Congress Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Randeep Surjewala, and Jairam Ramesh, conducted a five-hour sit-in protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi. The demonstration demanded a First Information Report for Sahil Lochab, an alleged pellet gun victim from student protests. Delhi Police subsequently registered an FIR against unknown persons regarding the incident, despite earlier statements that the matter was sub judice under a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Meanwhile, former Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized Gandhi's protest as a maneuver to divert attention from controversy surrounding Vande Mataram, while defending government measures on exam paper leaks and parliamentary discussions. Concurrently in Jaipur’s Rampura village, stone pelting and clashes occurred during a visit by Ashutosh Ranka and the Cockroach Janata Party for their 'School Thik Karo' campaign at a government primary school. The CJP alleged BJP involvement in the violence, while local residents objected to external interference regarding local educational infrastructure.

00:13the parliament street police station here in the national capital congress is now releasing video
00:18of what happened inside the police station as well rahul has demanded fir in the alleged use
00:24of pellet gun case and this video has just come out so let's look into it
00:32oh

00:45hey
00:46yeah

00:53We are going to DCP office.
01:22it's because he is requesting an
01:25no no no he is requesting an individual
01:31for this bullet for the bullet injuries okay very simple you are not doing it
01:37sir okay let's do
01:39i will go outside i will sit there until the file is
01:46i will sit there one day two days three days five days ten days
01:49okay
02:05oh
02:28All right, so let's cut across straight to what's been happening on the ground.
02:32Like we said, four hours and counting in Rahul's Dharna 2.0
02:35is playing out outside the Parliament Street police station.
02:38Let me cut across to my colleague Rahul Gautam, Aishwarya Paliwal and Srishti Oja as well.
02:44Rahul, if I can come to you first.
02:47Help us understand what was the latest trigger.
02:51How suddenly today Rahul Gandhi ended up at the police station.
02:55Was it a surprise protest like last time around?
03:05Absolutely, it was a surprise protest.
03:07And it seemed that Rahul Gandhi and Congress had realized that, you know,
03:12we should stop news leakage.
03:14And that's only, it creates hype in media as well.
03:18And that's why we saw this morning Rahul Gandhi coming along with Sahil Lochap,
03:23who claims to be a pellet gun victim, all the way to the Parliament Street police station.
03:28Initially, first they went to Mandir Mark police station,
03:31but there they were turned away saying that the concerned DCP will take the call.
03:34They came here, met DCP.
03:36And Rahul Gandhi insisted that an FIR should be filed on the complaint of Sahil Lochap.
03:42Now, given the fact that Delhi police had said, or they have argued that there is already an SIT,
03:48you know, which has been constituted by the directions of Supreme Court,
03:52which is, there are multiple FIRs which are still pending.
03:54Therefore, this matter is subjured.
03:56Yes, we cannot really register an FIR or separate FIR on our own.
04:01However, Rahul Gandhi said that, you know, that there is a medical legal certificate from Lady Harding Hospital.
04:09On 14th of August also, this person, Sahil Lochap, had gone to police station to file the complaint,
04:14but again he was turned away.
04:16So, therefore, he was left with no other option but to take, you know, political support.
04:20And that's why, and Sahil Lochap, remember,
04:23the same person with which Rahul Gandhi also held a press conference at his residence in Janpath.
04:28And, in fact, on that day he showed injury, alleged injuries from the pallet gun.
04:32So, clearly, it seems that Rahul Gandhi is only increasing the heat
04:36and also bringing the whole narrative back on students' protest.
04:41Remember, for past few days we've been hearing a controversy that we're brewing around Vande Mantram.
04:47It seems that Rahul Gandhi's Congress party is bringing the political narrative back on students' protest.
04:52And that's why you see this dharna is still continuing.
04:55And they're saying that they'll not budge until an FIR is registered in this regard.
05:00All right.
05:00Aishwarya Palaewal is also with us.
05:02So, Srishti Oja, I'll come to Srishti in just a bit.
05:04But, Aishwarya, this is Rahul Gandhi's street fighter avatar, is it?
05:09I'm seeing off late more and more of these surprise protests come out.
05:13But, unlike the last time around where he landed up at the doorstep of the Prime Minister
05:17and you immediately had, you know, the senior ministers like J.P. Inadda, like Jitendra Singh,
05:24come to him and say that, you know, this is not the way, let's, like, talk about it.
05:27The issue is the same, right?
05:29The issue is the same, that he wants the government to take accountability
05:33on why action and the alleged pallet guns were used on students.
05:37That issue had first taken, been taken to the parliament, now it's landed up at the police station.
05:44How is the BJP responding to this?
05:47Well, you know, Sonal, you rightly pointed out, we are seeing a more aggressive,
05:51a street fighter avatar of Rahul Gandhi.
05:53And it seems like, Sonal, you know, he's quite starting to enjoy this
05:57because we are seeing how calm he is and he was all set, all ready to, in fact, sit on
06:01the floor.
06:02And let me also tell you, there are pictures coming out where one can very clearly see Rahul Gandhi
06:06with folded hands, speaking with the constable who, in fact, had come out to speak with him.
06:10The Bhakti Janata Party, however, Sonal, let me tell you, says that this is all Canberra GV Rahul Gandhi.
06:15They are saying that when there is an investigation which is already taking place
06:20with regards to what had happened on the 20th of July,
06:23what is the need for Rahul Gandhi to do all this drama?
06:26Drama is the word, let me tell you, Sonal, that is now being used by the BJP
06:30to categorically say that this is being done by Rahul Gandhi
06:33because he only wants his pictures to be clicked.
06:35He is not doing it for the students.
06:37He, in fact, is not doing it for justice.
06:39So this is what the Bhakti Janata Party and the top leadership at the moment believes in.
06:42All right, let me cut across to Srishti Ojha as well.
06:45Srishti, give me a sense of who all are there.
06:47Again, I'm trying to draw a parallel from the last time around the protests happened.
06:51We saw chief ministers there.
06:52We saw senior leaders of the Congress Party all turn up.
06:56Today, in the visuals at least, that we see Rahul Gandhi, we see Priyanka Gandhi Wadra,
07:00we see a couple of lawyers who are trying to sort of talk to the police
07:03to get the FIA registered. Who else is there?
07:05Is it just purely a Congress protest or you see more galvanization happen?
07:16Well, Sonam, it's been almost five hours that Rahul Gandhi has been here
07:20outside the DCP office at the Parliament Street Police Station.
07:24Even now, in the morning, it started off with Rahul Gandhi coming here
07:28with the alleged pellet gun victim, Sahil, his mother, his lawyer.
07:33And eventually after that, once he decided to sit outside in a dharna after
07:38an FIA wasn't registered in this case, we saw senior Congress leaders also join
07:44in this particular dharna protest outside the DCP office.
07:48We saw many Congress workers raising slogans outside the police station in the morning
07:57after Rahul Gandhi was here.
07:58We eventually also saw them push through the gate, enter the police station.
08:02Right behind me, you can see the visuals, the crowd.
08:05They're still here chanting, raising slogans, etc.
08:09Now, coming back to the senior Congress leaders, we saw senior Congress leaders...
08:13Let me understand, what kind of slogans are you hearing?
08:16He's also sitting with Rahul Gandhi at the sit-in.
08:24Well, the Congress workers have been raising slogans all day,
08:28firstly saying that they're with Rahul Gandhi on this particular issue,
08:34that Rahul Gandhi should move forward with this particular complaint,
08:38with this particular thing, and they will support him as their leader.
08:42There are also slogans being raised against the central government,
08:45for the inaction, for the violence used against protesters.
08:49Now, these are the Congress workers who have come here to support their leader.
08:52When we spoke to senior leader Salman Khushi today morning,
08:56when he entered here at the police station,
08:58we asked him that an HPC has already been constituted by the Supreme Court in this case.
09:03Why this demand right now, one day after the order has come in?
09:06Could this not have waited?
09:07This demand for an FIR, could it not have waited?
09:09Because the Supreme Court thought it fit,
09:12instead of directing registration of an FIR straight up,
09:15the Supreme Court thought it fit for an expert committee,
09:17for a high-powered committee to probe into all the allegations first.
09:20Why not wait?
09:21He gave a very simple reply that as citizens,
09:24a person has a right to demand registration of an FIR,
09:26as long as there is a cognizable offense,
09:28an FIR should be registered.
09:30Their demands right now are very clear.
09:32Rahul Gandhi and the other Congress leaders will not leave,
09:35unless and until an FIR in this case is registered.
09:38Delhi Police, as per our sources,
09:39has clearly told them that it's the crime branch,
09:43which is handling or probing into the FIRs related to the protests.
09:47They have received the complaint filed by Sahil.
09:50They will transfer it to the crime branch.
09:53And also, they've told Rahul Gandhi that an HPC has been constituted,
09:56which will be probing into the allegation.
09:58He'll have to wait and watch to see
10:00how long would these Congress leaders continue to sit here.
10:04But according to them,
10:05they will not get up on this and underline FIR's register.
10:07Back to you.
10:08All right.
10:08This is a really interesting scenario,
10:10because, and I want viewers to understand this,
10:12this is right outside the Parliament Street police station.
10:16There is an entire battery of policemen inside.
10:21There are enough and more policemen to evacuate them if required,
10:25but they're choosing not to do that just yet.
10:27Rahul Gandhi, four hours and counting,
10:30along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra,
10:32along with the victims of the pellet gun injuries,
10:35and a couple of lawyers are insisting that an FIR be registered.
10:39You're now getting live visuals.
10:41What you see right there in the center are live visuals.
10:44Rahul Gandhi comfortable in his chair
10:46and saying, I'm not going anywhere.
10:48I want this FIR registered.
10:50And what you see on the other side of your screen over there
10:53is on the right side of the screen really for you.
10:56Those are visuals from earlier.
10:57When he was inside the police station.
10:59Remember, this is not the first stop for him.
11:01He first went to Mandir Mark,
11:02where he was told that he has to go to a higher officer, DCP.
11:05The area DCP sits at the Parliament Street police station,
11:09and that's where Rahul Gandhi is at the moment.
11:12Talking to people, talking to his consultants,
11:15talking to a couple of Gen Z also,
11:16from what I can see in those live visuals over there.
11:19So interesting to see which way this goes.
11:21Like I said, four hours and counting.
11:24Rahul Gandhi right at the doorstep of Delhi police, DCP.
11:28What happens next will be interesting to watch out for.
11:40And it's a trend now, right?
11:42Instant justice.
11:43You want something, you go there, you demand, you ask for it,
11:46you raise a dharna, you make a couple of reels, and there you go.
11:49And that is not how it started.
11:51At least the senior leaders now are taking a cue from it.
11:54It all started with the CJP, if you'll recall.
11:57And this time, it has got to do with CJP's,
12:00the Kokrojanta Party's School Thikaro campaign.
12:03We told you about this campaign,
12:04that the Kokrojanta Party has started on the 15th of August,
12:07saying that they will be going to every school,
12:10inspecting on different counts
12:12on what is the condition of that school,
12:14and then preparing a report card of sorts
12:16of what is exactly required.
12:18But once Ashutosh Ranka,
12:21one of the spokesperson and key members
12:23of the Kokrojanta Party,
12:24ended up in Jaipur,
12:26in fact, on the outskirts of Jaipur,
12:28at the Rampura, Kavarpura village,
12:30it turned out to be a very different story.
12:32So far, every school they had gone to,
12:34they were received with open arms,
12:36students were telling them about their complaints,
12:38teachers were talking to them as well.
12:40But in this particular school,
12:42as you see,
12:43as Ashutosh is walking in,
12:45you see protesters on the other side as well.
12:49Now, who are these protesters?
12:50That's the big story over here.
12:52Are they locals?
12:53Are they villagers?
12:54Are they BJP people?
12:56As CJP is now saying,
12:58we do not know.
12:59We do not have an independent,
13:01you know,
13:01clarification on that just yet.
13:03But what we do know
13:04is that there were clashes,
13:06clashes that included stone pelting.
13:09That means car shields were broken down.
13:12You saw those visuals over there,
13:13that car going away
13:14without the back,
13:16you know,
13:17glass over there.
13:18So the entire story took a very,
13:21very ugly turn.
13:22You see stones being pelted
13:24at the CJP delegation,
13:25which had reached there
13:26from the locals.
13:28I'm again highlighting
13:29who are these locals?
13:30We do not know.
13:31Their identity is not known just yet.
13:34The CJP is alleging
13:35that they are from the BJP.
13:37Now,
13:38this has meant
13:40that there was a series of exchange
13:41and the video obviously
13:42went viral online.
13:43The sequence,
13:44if I can just remind that to you,
13:46began around 8 a.m.
13:47when CJP workers arrived
13:48at the Rampula village.
13:50At 8.30,
13:50villagers had gathered
13:51outside the government school
13:52and a scuffle of sorts
13:53broke out between the two sides.
13:55It looked like everybody
13:56knew what was happening
13:57because CJP was walking in
13:59with their cameras on.
14:00On the other side,
14:01you had the locals
14:02having their cameras on as well.
14:04So it was a situation
14:05that was waiting to happen.
14:07Then at around 10 a.m.,
14:08we have CJP spokesperson
14:10Ashutosh Ranka arriving there
14:11and the confrontation escalates
14:14with Ranka and his team
14:15now alleging
14:16that they were assaulted.
14:17The CJP team says
14:18that it had come
14:18to inspect the government
14:19primary school
14:20like I told you
14:21about that campaign
14:22and the school building
14:23is reportedly
14:24in a dilapidated condition.
14:26Children have been shifted out
14:27to the main structure
14:28with classes being
14:29conducted in a buffalo shed.
14:32Again, not authenticated by us.
14:34This is something
14:35that the CJP is saying.
14:37Cutting back to CJP,
14:38CJP says that the inspection
14:40was aimed at documenting
14:41the condition
14:42and raising questions
14:43over the safety
14:44and infrastructure availability
14:45of the students.
14:47And then,
14:48that is where
14:49the political battle begins.
14:50BJP accusing that CJP,
14:53in fact, the CJP accusing
14:54that BJP workers
14:55were orchestrating the assault.
14:57It alleges that its volunteers
14:59were attacked,
15:00Ashutosh Ranka was roughed up
15:01and that violence
15:02had a political motive.
15:04Ranka has also alleged
15:06that the attack happened
15:07at the behest
15:08of Rajasthan
15:08Education Minister
15:10and questioned
15:11why the police
15:12allowed the confrontation
15:13to even unfold.
15:15Now, these are serious
15:15allegations
15:16and the responsibility
15:17for establishing the facts
15:19lies with the investigators
15:21in this case.
15:22at the moment,
15:24their stance to be,
15:25this is the only information
15:27that one can say
15:29at this point.
15:30What we do know
15:31at this point
15:32is that
15:35their stance is blunt.
15:36They do not want
15:37outsiders entering the village
15:39that's coming in
15:40from the villagers
15:41and disrupting local atmosphere.
15:43They also say
15:43that the school issue
15:44will be resolved locally
15:46and they claim
15:47about 12,50,000 rupees
15:49has already been sanctioned
15:51by the village
15:52to maintain that place.
16:07Alright, for the moment
16:08let's take a break
16:08from what's happening
16:09right now
16:10and cut across
16:10to my colleague
16:11Gaurav Sawant
16:12who's got a special guest
16:13for you.
16:19Sir Rahul Gandhi
16:21has taken a pellet gun
16:22with him
16:23to the Parliament Street
16:24police station
16:24demanding an FIR
16:26be registered.
16:27We're waiting
16:28for an FIR
16:29to be registered.
16:30This is now
16:31politics between
16:32the government
16:33and the opposition
16:34and joining me now
16:35is Smriti Irani
16:38National General Secretary
16:39of the Bharatiya Janata Party
16:41also former
16:42Union Cabinet
16:42Foreign Minister
16:43former Minister
16:44for Education
16:45Smriti Rani
16:46welcome.
16:46Rahul Gandhi
16:47is at the police station.
16:49He's demanding
16:50an FIR.
16:51Leader of Opposition
16:52demanding an FIR
16:53because the pellet gun
16:54victim says
16:54twice he went
16:56FIR wasn't registered.
16:59An FIR is a right
17:00why is that
17:00not being registered
17:01ma'am?
17:02The Congress asks.
17:03Gaurav,
17:03you are a seasoned
17:04journalist
17:05and you know
17:05that an investigation
17:06is already underway.
17:08You're a seasoned
17:08journalist and you know
17:09that the police
17:10has already received
17:11and accepted the
17:12complaint.
17:13You're a seasoned
17:13journalist who knows
17:14that the Supreme Court
17:15has opined on the issue
17:16and ordered a probe.
17:19Now,
17:19in the absence
17:21of a political shield
17:23that will stem
17:25the outrage
17:25that erupted
17:26from the
17:27Vande Matram
17:28controversy,
17:29Rahul Gandhi
17:29thought that this
17:30is the definite
17:31moment where he
17:32could use this
17:32political stunt
17:33because if he
17:34truly believed
17:35in the pursuit
17:36of justice,
17:36Mr. Savan,
17:37he would not be
17:38chucking toffees
17:39as he sat outside
17:40the police station
17:40at people who
17:42have surrounded him.
17:43He would not be
17:44giggling,
17:45heckling.
17:45He would be
17:46absolutely serious
17:47to demand justice
17:48not only for citizens
17:50but also paramilitary
17:51personnel and police
17:52force personnel
17:53who were beaten
17:54and injured.
17:55Have you heard
17:56the leader of
17:56opposition once
17:57ask for an
17:59investigation
18:00into the attack
18:01on uniformed
18:02personnel?
18:03For the pursuit
18:04of justice
18:04in this case
18:05cannot be complete
18:06if we don't
18:07stand up for
18:08uniformed
18:08personnel as well.
18:10Has the leader
18:11of opposition
18:12spoken once
18:15about men
18:16and women
18:16in uniform
18:17who were
18:18attacked?
18:19Okay.
18:20I'll come to
18:21men and women
18:22in uniform
18:22who were attacked
18:23because this is
18:23something that
18:25those who say
18:26that the security
18:27forces or the
18:27police targeted
18:28protesters,
18:29they do not
18:30even seem to
18:31acknowledge
18:31this aspect
18:33and that's a
18:33very important
18:33point to raise
18:34but the point
18:35Rahul Gandhi
18:37is raising
18:37or the opposition
18:38is raising
18:39is that
18:40the government
18:40is not even
18:41serious about
18:42addressing the
18:43concerns they
18:44have raised.
18:46The home minister
18:47hasn't responded
18:48Rahul Gandhi
18:49asked
18:49neither in
18:51parliament
18:51nor out of
18:52it.
18:52No,
18:53that is wrong.
18:54The home minister
18:54has very vehemently
18:56stood in parliament
18:58from ISIS
18:58said he's ready
18:59for a discussion.
19:00It is a congress
19:01that did not
19:01accept that
19:02stand of the
19:03home minister.
19:04The home minister
19:05in fact
19:06appealed
19:07publicly
19:07that the
19:09congress party
19:09come and
19:10speak to him
19:10on the
19:10floor of the
19:11house.
19:11That he's
19:12willing to
19:12hear every
19:13statement,
19:14every position
19:14taken by the
19:15opposition so
19:16that he can
19:17give the facts
19:18with regards to
19:19this particular
19:19issue.
19:20It is the
19:20congress party
19:21that did not
19:22want to have a
19:22conversation or
19:24a dialogue or
19:25a debate or a
19:26deliberation on
19:27this issue in the
19:28Indian parliament.
19:29The home minister
19:29never shied away.
19:31The government
19:31never shied away.
19:32The government
19:33repeatedly during
19:34the parliamentary
19:35session that
19:36was underway
19:37just a few
19:38days ago
19:39emphatically
19:40stated that
19:41let the
19:41congress have
19:42a discussion
19:42on the
19:43floor of the
19:43house on
19:43any issue
19:44that it
19:44deems fit.
19:45It did not
19:46want a
19:46discussion.
19:47It wanted
19:47a disruption.
19:49Today what
19:50Rawan Gandhi
19:51is doing is
19:54deviating attention
19:54from the
19:55Vande Matram
19:56row.
19:57I will come
19:57to the
19:58Vande Matram
19:58controversy and
19:59that's a very
20:00serious point
20:01once again.
20:02The congress
20:03says they will
20:03sing only
20:04two stanzas.
20:05The government
20:05insists.
20:06Who is the
20:06congress to
20:07decide when
20:08the parliament
20:08has opined on
20:09the issue?
20:11Who is the
20:12congress to
20:12decide when
20:13in the
20:13constituent
20:14assembly in
20:141950 Rajendra
20:15Palsarji says
20:16that Vande
20:17Matram is to
20:18be given the
20:18same respect as
20:20Janagana Mana?
20:23Are you
20:24telling me that
20:26once the
20:26parliament of
20:27India opines
20:27on a particular
20:28issue and
20:28legislates on
20:29it, Sonia
20:30Gandhi has the
20:31unique right in
20:32this country to
20:33throw that
20:33legislation in
20:34the dustbin of
20:35time?
20:38And what
20:39did they
20:39dissuade people
20:40from singing in
20:41the congress
20:42headquarters?
20:43What are those
20:43stanzas pertaining
20:44to Mr.
20:45Saman?
20:46Those
20:46stanzas say we
20:48look at
20:48Mahabharati as a
20:49source of
20:49knowledge.
20:50Does Sonia
20:51Gandhi deny
20:52that?
20:52We look at
20:53Mahabharati as
20:54something that we
20:55keep devotedly in
20:56our hearts.
20:57We look at
20:58Mahabharati as a
21:00manifestation of
21:01our Rashtradharm.
21:02We look at
21:03Mahabharati as a
21:04source of
21:05strength.
21:05We look at
21:06Mahabharati as a
21:07nourisher of our
21:08children.
21:10We look at
21:10Mahabharati as we
21:12look upon
21:12Mahabharati bearing
21:14ten arms in her
21:16ten hands.
21:17We look at
21:18Mahabharati as a
21:19source of
21:19Samridhi like
21:20Mahalakshmi.
21:22So what is it
21:23that Mrs.
21:23Gandhi has a
21:24problem with
21:25Mahabharati or
21:26Goddess Durga?
21:27What is it that
21:28the Congress
21:28Party has a
21:29problem with?
21:30Mahabharati or
21:31Goddess Lakshmi?
21:32What is it that
21:32the Congress
21:33Party has a
21:33problem with?
21:35Mahabharati or
21:35Goddess Saraswati?
21:36What is it that
21:37the Congress
21:37Party has a
21:38problem with?
21:39Mahabharati being
21:39a source of
21:40knowledge or
21:40power?
21:42Or that it may
21:43be in conflict
21:43with religion
21:44perhaps of some
21:47Indians, some
21:48people?
21:49How is it that
21:50the first two
21:50stanzas are not
21:51in conflict with
21:52anybody?
21:53When we say
21:54Vande Mataram,
21:55salutations to the
21:56mother.
21:59Those who were
22:00against Vande
22:00Mataram and
22:01wanted to walk
22:02the path of
22:02Jinnah left and
22:03created Pakistan.
22:04Those who stayed
22:05back knew Vande
22:06Mataram is a
22:08war cry for
22:09independence by
22:10Indians who did
22:11not all belong to
22:12the Congress
22:12Party.
22:13Even the Gandhi
22:14family did not
22:14belong to the
22:15Congress Party.
22:16They usurped the
22:17Congress Party
22:17under their
22:18titleage.
22:20So how can
22:21they claim today
22:22that they have
22:23the rights to
22:23our national
22:24song?
22:24So if a
22:25decision was
22:26taken in
22:261937 the
22:27Congress asked
22:28to say only
22:29two stanzas...
22:29Hang on, you
22:30know how many
22:30decisions the
22:31Congress Party
22:31took under
22:33Nehru's leadership?
22:34Mohammed Ali
22:35Jinnah put
22:36forth 14 points
22:37for Nehru to
22:38consider.
22:38There is a
22:38communication
22:39correspondence
22:40between Nehru
22:40and Jinnah
22:41which I think
22:42if you can
22:42look at the
22:43records from
22:43the Nehru
22:44archives between
22:441937 and
22:451939, in
22:461938, Nehru
22:48writes to
22:48Jinnah saying
22:49in point number
22:50seven, you want
22:51cow slaughter.
22:52As a response
22:53to it, Nehru
22:54accedes to that
22:54demand.
22:55Is Sonia
22:56Gandhi today
22:56of the opinion
22:57that cow slaughter
22:58should be
22:58legitimized in
22:59this country?
23:00Can she say
23:01this from the
23:01Congress headquarters?
23:03Can she?
23:06That's Nehru's
23:07stand.
23:08In 1923, in
23:10Kakinala, there
23:10was a session
23:11where Siddhar
23:12Patel was in
23:13the session where
23:13Jinnah called for
23:14Vande Matram not
23:16to be sanned.
23:17A Marathi
23:18singer got up
23:20and spoke up
23:21against Jinnah
23:22and said this
23:22is a national
23:23platform, not
23:24a platform of
23:25a particular
23:25religion, and
23:27Vande Matram
23:27shall be sung.
23:28Is Congress
23:29of the opinion
23:29that that one
23:31Marathi soul
23:31singer had the
23:32courage that
23:33Nehru did not
23:34to stand up
23:35against Jinnah?
23:36Who had to
23:37go with Jinnah
23:37with Pakistan,
23:38he had to go
23:38with Pakistan.
23:39What will the
23:46government do
23:47if the Congress
23:48continues to
23:49stick to that
23:49CWC decision
23:50and say we'll
23:51only sing two
23:52stanzas?
23:52Is that in
23:53violation of the
23:54law?
23:54The Congress
23:55party has shown
23:55two things,
23:56Mr. Savant.
23:57One, a complete
23:58disregard for
23:59national sentiment.
24:00Two, a complete
24:01disregard for the
24:03sentiments of
24:04Hindus.
24:05Has the Congress
24:06party ever insulted
24:07any other religion
24:08except Hinduism?
24:11In the national
24:12headquarters of the
24:13Congress party,
24:14those people
24:15who are
24:15bhaagwati ka
24:16apmaan kar rahe
24:17hai, jo
24:17lakshmi ki
24:18vandana rok
24:19rahe hai, jo
24:19saraswati ki
24:20vandana rok
24:21rahe hai, wo
24:21apna gotra
24:22chunau mein
24:22na bataye.
24:24Okay, ma'am,
24:25even as we
24:26speak, the
24:26Delhi police,
24:27they have
24:28registered an
24:29FIR, but if
24:30you see, 14th
24:32when that victim
24:32went, FIR was
24:33not registered,
24:3417th it was
24:35not registered,
24:36now when leader
24:37of opposition goes
24:38with the victim
24:39to the police
24:39station, the
24:40Delhi police have
24:41registered an
24:42FIR.
24:43that point
24:44that is being
24:45raised is,
24:46street forces
24:47the government,
24:48street forces
24:49the government
24:50to act.
24:50I have no
24:51access to the
24:52FIR, but the
24:54one thing you
24:55can confirm,
24:55Mr. Savant,
24:56for me is
24:57this, has
24:58Rahul Gandhi
24:59filed a separate
25:00FIR to
25:01investigate who
25:02beat up
25:03paramilitary and
25:03Delhi police?
25:05Can you
25:06please confirm
25:06to me whether
25:07Rahul Gandhi,
25:08since he's seated
25:09there at that
25:10very police station,
25:11has he filed
25:12an FIR as
25:13an individual
25:13citizen to
25:14say, I am
25:15outraged that
25:16somebody at
25:17Jantar Mantar
25:18hit Delhi
25:19police, hit
25:20paramilitary
25:21forces, has
25:22Rahul Gandhi
25:22filed an FIR
25:23separately to
25:24say, investigate
25:25such people and
25:27throw the book of
25:28law at them?
25:31Can you
25:32confirm for me,
25:32Mr. Savant,
25:33has Rahul Gandhi
25:34filed such an
25:35FIR?
25:36That's a
25:37pertinent point.
25:38If he is
25:40indeed pursuing
25:41justice, can
25:43he pursue
25:43justice
25:44piecemeal?
25:47The BJP is
25:48accusing him,
25:49party leaders
25:49have accused him
25:50of being a
25:51camera GV.
25:52The fact that
25:53before Rahul
25:54Gandhi got
25:54there today,
25:55an investigation
25:56was also
25:57already underway,
25:59can that be
26:00denied?
26:02Yes, an
26:03investigation was
26:04underway.
26:05Can an
26:05investigation be
26:06underway, Mr.
26:07Savant?
26:08You've been a
26:08journalist long
26:09enough to
26:10today, confirm
26:11this to the
26:11viewers.
26:12Can an
26:13investigation be
26:14underway if
26:15the government
26:15or agency do
26:16not take
26:17cognizance of
26:18complaints?
26:20Can it?
26:21No, a
26:22complaint has
26:23to be filed
26:24and a
26:24cognizance
26:25taken.
26:26There is a
26:27cognizance of
26:28a particular
26:29complaint, verbal
26:30or written.
26:31Hence, an
26:31investigation is
26:32underway.
26:33So, can
26:34Rahul Gandhi
26:35today politically
26:35claim that he
26:36went and hence
26:37investigation ensued?
26:38No.
26:39Because if the
26:40purpose of an
26:40FIR or a
26:41complaint is
26:42investigation ensues,
26:44is transparently
26:45done and
26:45evidence presented,
26:46then did the
26:47government or the
26:48agency concerned
26:49fulfill its legal
26:50obligation to the
26:51state and its
26:53citizens?
26:54Yes.
26:56But my
26:57question as a
26:57citizen again of
26:58the leader of
26:59opposition is
26:59this.
27:00You want to
27:01pursue justice,
27:01can I please
27:02see your FIR to
27:04investigate who
27:05gave slogans
27:06against the
27:06Indian army?
27:08Can I please
27:09see Rahul Gandhi's
27:10FIR on who
27:12hit Delhi police
27:13personnel?
27:14Can I please
27:15see Rahul Gandhi's
27:15FIR on who
27:17hit paramilitary
27:18forces?
27:20But that FIR
27:21already is being
27:23investigated, that
27:24investigation is
27:25already underway.
27:26So was this so
27:27far incident?
27:29Okay, but the
27:31core of this
27:32issue was a
27:33paper leak.
27:34A paper leak.
27:36Ma'am, you've
27:36been a union
27:37minister and you've
27:38been minister for
27:39education and I
27:42know you were
27:42making efforts and
27:43an effort was being
27:44made to have a
27:45structure where
27:46paper leaks would
27:47not happen and
27:48yet paper leaks
27:49continue to
27:50happen.
27:50Isn't that a
27:51major issue where
27:52the government
27:53It is an issue
27:53the prime minister
27:54has addressed.
27:56Do you accept
27:57it?
27:57Yes, he called
27:58it sin.
27:59It is an issue
28:01addressed not only
28:02by making up the
28:03task force but also
28:03legislatively by
28:05bringing a new
28:05bill.
28:06Do you accept?
28:07I've been education
28:08minister from 2014-15.
28:11I've had the
28:12privilege under the
28:13prime minister's
28:14direction of creating
28:14the new education
28:15policy consultant
28:17consultation across
28:18the country.
28:19I wrote to every
28:21parliamentarian which
28:22included Rahul Gandhi.
28:23In my two years as
28:24minister of education,
28:25Mr. Gandhi never
28:26came up and offered
28:27any productive
28:28suggestions to say
28:30let's sit together and
28:30see how can we
28:31better the system.
28:33Today the prime
28:33minister creates a
28:34task force which
28:35includes somebody who
28:36fought an election
28:37against him in 2014
28:38on a congress ticket.
28:40But the congress
28:40party does not accept
28:42that the prime
28:42minister is not being
28:43myopic.
28:44He has assimilated
28:45every point of view
28:46into that task force.
28:48Can we say the same
28:49about the leader of
28:49opposition?
28:50I have had the
28:51privilege of serving
28:52as member of
28:53parliament from
28:53Amiti.
28:54The same place where
28:55Rahul Gandhi was
28:56also an MP from.
28:57This is a
28:58constituency where
29:00we've had two
29:01prime ministers and
29:02Rahul Gandhi was a
29:03sitting president of
29:04the Indian National
29:04Congress.
29:06In that time when I
29:07got the responsibility
29:08we had children
29:10sitting on the
29:11floor without a
29:12bench or a chair
29:13in a constituency
29:15where the Gandhi
29:16Khandan ruled for
29:17over 60 years.
29:18So I can also
29:20point your attention
29:21to a land taken
29:23by the Gandhi
29:26family saying we
29:27will open up a
29:28medical college
29:28here, land which
29:30belongs to the
29:30people of this
29:31country and they
29:33have also ensured
29:34that they've built
29:35a private residence
29:37guest house of the
29:38Gandhi family, not
29:39the medical college.
29:40Who's building that
29:41medical college?
29:42The Modi
29:42government.
29:43So if I have to
29:44productively evidence
29:46who has contributed
29:47towards making
29:48systems robust, there's
29:50only one person I can
29:52evidence it with, that
29:53is the Modi
29:53government.
29:56Education is an issue
29:57where we help build
29:58the future of our
29:59country.
30:00Could Mr. Gandhi have
30:01not found the time or
30:02the inclination to
30:03collaborate on this
30:04issue?
30:05Did you see him
30:06productively give
30:09inputs on the bill
30:10that was discussed
30:10in parliament?
30:12Did you see him
30:13approach the task
30:14force that the
30:14prime minister has
30:15set up to say
30:16this is my
30:17contribution to how
30:18to make the
30:18systems technologically
30:19more robust?
30:22No.
30:23So has the leader
30:24of opposition
30:25conducted himself
30:26responsibly when it
30:27came to issues of
30:28policy and fixing the
30:30system and making
30:31it more robust?
30:33But you do concede
30:34that the system
30:35needs fixing and
30:36especially the
30:37Did you see people
30:38under whose regime
30:40Pippalix took place
30:42sitting next to those
30:43people in Jantar
30:44Mantar?
30:48Did you see Mr.
30:49Gandhi go and give
30:50a dhana outside the
30:51CM Jharkhand's
30:52residence so that he
30:53can be picked up for
30:54a photo op?
30:55Did you see Mr.
30:56Rahul Gandhi take away
30:58support from the
30:58Jharkhand government?
31:02Did you see Mr.
31:03Gandhi go to
31:04Karnataka?
31:05Did you see Mr.
31:06Gandhi raise the
31:07issue of paper leak
31:08in Kerala?
31:11So for you, you're
31:12saying that all that
31:13he's doing is for the
31:14camera?
31:15I am not saying it.
31:16He's doing it.
31:20Okay.
31:21Let me for a moment
31:22now switch focus to
31:24Vande Matram and you
31:25did raise that issue.
31:27Vande Matram, why is
31:29it important whether
31:29only two stanzas are
31:31sung or six?
31:32Isn't the more
31:33important issue that
31:34there is peace in the
31:36country, there is
31:37peace and that nobody
31:38feels that they are
31:39being discriminated
31:40against is the point
31:42that the opposition
31:43has raised.
31:43My issue is are you
31:45telling me if I pay
31:47salutations to my
31:48motherland, there will
31:49be disturbance?
31:52Are you telling me
31:53there will be political
31:54disturbance and issues
31:56of law and order?
31:57if I say I look upon
31:59my motherland as a
32:00source of knowledge?
32:02Are you telling me
32:03there will be a
32:04particular subsection
32:06of the Congress
32:07vote bank that will
32:08be very displeased if
32:10I say I look upon my
32:11motherland as I would
32:13look upon my
32:14bhagwati?
32:15They're saying it's
32:16in direct...
32:17Then why say the
32:18word Vande Matram also?
32:19In 1937, that is what
32:22the resolution also
32:23seemed to indicate is
32:24the Congress point of
32:25view.
32:25What is the Congress
32:26resolution?
32:28There is a complete
32:30written record of Nehru
32:31saying that the
32:33position taken by
32:34Mohammed Ali Jannah is
32:35communal.
32:37There is a particular
32:38statement of the same
32:40kind given by
32:40Subhash Chandra boss.
32:43There is the 1923
32:45Kaki Nara session.
32:46But if you are
32:48cherry picking from
32:49your part of history,
32:51then is the Congress
32:52of the opinion that
32:53whatever Nehru says is
32:54sacrosigned for them?
32:56Then Jannah also
32:57wanted slaughter of
32:58cows.
33:00Will the Congress have
33:01the capacity, the
33:02audacity to say that
33:04from their headquarters
33:05today?
33:09Are you telling me
33:10if I pray to my
33:11God, there will be
33:13a disturbance?
33:15That means in this
33:16country, freedom to
33:17profess, preach,
33:19practice your religion
33:20is the only freedom
33:22that will be denied
33:22to Hindus?
33:24At the state level.
33:26I mean, you know,
33:27at government level.
33:28What state level?
33:29Was the Congress
33:29party headquarter a
33:30state organization?
33:32No, at state level is
33:34the point that they
33:34raised.
33:35But, you know,
33:36since you were
33:37education minister,
33:38and I'm sorry and
33:39I'm digressing once
33:40again from the
33:42one day matrim issue
33:43coming back to the
33:43issue of paper leaks
33:46and unrest that's
33:48taking place in
33:49different parts of
33:49the country.
33:50When you were
33:50education minister,
33:51there was unrest in
33:53one part after a
33:55particular suicide.
33:57Do you see a
33:58trend that is
33:59building up of
34:01protests on the
34:02street to take on
34:03the government?
34:05No government has
34:07ever been devoid of
34:08a protest or a
34:09pushback in the
34:10history of democracy.
34:12The question before
34:14us is do people in
34:16government respond
34:17productively to
34:18outrage?
34:19Did the prime
34:20minister of our
34:21country, in a
34:23country where people
34:23say I have a nine
34:24to five job and
34:25after five I would
34:27be available the
34:27next day, in such a
34:29country as a
34:30professional, as a
34:31politician, as an
34:32administrator, was the
34:33prime minister of our
34:34country available at
34:35twelve midnight to
34:36converse with our
34:37citizens?
34:38He was.
34:41Was that panic as the
34:42opposition puts it?
34:44Pay your pardon?
34:45Was that panic as the
34:46opposition puts it?
34:48Panic that Gen Z are
34:50getting angry or they're
34:51not listening, reach out
34:53directly.
34:54How old are you, Mr.
34:55Savan?
34:56My apologies for asking
34:58you this.
34:58How old are you?
34:58No, I'm 52.
35:00I'm 50.
35:01Are you telling me that
35:02you and I as citizens are
35:03redundant because we are
35:05not 30 years old?
35:06No.
35:07In this country we've had
35:08divisions which are
35:09layered in the name of
35:10religion, region, caste,
35:12subsections.
35:14Are we dangerously adding a
35:15new ageist silo?
35:18Are we telling people in
35:19this country that if you
35:20are not below the age of
35:21twenty-nine and don't
35:23form a bracket which is
35:25internationally proclaimed
35:26then you will not be
35:28relevant as a citizen?
35:30Sixty-four crore Indians
35:32went to vote, Mr.
35:33Savan, in 2024.
35:35We all did not vote for
35:37the same party.
35:38We all did not vote for
35:39the same person.
35:40We all do not follow the
35:41same political ideology.
35:43But we all believe in our
35:44institutions and that's why
35:45we come out to vote.
35:48We know that our system is
35:50evolving.
35:51We know we have challenges
35:52but we also know that as a
35:54country we are committed to
35:55following solutions.
35:58Today I will quote the CM,
36:01Mr. Abdullah.
36:03Yes.
36:04Who says that this is a new
36:05nomenclature which basically
36:06makes you remember the old
36:08adage,
36:09those who screamed at the
36:13crossroads where there was
36:16troop movement to say I am
36:17Gen Z and I am paying taxes.
36:19They should go back and
36:20scream and see what the
36:22family of a fallen soldier
36:24says.
36:25That family will say,
36:26I will give you the tax
36:27money, my son.
36:32True.
36:34Undoubtedly.
36:35As Mr. Rahman Gandhi
36:36admonish such a person,
36:41we all have our politics to
36:43fight, but our politics cannot be
36:45greater than our country.
36:47we all will indulge in political skirmishes we will all indulge in political battles debates
36:55but nothing overrides the sentiment for our country did the leader of opposition
37:00Omar Abdullah made a statement but did the leader of opposition step up and say you cannot shout
37:08down at an armed force personnel and say my tax burden because I'm gen z they are gen z who
37:15serve
37:15in the indian armed forces yes they are gen z's who serve in the front line as health workers
37:21they are gen z's who are engineers they are gen z's who are technologists they are gen z's were
37:26even in delhi police who are getting beaten up yes did raul gandhi speak up for those gen z's
37:34so let's stop dividing people now yes on the basis of age every indian irrespective of region religion
37:41caste and age is relevant and every indian institution demands and deserves respect
37:49which includes the parliament that mandated the full rendition of vande matara
37:55spriti rani for joining me here on this india today special broadcast many thanks
38:00all right let's cut across to some more updates coming in from that dharna rahul gandhi has been
38:13sitting on outside the parliament street police station delhi police is now registered in FIR
38:18regarding that pellet gun incident so after four hours a little more than four hours in fact of rahul
38:25gandhi being there outside the parliament street police station we now have the FIR which has been
38:29registered randdeep surjewala priyanka gandhi currently at the dcp's office we are told the
38:35FIR is based on the complaint filed by sahil it is registered against an unknown person at the moment
38:41while no specific name will appear in the accused column just yet so FIR against unknown person
38:49filed by the pellet gun victim rahul let's cut across to the other rahul in this case not gandhi i'm
38:56talking about i'm talking about my colleague rahul gautam who's been bringing us up to speed with
39:00everything else that's been happening rahul i see you outside the parliament street police station now
39:05tell us what next FIR has been registered where are the leaders now
39:20rahul
39:21rahul if you can hear me now that the FIR has been registered what's happening there
39:36well obviously congress will now claim victory and i would go around to say that they have bent
39:41the government uh on this issue remember uh you know it's now close to five hours since rahul gandhi
39:48uh sitting here uh at the dcp office of parliament street police station and not just rahul gandhi in fact
39:54uh they were prinka gandhi watra jairam ramesh kumali shalja all the other senior leaders uh inside the uh
40:01the very premise of parliament street police station and outside there was scores of congress workers
40:07expect because of the fact that congress party has been insisting that an FIR should be filed uh in this
40:13regard then only they'll be leaving the place otherwise congress is not going to budge from their stance
40:18uh and that's why i expect uh that now given the fact that an FIR has been registered against unknown
40:24person on the basis of the complaint of sahil lochab expect uh that this is going to be a breakthrough
40:30or some sort of a truce and uh in all likelihood rahul gandhi will be vacating this uh uh this
40:36place but
40:37one thing is very important here that congress will now go on uh you know go forward and create a
40:42narrative that they have uh uh in a way they uh the government has succumbed to their pressure it was
40:47rahul gandhi who's leading the charge at the very forefront as far as student uh causes concern and
40:53remember uh you know uh it was a great optics on the part of the congress party many in the
40:59party
40:59believe why uh because rahul gandhi uh uh got sahil lochab earlier also on 14th uh you know on 24th
41:06of
41:07july and in fact on 14th of august he went on to a police station to get this FIR registered
41:13when when
41:14he is claiming that he was refused uh to get his file registered uh FIR registered then only he he
41:20tried to get political support from rahul gandhi which rahul gandhi readily offered and came all the
41:26way uh to the parliament street police station to get this FIR registered and now after five hours
41:32since if rahul can you could you also take us through some visuals there just trying to understand
41:38what's happening to the protest as we speak is rahul gandhi still there is he leaving uh what exactly is
41:46he going to make a statement what's happening next well i just show you actually what is happening on the
42:01ground zero i'll ask my camera person to just uh pan the camera around show you uh about the
42:07activities that are going here rahul gandhi you can see still waiting here for the copy of FIR as we
42:14speak we've been informed that brandeep singh surjewala and uh priyanka gandhi vadra uh they are getting
42:23this uh you know the entire process done uh because obviously they've been demanding this for past five
42:28hours uh earlier the delhi police refused to do so saying that there's already in an sit uh which
42:34has been uh constituted uh at the directions of supreme court and therefore they can't really do
42:39much and can't really file a separate FIR but rahul gandhi was now you just see the uh these are
42:46the
42:46visuals of the parliament street road and you can see there are scores of congress workers uh because
42:52the fact that gates are closed nobody is allowed to enter into the premise but still uh the congress
42:58workers are holding the ground just outside the uh the the office dcp office and it was quite
43:04unprecedented uh given the fact that and lop looks about coming all the way to a dcp office
43:10holding adhana and congress is saying that this also shows this how situation is so uh grim in the
43:17country that lop had to come only to get an FIR registered which many of them are saying uh has
43:23been a norm in the country uh like zero FIRs the the very complaint uh that you gave actually get
43:29trans uh you know uh transformed into an FIR but here in this case they were not able to do
43:35so and
43:35that's why rahul gandhi himself intervened ensured that the FIR get registered and expect that now
43:41congress would claim victory and also vindication of their uh their leader that's rahul gandhi saying
43:47that he is the one who has now emerged as as one of the most popular leaders of youth and
43:52gen z and
43:53that's why he's taking up their cause all right that's interesting visuals there that rahul gautam
43:59is showing us inside you have the pal you have the congress leadership and outside you have congress
44:05workers who have reached as well rahul gandhi five hours and counting has managed to get the FIR
44:10registered a very gen z style of protest that he has conducted and at the moment it looks like he's
44:16had his way the delhi police has given in to register that FIR
