00:00We're going to get answers from Aaron Boone a little bit later on.
00:02You're going to want to keep it right here to WFN all day long
00:04because when Boone speaks, a lot of people are going to be curious
00:07on how this will be spun or explained.
00:10But our reaction has to be, this isn't good, Jake.
00:13Yeah, this is not good because of how long it took him the last time
00:16he had this elbow bone bruise, they're calling it.
00:21It's two months, just over two months, the last time he had this.
00:24And so if he's on the IL for two months again,
00:28he's not pitching in the postseason.
00:30You know that is the case.
00:31And it was interesting when I was looking at how potentially this happened
00:37because when you hear a bone bruise, you think contact injury.
00:41You think someone got hit or it got clipped the wrong way
00:46and all of a sudden there's a bruise on the bone
00:48and it's swelling and inflammation.
00:50But what they're describing this as is a hyperextension of his elbow.
00:57So his elbow, because of his lankiness and the flexibility of his arm,
01:03when he throws really hard, it kind of hyperextends.
01:06You know what I mean?
01:07And so your bone is getting banged on the back end of that tip-fib connection
01:14in a way, not tip-fib, the femur ulna, back end of your ulna,
01:20in a way that it's not used to doing.
01:23And so it's just causing pain.
01:26But is this actually a UCL injury or is this just a bone bruise?
01:32That's what we don't know.
01:33What's concerning is that, and we do need to look back at the first injury he had
01:38because this is a reoccurrence.
01:40Yes.
01:40This is the same injury.
01:41Same thing with a hyperextension.
01:43Right.
01:43That injury never occurred because of a line drive that went off of him.
01:47It never occurred because of contact like you talked about.
01:50It occurred because he was pitching.
01:52It occurred because, I guess, two bones were rubbing together,
01:57or however you want to describe it.
01:58Right.
01:58Bottom line is.
01:59They hyperextend.
02:00They go the wrong way.
02:01It hits the wrong spot.
02:02It occurred from pitching.
02:03Yes.
02:04It didn't occur from falling down.
02:05It didn't occur from a line drive.
02:06It occurred from pitching.
02:08He then didn't pitch for nearly two months.
02:11Right.
02:11He comes back.
02:12He makes a handful of starts.
02:14Pitches well.
02:15Again, no sign of anything wrong in terms of the performance.
02:18And now the same injury occurs.
02:20So, like, there are two major questions that come from this.
02:23Number one, does he have to miss the same amount of time as you described?
02:26If it's two months, he's not pitching again.
02:28And then, B, even if it's a short period of time,
02:31aren't we now concerned it's just going to pop up again?
02:33I mean, how does it not pop up again?
02:35And it took him two months for it to feel right enough for him to come back
02:38and pitch the last time this happened.
02:40And so, as much as I hate to think about this,
02:43you almost have to exclude him from the rest of the regular season
02:46and potentially the postseason.
02:47I think if there was no injury given,
02:49it was just Max Freed's going on the IL,
02:51or it was a hamstring, or it was anything else,
02:54I think we'd be more open to the positivity.
02:56The fact that in a press release,
02:59because, again, Aaron Boone hasn't met the media yet.
03:01He'll do it later today before they take on the Orioles.
03:03Brian Cashman hasn't met the media.
03:04So the only information all of us have,
03:07including Yankee beat writers,
03:08they haven't supplied anything new,
03:09and I'm not blaming them for it.
03:10Like, someone has to leak for them to get the information.
03:12It's not like they could just create it out of nowhere.
03:14This is a reoccurrence.
03:16And if it's a reoccurrence,
03:17it's very tough to imagine here in the middle of August
03:19that there's just going to be enough time for him to come back.
