00:00What the hell is going on where guys that are getting sacks in preseason games can possibly end up suiting
00:08up for college teams in a couple of weeks?
00:12Well, the first part about all of this is that it is confusing.
00:17It also, I wouldn't do it.
00:20I think if I were on an NFL, you know, at camp and trying to make an NFL team, I
00:25would just recognize that I am an adult now.
00:27This is the thing I am doing, not to try to come back to college.
00:31Of course it's an LSU guy, too.
00:33That's all.
00:33It's sigh.
00:36There may be more.
00:38Like, this is the thing about covering college sports these days.
00:41You know, each day changes.
00:43You're waiting on lawsuits to be filed.
00:45You're waiting on preliminary injunctions.
00:47You're looking for stays like today.
00:51And it's a world where every time I'm talking to coaches, I'm asking them, how do you navigate this where
00:58the rules and, like, the law of the land changes daily?
01:02And they say the same thing.
01:03They're just like, oh, you're just waiting for somebody to find a judge who's going to tell them they can
01:07do whatever they want to do.
01:09And that's kind of where we are right now where it's the eve of the season.
01:12And you are kind of racing the clock on some of these cases.
01:16The big news today was that the case in Colorado, which was a federal, like, class action case, that was
01:24the big one that said, basically, if you were in the class of 2022 and your eligibility was up after
01:31last year, you get a fifth year right now.
01:34Like, starting right now, that's where you had a couple of Indiana players come back and, like, rejoin the team
01:40to play again this fall and use that fifth year of eligibility.
01:42But that was essentially all the athletes that were just, like, you automatically, like, apply by being part of that
01:48class in the class action.
01:50That was rule, that preliminary injunction, the NCAA had a big win today, and it was stayed, which means all
01:57of those athletes are now not eligible to play this fall.
02:00The ones that still can are the ones that are fighting through all the different state courts and state lawsuits,
02:05which, by the way, you're probably going to have maybe a friendlier judge.
02:09That's the thinking.
02:10And that's where you're seeing, you know, again, the former NFL guys, but also just other players in other states
02:16that are fighting for that extra year of eligibility, basically just saying, like, well, the NCAA is giving five years
02:22to everybody from the class of 23 on.
02:25I want it, too.
02:26So, unless you're specifically covered by one of these state lawsuits and, like, you're named and you're in them, right
02:33now you are not eligible for this fall.
02:35So, like, they wiped out a large chunk of people today, and obviously it's not the end.
02:40We'll continue to see the NCAA is fighting all these different state courses, too, but that's where the confusion is.
02:45It's like, you know, are you named?
02:47Is it a state court?
02:49Is it a federal court?
02:51No one really knows.
02:52We're just kind of waiting.
02:53And I think even when the initial ruling came down and everyone was like, okay, this entire class is now
02:58eligible, eligible for now.
03:00I think that that's the way I keep thinking about all of these eligible for now, not eligible for now,
03:06TBD.
