00:00One weather system departs but another arrives.
00:03That's the breakdown for tomorrow.
00:05Let's dive into the details.
00:06I'm Angus here at the Bureau.
00:07This is the National Weather Forecast for Wednesday the 26th of August.
00:11The focus in recent days has been on the east and the southeast.
00:14Lots of rain, a smattering of thunderstorms and the weather system driving that is drifting
00:19eastward.
00:19So we'll see some more rain in the morning but throughout the course of the day that
00:22will pull out into the ocean and we'll really have an easing pattern across this part of
00:27the country with dry weather returning.
00:28But at the same time in the west, a smaller weather system but quite a potent one through
00:34southwestern WA that's going to be bringing some heavy rainfall particularly to areas south
00:39of Perth and eventually reaching Perth itself.
00:42We will see that when we get to western Australia but as we go around the country we'll start
00:45in Queensland, some early morning rain through the Darling Downs in the southeast coast, possible
00:50storm in the mix through the early hours as well.
00:52The bulk of that rain will clear up by about 9am or so, something like that and after that
00:58we're tending towards drier weather although one or two showers could persist into the
01:02early afternoon, especially around the Brisbane Gold Coast area.
01:06Elsewhere we have a fairly mild day, mostly sunny through areas Rockhampton northwards and
01:11across the interior and the west of the state.
01:15Overnight and early morning rain for much of New South Wales as well.
01:18Well really, areas from Wollongong right up to the Queensland border.
01:21We could see some thunderstorms through the night and into the morning as well.
01:25The bulk of the rainfall here will also be easing through the course of the morning and
01:28after lunch we're probably just holding on to a couple of lighter and more sparse showers.
01:33But certainly could see a good dump of rainfall through the first half of the day.
01:38Temperature wise we're pretty standard actually for the time of year, looking at temperatures
01:41near 20 degrees along the coast including Sydney and similar inland, a little bit cooler at elevation.
01:48And all the rain from Tuesday will clear up overnight for Victoria so a much drier Wednesday
01:52headed your way.
01:54There could be a couple of showers around the Gippsland ranges here but don't expect any
01:58significant totals to accumulate.
02:01The wind will die off and the day will be fairly pleasant but it will be a little on the
02:05cool side with a lot of temperatures in the mid-teens.
02:08Melbourne has a high of 15 degrees with a light southerly but should stay dry with a little
02:13cloud cover.
02:14We will also have some cool southerly winds especially affecting southern Tasmania alongside
02:19a couple of showers.
02:20So we'll see our temperatures in the south and even in the west in that 12 to 13 degree
02:24range.
02:25We're not going to see a lot of rain in Hobart but I anticipate a couple of showers are possible
02:29almost at any stage of day.
02:31In the north of the state quite a different feel there, much warmer, much sunnier around the
02:35likes of Launceston, Devonport and Burney.
02:38And after all the rain in South Australia to begin the week, we might not record even
02:42a single drop of rainfall here on Wednesday.
02:44A much drier weather pattern sets up across the state.
02:48Temperatures are pretty standard for August in that mid to upper teens range.
02:53Adelaide tracking for a high of 17 degrees.
02:56There won't be much wind, there will be a little bit of cloud cover around but the sun should
02:59peak through from time to time as well.
03:02Alright, this is where a lot of the rainfall action is tomorrow, particularly south of Perth.
03:06So from Mandurah down to Busselton, heavy rain in the morning.
03:09We could well have a severe weather warning in play for tomorrow so definitely keep up
03:14to date with that if you live in that part of the state.
03:17As we get through the middle of the day Wednesday that rain will start to move northwards into
03:20Perth then up to Geraldton.
03:22And overnight Wednesday into Thursday that rain will push inland through the great southern
03:26and southern and central parts of the Wheatbelt.
03:29And a lot of that rain will actually be really welcome as it has been a pretty dry winter
03:33for much of the south west land division to date.
03:36But some places that rain will come in a bit too hard and fast and all at once and that's
03:40particularly the coast south of Perth where we will likely see a flash flood risk with
03:44the rain tomorrow morning.
03:46Other parts of the state further north and further inland will have a fairly settled day.
03:50But again, definitely stay up to date with the forecast and the warnings if you live in the south west.
03:56And across Australia's north, those hints of rainfall from earlier in the week around
03:59Alice Springs, Tennant Creek.
04:01That's all cleared up and moved away so we're back to dry sunny blue skies across central parts
04:07of the country.
04:08We could start to see a few coastal showers building around parts of the Kimberley, maybe
04:11western parts of the Top End as well.
04:13No big changes yet but as we move into spring they might start to become a little bit more
04:18common.
