In the final battle of "Expedition 33," Renoir, the Curator, faces Maelle and her companions in a final confrontation within the Monolith. Renoir, having been defeated and exiled from the Canvas, seeks to protect his family from the dangers of the Gommage and the Paintress. He uses his power to repaint the Axon Sirene, an entity that aids him, and Maelle's companions must overcome him and his allies.
Aline, the Paintress, enters the Canvas to battle Sirene, allowing Expedition 33 to defeat Renoir and ultimately remove him from the Canvas. After the Paintress is defeated, Renoir attempts to destroy the Canvas, but Maelle (now with her memories as Alicia) prevents him. Renoir ultimately leaves the Canvas, resigning to the fate of his family and the destruction of the world within.
