A Tennessee pastor who spent years traveling across the country preaching the Gospel has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of repeatedly raping a child.
Benjamin Garlick, 35, was found guilty of multiple counts involving aggravated rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery, exploitation of a minor and violations of Tennessee’s Child Protection Act. His wife, Shaantal Garlick, 32, was also convicted for facilitating the abuse and aggravated child neglect.
The case began in August 2023 after Murfreesboro police investigated allegations involving a 5-year-old child. Detectives later identified two additional victims and determined that the abuse had continued for several years.
Authorities said the couple had traveled extensively through their ministry, particularly serving Hispanic communities, with connections to churches across several states.
Police credited the Child Protective Investigative Team for helping bring the case to trial and ensuring the victims’ voices were heard. Shaantal Garlick is scheduled to be sentenced on November 10, while Benjamin faces sentencing on additional convictions that same day.
