00:00Because to your point on the players, I can understand why they would say doesn't feel very fair if this
00:06is the size of the price of the regular season and then it gets this much bigger for the postseason
00:12that is a completely random, you know, it's three events.
00:17If the course doesn't fit me for, you know, week one or week two, tough luck, that's the way it's
00:22going to be.
00:23A lot of guys like it. A lot of guys like it.
00:25And it's because more call this week said he liked the old format, the starting strokes format.
00:30You know, I mean, it's interesting. I mean, here's some.
00:32Yeah, there's a lot of guys that prefer kind of how it used to be that they don't mind how
00:36it is now.
00:37There's some players that are really for, you know, mixing up the playoffs and having it, you know, this final
00:43of the tour championship,
00:44which is where it seems to be trending towards this like group match play situation that then morphs into some
00:53form of match play bracket,
00:54which has its own problems.
00:56If you end up with the wrong guys, if you end up with blowouts, you run into some problems from
01:01a from a rating standpoint and a storyline standpoint.
01:04So I see holes in a lot of these different arguments.
01:09One of the interesting ones that my co-producer on NBC Weeks, he he gave this idea, which was, you
01:19know, I'm curious if you like it.
01:20But it's a lot similar to what we're seeing now, which is that you finish the BMW championship and then
01:25the season long race for the FedEx Cup is awarded at the end of the BMW championship.
01:31And that would be Scotty Shefford.
01:33He's won.
01:33He's crowned on the 18th green.
01:35And the next week of the tour championship is just like it is now.
01:39It's a 72 hole stroke play event in the winter of the tour championship would then go and play the
01:47person who won the season long race right after the 72 holes in a four hole playoff do or die
01:54to win the whole thing.
01:55It would keep people on the TV and watching like a four hole playoff.
02:00So now if let's say Scotty went and won the tour championship the next week, then there would be no
02:06four hole playoff.
02:07But as last year is an example, like Scotty then would have gone and played Tommy Fleetwood in a four
02:13hole playoff to determine like who won the playoffs.
02:16So you have a mano mano deal.
02:19It wouldn't take too long.
02:20It would be a playoff that I feel like people would enjoy watching.
02:23Now, I see arguments in that, but I just thought like, hey, here's another another idea of like how can
02:29you still have a 72 hole tour championship that feels like it rewards who won the best versus like who
02:37played well in the right matches and like who who who played poorly in one and who like got the
02:42right draws and who played bad or who played well and lost and like didn't keep didn't get to keep
02:50going.
02:50Just ran on to a hot player that day.
02:53So there's that argument with match play that you run into.
02:56So I'm I'm I'm I'm not very bullish on the match play.
03:00I think we're always just trying to fix things and we always just point to like, oh, well, match play
03:05will fix it.
03:06We love the Ryder Cup.
03:07We love people showing emotion.
03:09And part of my brain does go there.
03:11But the other side's like, well, like I really liked watching the the BMW today.
03:17Like that was a really enjoyable watch because of the storylines and who ended up at the top.
03:22And that's that's if you can somehow simulate a leaderboard that has six to eight names on a Saturday and
03:32Sunday where those guys are going at it from a stroke play perspective.
03:37That's interesting to me.
03:38I don't know how you can do that.
03:40Like, can you have qualifications to where, OK, if you made the top eight now, all of you go and
03:45duke it out and like this Monday qualifier situation on one Sunday round.
03:50Let's see who can go put it all together when it matters the most with like eight guys, send them
03:55out or six got whatever it is.
03:56Like I'm I'm leaning more that way than I am to to being that match play is like our ultimate
04:06future.
04:07Now, I think we're going to go there, but I don't know if it's going to be I don't think
04:12it's going to be forever.
