00:09Hello everyone, I'm Anthony Gallegos, Creative Director on Subnautica 2,
00:12and I'm here to talk to you today about the Buddy System Update.
00:16It's coming out tomorrow.
00:17This is our 1.2 update.
00:19It's been in large part directly driven by a lot of the feedback
00:22that we've gotten from you as part of our open development process.
00:25And the first big feature that we're putting out with this
00:27is Proximity Voice Chat.
00:28Hey, there you are.
00:31Hello.
00:32This is our first iteration of it,
00:33so we hope that we get your feedback on it
00:35and tell us how we can improve on it as we go.
00:37This is going to let you have an in-game voice chat option
00:40that you can do with your friends.
00:42You'll be able to talk locally with each other,
00:44and then as you get further away,
00:45you'll hear it switch to sort of a radio sounding voice
00:47that will progressively break up as you get further away.
00:50Up until a certain point where you can almost not hear me at all.
00:56It's kind of cool.
00:57I think it definitely adds to the tension of it,
01:00and I look forward to letting you guys try that out
01:02and tell us what you think.
01:04Alongside the Proximity Voice Chat for multiplayer,
01:06we also have player emotes.
01:07This is going to let you access a small menu of emotes
01:10that lets you roll through a bunch of different emotions
01:12so you can, you know, cheer on your friends,
01:15you know, clap for them to tell them that you're happy with them
01:17or maybe that you're a little annoyed with them,
01:19and you can also show that you're frustrated.
01:21The thing that I think is the most exciting about these
01:23is actually the ways that people will use them out of context
01:26that I think will make for some really fun moments.
01:29We also have inventory sharing,
01:30so now you'll be able to walk up behind another player,
01:33access their inventory.
01:34The person whose inventory is being accessed
01:36will get a little notification,
01:37and this will allow you to quickly swap items between one another
01:40instead of having to, like, drop inventory items out in the world
01:42and have them pick it up.
01:44We also have player revives,
01:46so if your friend gets downed,
01:48whether it's by a smaller shark
01:50or maybe they run out of food and they die from that
01:52or they run out of oxygen,
01:54there's going to be a timer that will elapse
01:56where you can swim out to them,
01:58share some oxygen with them,
01:59bring them back to life,
02:00and sort of saves the day.
02:01There's also going to be additional player characters
02:03that are being added.
02:04This is two characters.
02:05One is called Grace.
02:06The other one's called Jegna.
02:07And there's going to be them alongside two new suit colors to add,
02:10which should help, you know,
02:11with a little bit more of the diversification of players
02:14when you're a multiplayer.
02:15So you can still all look like the same character if you want.
02:18That's something we support,
02:19but we'd like to have more options for you,
02:21and we will continue to roll out new options
02:23as we go through early access.
02:25We'll also have the tracking tag.
02:26This is a short-range beacon
02:27that you can throw out in the environment.
02:29You can also put it inside an inventory,
02:31like a floating locker, a portable locker.
02:33That way, if you ever, you know,
02:35leave it somewhere in a cave,
02:35you can find your way back to it
02:37without having to slowly search the environment.
02:39Also, if you die holding a tracking tag
02:41or have one in your inventory,
02:42it'll extend your black box signal far out.
02:45This will help you and your friends find your black box
02:47so you can find the stuff that you left behind.
02:49Alongside this,
02:50we're going to also be putting in improved HUD icons.
02:53So this will make it so that
02:54all the icons will not be all at their full scale by default,
02:58but if they'll shrink,
02:59but when you mouse over them
03:00or, you know, move your view over them
03:02if you're playing on a controller,
03:03after a half second or so,
03:05they'll actually scale up
03:06and give you the full details of them.
03:08This is really nice
03:08because when you get really further away from a region
03:10and you might have like six beacons,
03:12you turn and look at it,
03:12they're all really grouped together.
03:14But this allows you to more precisely pick the one
03:16that you want to know the information for
03:18without it feeling so busy on the HUD.
03:20Alongside that,
03:21we're also improving on pin recipes,
03:22which means the UI should feel a little less confusing.
03:25And we're also making improvements
03:26to the base builder tool.
03:27This should help it make it a lot more clear
03:29when you can and can't build something.
03:31And that's really just a chunk of the larger features
03:35that we're adding in the 1.2 buddy system update.
03:37We're going to have a ton of bug fixes.
03:38And of course, alongside all of this,
03:40we're continuing to work on the EA2 update
03:42that's going to add the new region
03:44with the new story and new progression,
03:45new vehicles,
03:47all those things.
03:54So, we really can't say enough.
03:56Thank you so much for playing in Early Access
03:58and thank you for joining us in Open Development.
04:00The whole reason that we do make games
04:02at Unknown Worlds in this way
04:03is because we think we make the best games possible
04:05when you participate in the development alongside us.
04:09And I think that this update shows
04:10that we really want to listen
04:12and prioritize the things that our fans are asking for.
04:16So, again, thank you so much.
04:18Please play the 1.2 update
04:20and let us know what you think.
04:22And we'll see you soon, Captains.
