and,
17:23when people say negative things,
17:25it's more a reflection,
17:26on them,
17:28and,
17:28it is,
17:29that attention seeking,
17:30behavior,
