00:00It's easy to sit here and say, oh, Aaron Boone didn't do X, Y, or Z, but Aaron Boone's not
00:04taking at-bats. It's the approach is messed up, and I feel like I don't want to go, you know,
00:12look at the hitting coach. I don't want to go look at, I don't know, the bench coach.
00:16It does come down to the individual, but something's got to change, but I don't know
00:20how it changes for this team. That's what I mean by simple and complicated. It is simple to
00:24diagnose what's been wrong with the Yankees. There are so many stats that I could give you
00:28right now because they've been all over the place over the last few days on how inept
00:31the Yankee offense has been. One stat that was shown last night was the fact that they
00:36have now had a stretch of games in which they have scored five runs or less that matches
00:42the record in the history of the New York Yankees, or the fact that their offense had 11 strikeouts
00:48or more and zero walks in consecutive games for the first time ever. Like, I could give
00:55you more, but that's just like a taste of all the stats that prove what we already know,
01:00which is that their offense is bad, and so that's the simple part. Like, last night the
01:02Yankees lost because they couldn't score a run. The complicated part is, how do you fix
01:06it? Like, I always hear on this radio...
01:08Or whose fault is it?
01:08Oh, everybody, but there is one guy that jumps out above everybody else.
01:12All right.
01:13Cody Bellinger.
01:14Why Cody?
01:16Because...
01:16What's Cody doing? How's Cody affecting how, I don't know, Paul Goldschmidt is hitting,
01:20and going 0 for 30 or whatever that can be?
01:22Well, I'm not saying it's jazz, or why is it his fault?
01:26What was the question you just asked me? Let me reword the question. Who do you blame
01:30the most?
01:31Yeah, who do you blame the most?
01:32The most would be Cody Bellinger. That doesn't mean I don't blame Paul Goldschmidt, who's
01:35going through one of the worst 0-fers in his career, or I don't blame just the bad luck
01:39of Aaron Judge being hurt. Like, there are a lot... Or Austin Wells, not being a Major League
01:42Baseball player. Like, there are a lot of people to blame for this, but if you just asked
01:46me, and you said, all right, Ev, this is a historical offensive malaise the Yankees
01:51are in, which player do you blame the most? Cody Bellinger's hitting 118 for the last four
01:56weeks. He's making a ton of money. He's been a really good, consistent Yankee until now.
02:02So, yeah, if you ask me to name a player I blame the most, my answer is Cody Bellinger.
02:06I would blame Judge for not being here, for not being available, but obviously he's not
02:10available.
02:10That's a cheating answer.
02:12That is a cheating answer. It's not a fair one, but the approach feels broken.
02:16And is it fatigue? Are they tired?
02:19Every year at the same time?
02:22June, July?
02:23That's what I don't get.
02:24Yeah.
02:24That's why it's hard to explain. It's the same story every single year, and I understand
02:29why Yankee fans get frustrated and don't really have a belief, despite how weak the American
02:34League is, that they actually have a chance to do anything this season.
02:37You know, the...
