Love the BI Design House and want to know where we sourced all the furniture, homewares and interiors from? Come on a heartfelt tour of the BI Design House with Sheila.

Sheila explains how the BI Design House was created, and how older pieces that she had collected, as well as some new favourites, were combined to create unique spaces. Discover the secrets behind the house.

Some of Sheila’s favourite features include:

A living room colour palette that was inspired by the 2 yellow suns that feature in the wall art, and a sculptural lamp that hangs in the centre of the living room
A piece of marble that Sheila found at the back of a shop and knew was perfect for the backsplash
A courtyard outdoor setting that is perfect for relaxing conversations.
An art room that is the heart and soul of the house and gets the creative juices flowing!

Discover where each item was sourced from, and how different colours of textured limewash paint were combined with hand-crafted furniture and art to create unique spaces that combine into a cohesive feel across the house.

Come and experience the BI Design House!

00:00Finally the house is completed so I'm going to welcome you now
00:03to have a first look at the BIA Design House. Come on in.
00:10BIA Design House is the work of architect Sylvia Furman and interior designer Annie Chi.
00:19The first place I want to show you is the living room. We kept a lot of the things that
00:23we had for
00:24our home. We didn't do a lot of changes. We kept the table. We recovered the sofa. These ones
00:30actually were from Anada. They created this for me. The whole color scheme came about these paintings
00:37and we love the color of the sands so we decided to create the back color. From there the whole
00:43color palette came came about. Also I've had this this lamp from Onsen Kwan for a while. Such a
00:49beautiful piece so sculptural it brings this other kind of element to the room and we love it.
00:54So we decided to keep it.
01:02The kitchen was... I definitely wanted to change it. I love the kitchen that we had before but it
01:07was outdated. The tables were not very good so we decided to go and change them for marble. This
01:13marble that I see at the backsplash, I went to this marble shop and I saw it and I was
01:18like oh my god
01:19I have to have this. It's the most beautiful marble I've ever seen. The textures, the colors,
01:23you can touch it. It feels like kind of like leathery and wood at the same time. And they
01:28only had one piece so I said please keep it for me.
01:34And then we moved to the dining area. So actually we kept the same dining table that I had before.
01:40The only thing that I did was to renew the chairs with a classic model but this time turning into
01:45a
01:46black colored chair and I think we really love how it looks.
01:55So all the broom furniture, we got it made by Anada. I sent them all the designs and I have
02:04to say
02:05they were amazing.
02:09This actually was going to be the bedside table because we wanted to make it a little bit different.
02:15So then I put the bedside table here. I'm so happy with the mirrors as well.
02:19They've done such an amazing job. Everything that Ani designed, they did perfectly to a tee.
02:27We have this painting that is from House Le Mans. So this is the bathroom of the Oracle room which
02:36is
02:36kind of the Balinese room and I really wanted this antique look for the tableware. So we chose to have
02:43Paloma here on the shower, on the sink and also on the bathtub and on the accessories and I think
02:49it's
02:49really solidifies that kind of antique, all Balinese style.
03:01The outside area we definitely wanted to have some sunbeds. I asked Anada to help me do the
03:08the scallop metal work. The cushions were done by DC Habitat and which are really good for
03:16for the outdoors and if they keep the color and the shape for many many years.
03:29So at the A Design House we also have a spa and this spa is just to you know to
03:36feel like you're
03:37a cocoon to make you feel soft and warm. After you have your massage you can have a cup of
03:44tea and relax
03:46before you go back to your room.
03:55So this is the smaller one of all of the rooms which is the portal room. Actually I really really
04:01love
04:01this room even though it's small it's very very cozy. Obviously we have the Anada furniture, the bedside
04:10tables, the chair and the desk as well as the mirror on the wall. This chair is by Hattie Hon.
04:17We had a mission that every person that will stay at the BI Design House will have the best night
04:22of sleep. So we decided to get organic latex mattresses which are done by Hebea.
04:35So let me take you to the three rooms upstairs.
04:42So BI Design House is a place for art, creativity and connection and a lot of the artworks that we
04:50have
04:50here have it's only the story. So for example this artwork here is by a Dutch friend Bismet and he
04:59used to
04:59live here in Bali with his wife and his children and actually they were very very good friends of ours.
05:06And I commissioned this painting to him and I gave it to my husband as a present and now I'm
05:12Sia.
05:18This used to be our home so actually this room and that room were actually my children's rooms so
05:25we kept the names of the rooms for our children so this is the Phoenix room.
05:33Here I wanted to be really grounded and feel like a place of renovation and renewal. We chose this
05:41wallpaper from Hummingbird. This one was designed first so we needed to do this headboard first
05:48and then we looked through the catalogs until we found a wallpaper that matched the colour.
05:54This artwork by this artist called Athena. She's Bali based and when I saw it I absolutely love it and
06:03I think it's some people find it creepy which is funny because it never gave me that impression but for
06:09me
06:10I just love the mix of materials of the paints and also the hand stitching. I just absolutely loved it
06:16and
06:16we found the perfect place. I got this piece of artwork from Michael Jewell which I absolutely love
06:23and then Anada did an amazing job with this kind of sofa that it has that wave pattern and it
06:31looks
06:32absolutely fantastic in this room. We love it.
06:43This is the Luna room and this is the most playful and kind of girly room. You know I am
06:49girly but not
06:50so girly. I had this shade from Lumiere shades actually that the owner had given to me a while back
06:56and I thought this would be such a great statement piece in this room. It's a piece of artwork from
07:01the medium and it was I found this artwork and I absolutely loved it and it had that masculinity
07:08that I needed to balance the feminine in this room.
07:15The wave and undulation motif continues in this room. I asked Anada if they could make me this headboard
07:22which is was the undulation with like a very traditional rattan that you can find in Bali and
07:28I absolutely love how it ended up looking and as well as that we decided to do a desk with
07:33the same
07:34undulation to continue the pattern also from Anada. And this chair is by Hattie Holm as well which is
07:41absolutely beautiful it's such beautiful quality absolutely adore it. I have a painting by Ricky Lee
07:47Gordon who has he's an artist by the base who also has the art gallery called Sun Contemporary.
08:02So this is the master and in this room we wanted to create also a feel of like it's such
08:09a big room we
08:10decided to to use Altarize again and we use Altarize for all the the lime wash color in each wall
08:17and I
08:18love this color I think it looks amazing on it. We use this woven rattan wallpaper and we also added
08:27this brass mirror to to bring light and bring the outside back into the room. This is the master
08:34bathroom of the master room we really want to show how beautiful it is and also how beautiful the view
08:40that you get. So the sun room has its own balcony which is pretty special it overlooks all these beautiful
08:47rice fields and it's just like another extra extra space that you have to yourself to have some
08:52privacy and some moments of meditation. After we did the renovation we really felt like we needed a
09:04space here in the cordia just to accentuate it and really make it a usable space. When I met CV
09:09Designs
09:10I went to their showroom they showed me all the sofas and I absolutely fell in love with this set.
09:15I asked them and they brought it here and once we put it in it just looked absolutely beautiful
09:21and perfect and I'm so happy we got the chance to have their designs.
09:30So the final room is the art room and it's really the heart and soul of this house. This is
09:36where we do
09:36all the workshops and we can really get creative and we found the most amazing table by Endicraft
09:43which is beautiful and really extend to have at least 10 people sitting absolutely comfortable.
09:49So we're super happy to have this beautiful piece of furniture on this space.
09:56This is where we are.
10:02Thank you so much.
