00:00Let's talk about the best hardware wallets this year. So cold storage risk score ranking is what
00:07this video is all about. That means we are actually going to be looking at some of these hardware
00:12wallet providers and ranking them. It's so important right now with what we've just seen with
00:16cold card hardware wallet hack recently, right? So for many years, security in crypto, I mean,
00:24the advice used to be very simple, right? You move your coins to cold storage, you use a hardware
00:29wallet, you keep your seed phrase offline. But that advice is at the end of the day, yes,
00:35broadly correct, right? But this year has definitely made the next lesson impossible to ignore. And I'm
00:44talking about just the fact that cold storage is not magic. A hardware wallet does not remove
00:49the risk entirely. It just changes the type of risk that you encounter because instead of trusting in
00:57an exchange, users are trusting a device design, in this case, firmware quality, randomness,
01:05a generation, secure elements, supply chain controls, recovery procedures, and also just
01:12operational discipline of the people that are actually manufacturing these hardware wallet devices.
01:19So the reported cold card incident is a serious reminder of that, right? The issue was not a
01:26typical exchange hack. It was not ordinary phishing or a leaked seed phrase, right? It actually reportedly
01:34involved a firmware-related weakness affecting seed generation randomness on certain devices.
01:41And with AI really hot right now, I think the threat and vulnerabilities are even more pronounced
01:49because hackers are able to move faster, have more tools than they did before, right? So that matters
01:57because if a seed is generated, let's say with a weak randomness, the seed phrase can look normal
02:03while being a vulnerable seed phrase, right? So the strongest list, and I think a standard phrase,
02:10a seed phrase can become a single point of failure at the end of the day. That's why I think
02:15we,
02:16as Decentralized News, decided to rank Ledger, OneKey, CoolWallet, KeepKey, and we use the
02:25proprietary tool, the cold storage risk score. So check out the link in the description so you can
02:31actually go and play around and see it for yourself. So the model itself looks at secure
02:36element strength, firmware transparency, non-vulnerability history, BIP 39 pass phrase
02:44support, wireless attack surface, supply chain, and tamper protection. So the ranking is not about a
02:51brand popularity, it's about practical failure modes, right? So OneKey has the highest strength because
02:56it combines EAL6 and secure elements, open source firmware, reproducible builds, and stronger
03:05temper protections. CoolWallet scores well for its compact temper-proof card design and also the
03:14EAL6 plus element, secure element, with the main trade-off being Bluetooth-only connectivity.
03:22And then Ledger remains the ecosystem leader, but transparency concerns as well. The Ledger recover,
03:30controversy, and past software supply chain issue. Issues that they've had lowers their score.
03:38KeepKey is open source and affordable, but it's non-physical vulnerability and lack of a secure
03:44element. Make it the weakest long-term cold storage option in this ranking. But I think the universal
03:53takeaway is bigger. You know, it's bigger than just a brand, right? You need layers, updated official
04:00firmware, buy from trusted sources, use a passphrase where appropriate and bake it up separately and
04:09consider Marta's signature for larger holdings as well. So self-custody removes that exchange counterparty
04:15risk, but it also replaces it with personal security responsibility. And that responsibility is manageable
04:21only if users actually treat it very, very seriously, right? So check out the full ranking risk score
04:29ranking in the link in the description to our main site. And also check out the links to all these
04:36hardware wallets and get some bonuses and discounts and make sure you protect your bags, like, share,
