00:00Now let's take a look at the Barnes Firm injury report brought to you by the Barnes Firm car crash.
00:05You've got to call the Barnes Firm 1-800-8-MILLION.
00:09Sal, I know that the list of guys that did not practice during the Thursday joint scrimmage or joint practice,
00:16I should say, with the Browns was pretty long.
00:19Feel free to run that down and maybe some of the other names that are of focus in terms of
00:24the injury report here.
00:26Yeah, so we've seen the same group of receivers who did not participate in that joint practice out here working
00:34with athletic trainers.
00:36That includes Khalil Shakir, Dante Pettis, who was kind of a new add to that particular group, and Skyler Bell.
00:45Did not see Keon Coleman out here working out with them, but he did not practice.
00:48I don't anticipate him playing. He's been in a walking boot.
00:50So it looks like the Bills are down those four receivers,
00:53which means today, talk about that backup quarterback competition,
00:56they don't have those guys to throw to.
00:58Not that they necessarily would if they're resting starters,
01:00but we'll see what that wide receiver group looks like.
01:02Ty Johnson, still not participating.
01:06He was out at practice with a sleeve on, walking around with his teammates,
01:10C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the same boat.
01:11I did see him a little while ago on the exercise bike down on the field.
01:15So it looks like he's at least getting a little bit more ramped up and closer, which is good news.
01:19Connor McGovern, guy that tells us he's hoping to be ready for week one,
01:24which means that that injury he has is going to linger up until then at least.
01:28But good news, I saw him down in the field also going through some exercises with the athletics training staff.
01:33So that's good news on Connor McGovern, but obviously he's not going to be playing today.
01:38Jalen Kilgore did not practice the other day for the Bills of safety.
01:41We'll see what he does today.
01:43So I think that's it.
01:44Ed Oliver did not practice not only last Tuesday, but also at the joint practice on Thursday.
01:52So there's quite a few guys that, you know, I think the Bills,
01:55they've taken more of a precautionary approach this camp to a lot of these guys.
02:00We will see if, you know, anything lingers on and continues that we have to be aware of.
02:05But if it was right now, I think most people are of the mindset of nobody's really at risk of
02:12not playing in the regular season.
02:14Like I said, the only thing with me would be Connor McGovern saying my goal is to be ready week
02:18one.
02:18I'll be ready week one, which tells me it's going to kind of come up until then around that time.
02:23So what did you see out of Skylar Bell before he got injured?
02:27You know, he's a guy that had some inconsistencies in OTAs and minicamp catching the ball.
02:33I think that any time a rookie comes in, getting on the same page of an NFL offense with your
02:39quarterback is always going to be a challenge.
02:41I thought he did a very good job of that, though, cleaning that up once training camp started.
02:46Then suddenly, you know, he has the injury.
02:47The thing about Skylar Bell is going to be opportunity, Paul, as you know,
02:51because, you know, really, the way it should flow, he would be the number five receiver.
02:58I mean, you're going to have ahead of him DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, four guys.
03:06And Skylar Bell is going to have to fit into that fifth role.
03:08And usually that fifth role includes playing special teams.
03:12That's going to be a challenge for him.
03:13And I didn't see him play many special teams because the Bills didn't do a lot of that work necessarily,
03:17you know, at training camp.
03:19And now he's been injured.
03:21He's been hurt.
03:21So he knows how to run routes.
03:24He knows how to get open.
03:25We know that.
03:26I think it's an interesting discussion about him in the slot.
03:29He can play outside.
03:30He's mostly going to be in the slot maybe when they play him.
03:32We've seen Keon Coleman move around a little bit.
03:34So we'll see exactly what their plan is for Skylar Bell.
03:37But I like a lot of the things that he brings to the table from the wide receiver standpoint.
03:44He's not an elite size guy.
03:46He's not super big.
03:47He can definitely run.
03:48He's not super fast.
03:50So DJ Moore is like that.
03:51DJ Moore is kind of the same way.
03:52And, you know, he does a lot of things really, really well, but nothing super elite.
03:57The problem with the issue for Skylar Bell is going to be having those opportunities to be able to contribute.
04:02And I just don't know if they're going to be there anytime soon outside of injuries.
04:08Sal with the injury report.
04:09The Barnes Firm injury report brought to you by the Barnes Firm.
04:12Car crash.
04:13You've got to call the Barnes Firm.
04:141-800-8-Million.
04:16We're talking about Skylar Bell and some of the other injuries, Sal, that are on the bills right now, especially
04:22at wide receiver.
04:23We've seen how the tight ends group and even the running backs have been able to contribute into the passing
04:28game.
04:29With a game like today, looking at the group of wide receivers that could be dressing and could be targets
04:36for Kyle Allen or Shane Bushell, who are some of the notable guys that might be fighting for either a
04:43roster spot, that fifth wide receiver position, or even for positions on the practice squad that maybe people will be
04:49keenly paying attention to?
04:51Yeah, well, let's start with Nicole Hardman.
04:54Well, first of all, let me say, I don't know if Joshua Palmer is going to play with that group.
04:56He could.
04:57Joshua Palmer's had a really nice camp, I thought.
04:59But he is healthy.
05:00He did practice the other day.
05:01So we'll see if Joshua Palmer's out there with him.
05:03He would be the only one of the five presumed starters, guys on the active roster, that would be out
05:09there today if that's the case.
05:10But Nicole Hardman is pushing.
05:12I think Nicole Hardman is pushing for a spot right now.
05:15He is obviously in the mix at punt returner.
05:17They do have, he does have a lot of speed that they can use.
05:22So I'd like to see him out there today, see what he can do.
05:24That's a guy that they'll be throwing to.
05:26Steven Gosnell has put together a nice camp, making some really nice plays, catching touchdown passes even from Josh Allen
05:33when there's been guys out.
05:34But, you know, uphill battle for him to make the team.
05:36But he's a really nice practice squad guy to have.
05:39He's been on the team.
05:40He's been on the practice squad last year.
05:42Here you have Trent Shurfield, who to me is like a Tyrell Shavers replacement.
05:47We don't talk about Tyrell Shavers much because he's still on the pup list and, you know, working through that
05:51torn ACL from last year in the playoff game at Jacksonville.
05:55So we'll see, you know, if Trent Shurfield is a guy that they want to keep on the roster for
06:00special teams.
06:00But he is going to be out there, I'm sure.
06:02Dante Pettis will not.
06:03Looks like he's not going to be able to play today.
06:05And then you have the guys at the very kind of end of the roster you'll definitely see out there
06:09today.
06:09Corey Macklin, Max Tomczak, Mack Delaina, Quentin Skinner.
06:14Those guys are the guys you're probably going to hear a lot from today from the wide receiver group when
06:18it comes to, you know, at least lining up if not having passes thrown to them when you get into
06:22the late third and fourth quarters.
06:24When it comes to the receivers group, Sal, how much are you really hoping to see somebody stand out in
06:30this group, especially with the injuries currently right now the group is seeing?
06:35Is this arguably the position group that you want to see the most out of in this game, especially given
06:41the fact that we're going to see a lot of depth players playing today?
06:46I don't know.
06:46I'd rather, I mean, I don't know how much you're going to get from an evaluation standpoint of, yeah, the
06:50depth is important.
06:51I think you have your presumed number, your presumed five guys.
06:55You might get one out of there.
06:57If I looked around the roster and thought, you know, what am I looking at?
07:00I think offensive line is interesting.
07:01There's some spots up there.
07:03You know, who's going to play center today?
07:05Is that Lloyd Cushenberry?
07:06Is that Cedric Van Praan Granger?
07:07There's no Connor McGovern.
07:08And then how are they going to treat left guard today with a true starting battle going on between Alec
07:13Anderson and Austin Corbett?
07:15Are either of them going to play today?
07:16Is this part of the evaluation?
07:18You might want to get them some time with a different guy on their left and a different guy on
07:21their right for the communication purposes other than Deion Dawkins and Connor McGovern when he's healthy.
07:27So that might be something.
07:28I'm also looking at the linebackers, guys.
07:30There's a linebacker competition going on.
07:32I would expect Terrell Bernard not to play, maybe Dorian Williams, but Caleb Elarmzor is a rookie.
07:37I would say that he's going to play.
07:39I would be surprised if a rookie isn't out there playing in a preseason game, even when the starters aren't,
07:44even though he is battling for a starting job.
07:46So I want to see him.
07:47I think Joe Andreessen and Keontae Jenkins both are guys fighting for spots, whether it be on the active roster,
07:55a main special teams guy.
07:56We've seen Joe Andreessen.
07:58Joe Andreessen was second in the whole league last year in special teams tackles.
08:01But I know they like Keontae Jenkins a lot.
08:02These are very interesting players and battles going on that I'm interested to watch today.
