00:01As the Sydney Swans saga continues to unfold, the club has declared its dedication to rebuilding
00:10trust with fans and the general public. Speaking in a press conference yesterday,
00:16Sydney Swans AFLW captain Lucy McAvoy has said her players have had open conversations in the
00:23wake of the scandal that's engulfed her club and led to five men's players being suspended
00:29for the rest of the season. Speaking on Friday afternoon, she said the women's program
00:34supports the sanctions imposed on Isaac Heaney, Nick Blakey, Chad Warner, Riley Bice and James
00:41Jordan, saying their actions did not reflect the Swans as a club. There's no doubt that the club
00:48has taken a reputational hit this week and we'll do whatever we can as a club in both programs to
00:54make sure we build back the trust and respect of our members and fans and the community more broadly.
00:59The comments by the Swans' women's team comes after the Swans' men's captain Callum Mills and coach
01:05Dean Cox fronted the media on Friday, unreservedly apologising for what they say is flatly disappointing behaviour.
01:15We take these allegations extremely seriously and we hope the women involved are getting all the
01:21support they deserve. We're really disappointed of the actions of these five players and as a playing
01:27group we fully support the club's decision on the sanctions handed down. We take full responsibility
01:34and we are deeply sorry.
01:36With still so many unanswered questions in this unfolding saga, it's really cast a dark shadow
01:44over what was supposed to be a historic weekend for the football club, specifically for the AFLW team.
01:52Set to take to the SCG for the first time in years tomorrow, ahead of a men's game later in
01:57the day.
01:58But now, this doubleheader, which had been heralded as a real moment of pride for the women's team,
02:04will take place under the shadow of the bad behaviour of a few of their men's team counterparts.
