Lindsay Clancy begged for help before her children's killings

Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial has heard emotional testimony about the weeks before the deaths of her three children in Massachusetts.

Her former mother-in-law, Susan Clancy, described Lindsay as a loving and nurturing mother whose mental health had sharply declined after the birth of her youngest son. Susan testified that, “She had insomnia. She was losing her appetite,” and added, “She was very anxious and sad.” When asked whether Lindsay was committed to getting medical help, Susan replied, “Very much so,” before saying, “She was begging for help.”

Lindsay’s defense argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, including hallucinations and delusions, while prosecutors claim she intentionally killed her children.

Her mother, Paula Musgrove, previously testified that Lindsay had warned the family she was having thoughts of harming the children. Musgrove also recalled Lindsay saying, “This isn’t me, I’ve never been like this before.”

The case has sparked renewed attention on postpartum psychosis, a rare but serious psychiatric emergency that can occur after childbirth.
