01:43certainly God is good to Israel and to those whose motives are pure
01:49but as for me my feet almost slipped my feet almost slid out from under me for I envied those
01:57who
01:57are proud as I observe the prosperity of the wicked for they suffer no pain their bodies are strong and
02:05well fed they are immune to the common trouble to men they do not suffer as other men do arrogance
02:14is
02:14their necklace and violence covers them like clothing their prosperity causes them to do wrong and their thoughts
02:24are sinful they mock and say evil things they proudly threaten violence they speak as if they rule in heaven
02:35and lay claim to the earth
02:38therefore they have more than enough food to eat and even suck up the water of the sea they say
02:44how does God know what we do is the most high aware of what goes on take a good look
02:54this is what the wicked are like those who always have
03:02I concluded surely in vain I have kept my motives pure and maintained a pure lifestyle I suffer all day
03:13long and I am punished every morning
03:18if I had publicized these thoughts I would have betrayed your people and when I tried to make sense of
03:25this it was troubling to me
03:29then I entered the precincts of God's temple and I understood the destiny of the wicked
03:38surely you put them in slippery places and you bring them down to ruin
03:44how desolate they become in a mere moment terrifying judgments make their demise complete
03:53they are like a dream after one wakes up
03:56O Lord when you awake you will despise them
04:01yes my spirit was bitter and my insides felt sharp pain
04:07I was ignorant and lacked insight I was as senseless as an animal before you
04:15but I am continually with you you hold my right hand
04:19you guide me by your wise advice and then you will lead me to a position of honour
04:26whom do I have in heaven but you
04:28I desire no one but you on earth
04:33my flesh and my heart may grow weak but God always protects my heart and gives me stability
04:41yes look those far from you die
04:44you destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you
04:49but as for me God's presence is all I need
04:52I have made the sovereign Lord my shelter as I declare all the things you have done
04:59glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

05:28Remember your people whom you acquired in ancient times
05:32whom you rescued so that they could be your very own nation as well as Mount Zion where you dwell
05:41hurry to the permanent ruins and to all the damage the enemy has done to the temple
05:48your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary
05:51they set up their battle flags
05:54they invade like lumberjacks swinging their axes in a thick forest
06:00and now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars
06:06they set your sanctuary on fire
06:09they desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground
06:15they say to themselves
06:16we will oppress all of them
06:20they burn down all the places where people worship God in the land
06:26we do not see any signs of God's presence
06:29there are no longer any prophets
06:31and we have no one to tell us how long this will last
06:36how long oh God
06:37will the adversary hurl insults
06:40will the enemy blaspheme your name forever
06:44why do you remain inactive
06:47intervene and destroy him
06:51but God has been my king from ancient times
06:55performing acts of deliverance on the earth
06:59you destroyed the sea by your strength
07:02you shattered the heads of the sea monster in the water
07:06you crushed the heads of the leviathan
07:09you fed him to the people who live along the coast
07:13you broke open the spring and the stream
07:16you dried up perpetually flowing rivers
07:20you established the cycle of day and night
07:24you put the moon and the sun in place
07:28you set up all the boundaries of the earth
07:31you created the cycle of summer and winter
07:35remember how the enemy hurls insults O Lord
07:38and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name
07:44do not hand the life of your dove over to a wild animal
07:49do not continue to disregard the lives of your oppressed people
07:55remember your covenant promises
07:57for the dark regions of the earth
07:59are full of places where violence rules
08:03do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame
08:07let the oppressed and the poor praise your name
08:12rise up O God
08:13defend your honour
08:15remember how fools insult you all day long
08:18do not disregard what your enemies say
08:22or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you
08:28glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

08:45thus said the Lord God the Holy One of Israel
08:48in returning and rest shall you be saved
08:53quietness and trust shall be your strength

09:07so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this fleeting world
09:13may rest upon your eternal changelessness

10:38give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
