00:00All right, we've been teasing the fact that we had a big show-related announcement.
00:04We're going to get right to it.
00:06Every Friday at 8 a.m., Washington Commanders General Manager Adam Peters
00:13is going to join the Junkies starting after the Week 1 opener
00:17against the Philadelphia Eagles.
00:20Wow.
00:20So Adam Peters will be a weekly guest during the NFL season.
00:24You will get to hear everything, all the reactions from Adam Peters
00:28right here on the Junkies every Friday, 8 a.m.
00:32And he will not be bumped.
00:33This is Radio Insider, but when we were at training camp,
00:36we said after the show, we taped four or five interviews,
00:39and Adam Peters came over, and he said hello,
00:41and he said he was excited to be part of the show,
00:43and he was coming on, and we're doing small talk,
00:45and then Terry McLaurin sat down, and we're like,
00:47sorry, got to talk to Terry.
00:49But you know what? He was actually very cool about it.
00:51He was.
00:51He was very cool.
00:52He knows where he stands on the pecking order.
00:55He knows Terry brings in more eyeballs.
00:56I think he was very different then when we saw him at camp
00:59as opposed to when we went to these media happy hours.
01:02You know what the difference is?
01:03He was kind of in our environment.
01:05Yeah, maybe that's what it was.
01:06But he was dapping us up and saying what's going on.
01:09He was more comfortable.
01:10Yeah.
01:10Yeah.
01:11And in the media happy hours, he talks to people,
01:14but he doesn't go and hug guys and dap them up.
01:16It's a little forced at those media happy hours.
01:18Yeah, that's true.
01:19It's got the same guys.
01:20I think it's also a little differential when it's not his milieu.
01:23That's not his spot.
01:24Right.
01:24That's our world, right?
01:26Well, we're in their world.
01:27We're a little uncomfortable.
01:29We don't want to be where we're not supposed to be.
01:31You know what I mean?
01:32I mean, he's out of camp with all his boys and all his coaches and players.
01:34Yeah, yeah.
01:35That's his environment.
01:36He was just a lot different.
01:37And I think he's going to be really good.
01:39You know, and it's great because we've had a relationship with the team,
01:43obviously, for years with various players or whatever.
01:44But it's been rocky at times.
01:46But, you know, with new ownership, it's been great.
01:48Yeah.
01:48But this is really the first time we've had, like, a coach or front.
01:52Well, I guess we had Ron.
01:53We had Ron.
01:55That's true.
01:56I was thinking back to Charlie.
01:57Certainly a general manager since when we were doing the Monday night deals with Charlie.
02:01Yeah, because to be honest, like, while Dan Snyder was here,
02:05they didn't have a real true, like, football general manager.
02:08I mean, they had Bruce Allen, like, as his right-hand man.
02:10They had Vinny.
02:10Vinny Serrato.
02:12I always thought Vinny was good radio, but he never really came on with us much.
02:16Right.
02:16And he's still doing radio, as far as I know, in Baltimore.
02:20Yeah, yeah.
02:20So I think it's fantastic.
02:23It's going to be every Monday, right?
02:25No, every Friday.
02:26No, every Friday.
02:27I'm sorry.
02:27Every Friday at 8 a.m.
02:29Right.
02:30You say after week one.
02:31Listen Monday, too.
02:32Listen Monday, too.
02:33Yeah, it's going to be kind of, okay, Friday's interesting to me.
02:36That's different.
02:37So it's going to be post, but it's also going to be a look ahead.
02:40Yeah.
02:40No, but you'll be able to get some injury insight into the games coming up on the weekend.
02:46And some insight into the moves that they may or may not be making.
02:50I think Friday is an interesting spot to have the GM on.
02:53That is an interesting time.
02:54That's actually news to me.
02:56I'm sure somebody said it, but it didn't register with me.
02:58Friday's different.
02:59Yeah.
02:59So Fridays at 8 a.m., Adam Peters, our weekly guest during Commander season after they play
03:05the Eagles.
03:06After the Eagles.
03:06He will start.
03:07Very cool.
03:08That's very good.
03:08And for at least a couple weeks, we're going to have two GMs on the show a week because
03:13we'll have Paul Timoni on Wednesdays and Adam Peters on Fridays.
03:17I get sized when we get heavy hitters on the show.
03:19Sure.
03:19I get sized.
03:20Big newsmakers.
03:21Hey, one of our first ever guests, if not our first ever guest in the history of the
03:25show, was a former GM, Bob Ferry.
03:28That's true.
03:29That's right.
03:29Bob Ferry is my guy.
03:30Me, RIP.
03:31Bob was awesome.
03:32He came to our studios in Bowie, sat down with us, and had fun.
03:36Oh, yeah.
03:37Totally.
03:38And then we did something.
03:38He was a good guy.
03:39Remember we did something when we did a little interview with John Nash when he was the sixth
03:43GM.
03:43Yeah, but we went out to interview him there.
03:44We had to go out there, but still, get to know him a little bit.
03:47A little bit.
03:48A little vibe with him.
03:49Yeah.
03:49And then Riz.
03:51Of course, we had a great relationship with Riz.
03:53Looks like we're building a good one with Taboni.
03:55Yep.
03:57I'm just glad the Nats got a win.
03:58Got to 62.
03:59I need five more wins.
04:01You're going to get there.
04:02Dale and Lyle had a big game.
04:03He did.
04:04I think he had five Ripsers.
04:05But the Rockies.
04:06Cavalli is, I mean, if he did this in the first two months, he's a Cy Young winner.
04:11He's definitely up there.
04:14Cavalli's a stud.
04:15He's got his 12th win.
04:16He was awesome last night.
04:19And then the Rockies are the worst team in baseball.
04:22So you have to beat the Rockies.
04:24So I'm hoping they win a couple more and take the pressure off.
04:27I need to get that 67.
04:29Who are the Nats playing when we are heading out to the game on Thursday?
04:32Colorado.
04:32Colorado.
04:33It's a four-game series.
04:33All right.
04:34Very good.
04:35Do you think Adam Peters will be good at, like, ball busting?
04:40Meaning, like, let's say week one doesn't go well and the center position's terrible.
04:45No.
04:46I don't think he's going to be critical.
04:48Did I spend 20 hours looking for centers this week?
04:51No.
04:52I don't.
04:52No.
04:54We're going to have to get to know him really, really well before that.
04:57I could just tell by, I could just tell, no.
05:00Nope.
05:01Yeah, I don't know him very well.
05:02I know he, I think he has.
05:03Yeah, but we didn't know Carberry very well, but we can bust balls with him and have fun with
05:06him.
05:06It takes a little while.
05:07It takes a while.
05:08I mean, maybe eventually once he gets to know us.
05:11Remember, this is the straight-up truth in my perception.
05:15Mike Rizzo hated us at first.
05:18He hated us.
05:19Because I remember in particular, he hated me.
05:21I know that for a fact.
05:22Because I was hammering him on the Strasburg thing and whether or not Strasburg wanted the
05:26ball, didn't want the whole thing.
05:28Because we were just, he was still new to it.
05:29And I was upset about the whole thing.
05:32But then I think once he saw that ultimately we're fans and we're not trying to get Getch's
05:37thing.
05:38Like, we just wanted to know.
05:39Like, we didn't mean any harm.
05:40We just want questions answered and we're fans.
05:43He grew to love us.
05:45Like, literally, I believe in my heart that Mike Rizzo loves the Junkies.
05:49And let me tell you something.
05:50I know for a fact he hated, at least me, at the beginning.
05:53I think Peters listens to the show.
05:55I've heard through the grapevine that he listens.
05:57I don't think that.
05:58But if you think that.
05:59He might only listen 10 minutes on a commute.
06:01Was it a reliable source?
06:03Yes.
06:04I mean, maybe.
06:05Then I believe it.
06:06I think these guys are so locked in that I don't know.
06:08I just don't feel like.
06:09I mean, he's a sports guy.
06:10I know.
06:12Drives to work and puts on a sports station.
06:13He probably has like a five minute commute to work.
06:16Yeah.
06:16Ten minute commute to work.
06:17But if he listens for five or ten minutes.
06:19I know historically guys would listen.
06:21Like, I know Ron would monitor everything.
06:23I think Ron listened more than he worked.
06:25Like, I know Ron listened.
06:27Yeah.
06:27And monitored what the media was saying.
06:30Yeah.
06:30But Ron would try and bring up something on the show that he was fed by like a PR guy.
06:35For sure.
06:35I think this guy, Adam Peters, legitimately listens.
06:39Well, here's how I know he doesn't.
06:40There's no way Adam Peters knows.
06:43You're JP.
06:44You're a true listener.
06:45You know who's who.
06:46Mm-hmm.
06:47In my opinion.
06:47He might have learned by now.
06:49I bet my house.
06:52No, I wouldn't bet my house.
06:53Yes.
06:53If you lined us up and said, who's who?
06:56I'm going to guess he doesn't know.
06:57He doesn't know.
06:57Now, he might by the time, you know, we have him on for eight or ten weeks and he gets
07:01to know us somewhat.
07:04I think he's going to be great.
07:05I really am.
07:06I think he's going to be really good.
07:06I think he's going to be entertaining.
07:07I think he'll be forthright.
07:08I think he'll be good.
07:09You know the memory that an NFL GM must have?
07:12I mean, you've got a roster in training camp like a hundred guys, right?
07:17And then you need to know the league.
07:19Yep.
07:19So that's a hundred guys times 30.
07:22Well, that's also his underlings.
07:23I look sometimes at my contact list.
07:25He's got a team.
07:26He's got a team.
07:27I look at my contact list of people that I allegedly know and we're friends with at
07:32some point and sometimes I'll look at it and go, who is this guy?
07:35I probably need to thin out my contact list, to be honest.
07:38I knocked out a couple recently.
07:40I could probably trim it by about 70%.
07:41How about, what do you think of this?
07:43What do you think if the first time or two or the next time we can see him,
07:48if we get a, like, let's kind of like an oath here, like a trust, like let's get,
07:53let's build the trust here.
07:54So in other words, Charlie led us into the inter-sanctum.
07:59Okay.
07:59We would go, first of all, it was partly because we would go out to Redskins Park every week
08:05and we'd interview him, right?
08:06We'd usually meet by a table or something, sit around the four of us with like old school
08:10with a dat recorder and four mics.
08:12Probably two mics that we were sharing for five people.
08:16But, you know, we had the thing.
08:18And then he would take us back at his office.
08:19We could see, he trusted us.
08:21We could see his board, his foobar list, the free agents.
08:26You know what I'm saying?
08:27Okay, will Adam treat the boys the same way?
08:32I don't know.
08:33I hope so.
08:33Will he let us into the inter-
08:34Probably not.
08:35I think he'll be more guarded than that, but I think-
08:37I know he's more guarded.
08:40But let's cross that line.
08:42Let's kiss.
08:43Let's make out in the, you know what I'm saying?
08:46Proverbially.
08:47I mean, he can only say no.
08:48We'll just ask.
08:49You want to make out in the back seat with Adam Peters?
08:52Let's get this.
08:52Like we're 17 years old?
08:53Let's get an intimate relationship here.
08:55I think we'll get there eventually.
08:56Trust the boys.
08:58I think we'll get there eventually.
08:59I mean, I'd love-
08:59But we'll be able to eventually like bust his balls on drafting Trey Lance.
09:03No.
09:04No.
09:05No.
09:05Are you insane?
09:06I mean, he's not going to be a fan of that.
09:08You try to nuke the deal and we don't bring up Trey Lance.
09:10And that's a previous team.
09:12I understand.
09:13I know.
09:13That's the kind of thing you would do.
09:14That's the kind of thing you would do.
09:16I'm just saying you want to get to that point where we're at with Carver.
09:18If you want to make it awkward and ask about Trey Lance, you go right ahead.
09:21Hey, Adam Peters.
09:23JP here.
09:24Did Jed York get any hookers?
09:27Wait, when you were working that?
09:28When you were working that?
09:29That's not what we're doing.
09:30The red flags are for Jed York?
09:32This is-
09:32That's not what we're doing.
09:33Jed ever has to borrow 140 cash from you?
09:35I'm making a larger point of being able to have a good joking relationship.
09:39Like, he seems like a very serious guy.
09:41Correct.
09:42And I think that you're correct.
09:44He's very serious.
09:46I don't think he laughs much.
09:49He was laughing a lot last Tuesday.
09:51Where?
09:53In the tent.
09:54He was chopping it up for a little bit.
09:56I thought so.
09:57I didn't talk to him that much.
09:59I shook his hand.
10:00He was laughing and joking around.
10:03I think it was fake.
10:04I don't think he's a joker.
10:06You think that was fake?
10:07Or you think he was putting on airs there?
10:10I don't think he's a big, yuck, yucky guy.
10:13He doesn't seem-
10:13He seems introverted.
10:15I'm going to guess if you went out for him.
10:16I think he's introverted.
10:17But he might-
10:18If you went out for him.
10:19If you really know him, he might be like that.
10:20That's different.
10:21That's different.
10:22No, we don't really know.
10:23Right.
10:23I don't know him.
10:23I'm saying, I want to cross over to really know him.
10:27Let's go-
10:27Let's get drunk together.
10:30Well, Adam Peters and the junks, let's get drunk together.
10:35Come out to Ashburn for half the hour.
10:37So we can build the trust.
10:38I hope so.
10:38Let's get freaking hammered.
10:41Let's do shots.
10:41Let's do mind erasers.
10:43Shots?
10:44We'll do shots in mid-50s?
10:46It'd be worth it.
10:47I would do it.
10:48Fireball shots?
10:49I would do it.
10:50I don't like fireball.
10:52Fireball, I don't even think it has real liquor, right?
10:54They sell that in a toy store.
10:56Here's the true tester relationship.
10:58Will Jason get his number to text?
11:00Yes.
11:00I'm going to try.
11:01I'm going to try.
11:03You don't have Tabonis yet, right?
11:05I don't have Tabonis.
11:06I should have DQs, but I don't have it.
11:07I mean, you know a good amount of the PR people for the Commanders.
11:10I'm shocked you don't have Adam's number already.
11:13They're not going to get it.
11:14He's not going to.
11:14You're only going to get it from him.
11:15He's not going to.
11:16You're only going to get it from him.
11:17He's not going to give it to you.
11:18Yeah, yeah.
11:20Anyway, it's exciting news.
11:22Starting the Friday after week one, every Friday at 8 o'clock, we'll talk to the Commanders
11:29GM.
11:29And by the way, we'll ask the questions that need to be asked, but we're not just going
11:33to hammer them every week, guys.
11:35Right?
11:36We're not just going to hammer them.
11:37You've got to ask what needs to be asked, but you've also got to have fun with them,
11:40as JP's trying to allude to.
11:44You know.
11:45It would be nice if they pulled the upset in week one.
11:47Got the dub in Philadelphia.
11:48It would make for a better first appearance.
11:51Make for a better show in general.
11:54Yeah.
11:54Oh, that would be massive.
11:56I heard Sheehan, I was listening to one of his segments, I was driving in, I'm constantly
12:00just listening to as much content as I can regarding the Commanders, and he was on tilt
12:06like we all are, because somebody accused him of being, I don't know, like, anti the
12:13team, you know, and that's what our local media is so bad, because we have an agenda.
12:20They didn't say us junkies, but the local media has an agenda to be anti the team.
12:24And he was losing his mind, trying to explain to people that when the team does well, we
12:28all do better.
12:30All of us want is them to be Super Bowl champs every single year.
12:34That's all.
12:35I've been saying that our entire career.
12:36I know.
12:37But I got a kick out of it, because he was losing his mind.
12:40They don't understand that.
12:41I've learned to ignore the HTTC hive, like, they're maniacs, and the fact that they think
12:47that we actively root against the team is laughable.
12:50It's so dumb.
12:51It's a laughable premise.
12:52It's so dumb.
12:54Look, we've defied the odds as a radio show.
12:56Because for the most part, our entire career, all of the teams have sucked.
13:00Okay, we got us.
13:01You know, the Caps were perennial contenders, but outside of one year, they were playoff flops.
13:07We got that Stanley, though.
13:09They never even made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
13:12You know, they were constantly flaming out.
13:14Okay, I guess in, I forget the year, 99.
13:17What year did they go to the Stanley Cup?
13:1997, I think.
13:21But that was the best of the four.
13:2297, 98.
13:23Yeah.
13:23Commanders slash Redskins pretty much sucked our entire career.
13:27Nationals had a nice little playoff run, but they were disappointing until the World
13:31Series year.
13:32And then the Zards slash Bullets, just terrible.
13:36Literally, we should have multiple millions and millions of dollars amongst the four of
13:40us.
13:41And bonuses.
13:41If the teams were actually even half decent to good.
13:45I'm not even talking about, like, Boston level.
13:47Some guy was coming at us on Twitter yesterday about us talking about the Nationals.
13:52And what I'd like to point out is, just take a look at the ballpark.
13:55What was he saying?
13:56Well, why we're not talking more about Vivos.
13:59I'm glad you didn't mention whatever his dumb Twitter handle is.
14:02Don't give him any oxygen.
14:04Yeah, but I'm, like, pointing towards this imaginary stadium right down the street.
14:09Like, we're going on Thursday.
14:11Yeah.
14:11But the reality is, there are less and less people going because they waved the white flag.
14:17Of course.
14:19We were talking about them when they were knocking on the door for wild card.
14:23When you win, you get, the winner gets the spoils.
14:25Yeah.
14:25When you win, you become interesting.
14:27Nobody wants to talk about a freaking loser.
14:29And he's all upset that we're talking commanders and not breaking down, you know, the second base position.
14:35By the way, C.J. Abrams still hasn't played second base.
14:37D.H. yesterday.
14:39He's refusing to play second base.
14:41I don't know.
14:42There's something going on there.
14:43We could ask Paul tomorrow.
14:44I have a bet until Friday.
14:45You think he's not packing his bags already to get out of D.C.?
14:48I have a bet that he will play by Friday.
14:50So we will talk about things like that.
14:51Yeah.
14:52But we're not going to break down the minutiae of every game when the team itself, without saying so, gave
14:58up on the season.
15:00Essentially.
15:01Who cares about that game?
15:02Yeah, I tell him, shh.
15:03No one cares about him.
15:05Give him the shh.
15:06Peters is going to be great.
15:07Don't need to hear from him.
15:08And what I also would say to him is, if you take the commanders, let's not go with the first
15:13game.
15:14The second game.
15:15And let's just take a look at total viewers and then do that with the Nats game.
15:19It's night and day.
15:20Like, we're not idiots.
15:21Like, if you do a four-hour national show, then we'd be out of the business.
15:26Yeah.
15:26We'd officially be looking for new...
15:29Hey, we gave the Nats plenty of run when they were in the hunt.
15:33We love the Nats.
15:34Of course.
15:35We've got to win to get more talk.
15:36Of course.
15:36But can I just say this?
15:37It's football season.
15:39We are going to the game on Thursday.
15:40I wasn't here when the guy...
15:42So we've been invited to go to the Nats with their PR guy.
15:46Is that what it is?
15:46Yes.
15:47No, no, no.
15:47He's...
15:48Think of Jim Vanstone with the Wizards and Caps.
15:52Jason is that for the Nationals.
15:54Okay, so they're big silly.
15:55Yeah.
15:55Yes.
15:56He's a big willy.
15:57What can I get from him?
15:58Can I get tickets to stuff from him?
15:59Sure.
15:59You can ask him when you're there on Thursday.
16:01Yeah.
16:02All right.
16:02You can pick his brain.
16:03So we're his guests.
16:05Yes.
16:06Does that mean we're going to sit with Taboni and all those guys in that suite?
16:09I don't think so.
16:10It's a different suite.
16:11Okay.
16:11All right.
16:12Keep the baseball and the business separate.
16:14Okay.
16:14What's the weather supposed to be?
16:15Plus, we're going at one.
16:16Is the weather supposed to be okay on Thursday?
16:17Possibility of rain.
16:18On Thursday, possibly.
16:19Possibly, yeah.
16:20Showers and maybe some thunder boomers at some point.
16:23Right.
16:23Okay.
16:23But we'll cross that bridge and we'll get to it.
16:25But Adam Peters...
16:26Yes.
16:27...on the show, Fridays at 8 o'clock.
16:29Yes, he will be our special guest.
16:30If their people are listening, junks want to do shots with Adam Peters.
16:35Let's get drunk.
16:35Hey, if Adam Peters listens, like you're saying he listens, and he's listening right now, he's
16:40welcome to give us a call right now.
16:41No, at least I have a challenge for you.
16:42This is a challenge.
16:43And you're the official show archivist and there will never be anyone alive as good as
16:47you at this.
16:47Look at that.
16:48Look at those props.
16:49How about that?
16:51I swear to you, Charlie Casserly was close to letting us make the seventh pick, seventh
16:56round pick years ago.
16:57I swear to God, he considered it.
16:59If you could find that audio to prove me right, we almost had him convinced.
17:04I don't know what to get you, but it would just prove to you that you're the official,
17:08the greatest show archivist in history.
17:09If Adam Peters lets us do that, we're going to pick the next Bill or AK-16.
17:13I'm telling you.
17:14We're going to pick a seller.
17:15I remember it vividly.
17:16He was considering it.
17:18We almost pulled the okey-doke.
17:20Yeah, I might like you to make the seventh pick, see?
17:22That was going to be in my war room.
17:24It might have been when they had the last pick of the whole thing.
17:26I don't know.
17:27Or the seventh pick.
17:27Whatever was.
17:28Yeah, yeah.
17:28All right.
17:29So, in case you missed it at the beginning of the segment, every Friday at 8 a.m.,
17:33Washington Commanders General Manager Adam Peters is going to join the Junk starting
17:38after the Week 1 opener against the Eagles.
17:41We're going to be able to pick his brain throughout the NFL season.
17:45Adam Peters, special guest on the Junk's weekly Friday.
17:48Fridays at 8 a.m.
