00:01More than 300 representatives from financial institutions, government agencies and the corporate sector
00:07gathered to celebrate high-performing MSMEs at the 31st annual awards ceremony hosted by Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia, or CGC.
00:16The event was attended by Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Sri Abdul Rashid Ghafoor,
00:21who highlighted the important role MSMEs play in the Malaysian economy.
00:26Central to Malaysian's gross quarry are our MSMEs.
00:31They come for about 40% of gross domestic product and for almost half of total employment.
00:39Capitalism relief cannot be the long-term answer to recurring shocks.
00:43Businesses must continue to adapt, strengthen the capabilities and improve productivity while financing also evolves alongside them.
00:58One of the evening's key announcements was the launch of the BNMCG C Portfolio Guarantee and Portfolio Guarantee I schemes.
01:07The initiative is expected to facilitate up to RM10 billion in guaranteed financing through risk-sharing with participating financial institutions.
01:16Around 12,100 MSMEs are expected to benefit, with eligible businesses able to secure financing of up to RM10 million
01:24each.
01:25For businesses that may not have extensive credit histories or collateral, risk-sharing could also open doors to financing that
01:32might otherwise remain out of reach.
01:35CGC Chairman Datuk Mohamed Hussein said resilience is about more than money, it is also about the character and adaptability
01:42of the people running these businesses.
01:55The event presented 32 awards across 13 categories, including Top Financial Institution or FI Partner and Non-FI Partner Awards,
02:04Citation of Merits, SME Awards and Special Recognition.
02:09Among the highlights were five Merdeka Awards honouring MSMEs with active Bhumiputra participation across ownership and leadership,
02:17as well as the CGC Developmental Programs Award celebrating standout enterprises achieving exceptional turnover growth.
02:25Alliance Bank Malaysia emerged as one of the evening's major winners, taking the Best Financial Partner Award jointly with CIMB
02:33Islamic Bank,
02:34as well as top FI Partner for the conventional category.
02:38The bank also highlighted its digital SME segment, which offers collateral-free digital financing based on just six months of
02:46bank statements.
02:47Here we actually understand the pain point of SME customers, whether they are young, they are maturing, or they are
02:54mid-tier or large SME,
02:56and we actually grow together with them to actually support their banking requirements and facilities required.
03:02So we are always there to actually grow together with them.
03:05CIMB, Bank Berhad secured multiple honours, including Top FI Partner, Islamic, through CIMB Islamic and Citation of Merits in the
03:14mid-tier category.
03:16CIMB Bank Chief Executive Officer Gurdeep Singh Sidhu revealed that the group has delivered over RM2 billion in CGC-backed
03:23financing to date.
03:24Today is a continuous recognition of our support for SMEs, and they are a key backbone to our economy.
03:33And with CGC support, both CIMB and CGC is able to provide funding to clients who would have maybe struggled
03:42to get it without this collaboration.
03:45And that is an important part for us to enable these SMEs to grow and generate business for themselves.
03:56CGC President and Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Nazri Omar said the organisation is now moving into its next strategic phase,
04:04CGC Group 2030.
04:05Over the past five years, CGC has provided financial assistance to more than 99,000 MSMEs and supported 161,000
04:15through developmental programmes.
04:16Under CGC Group 2030, the focus will shift towards ensuring financing translates into productive and sustainable business growth.
04:25Our measure of success is to show impactful outcomes to those defined as truly underserved.
04:34We need to show how our touch points not only enable them to access financing, but how they eventually access
04:41financing without our guarantee.
04:46And grow into successful and productive companies.
