00:00We're all trying to figure out what should happen
00:04and what will happen as it relates to Jaden Daniels.
00:07And I want to start here.
00:09We're going to open the phone lines up, 800-636-1067.
00:12800-636-1067.
00:15What do you think should happen?
00:17Specifically, and I want to ask B this first,
00:22should Marcus Mariota's injury impact the plans
00:26for Jaden Daniels to play in preseason?
00:29No.
00:31Why?
00:32Because Jaden, just like we talked about this in his rookie season,
00:36we talked about this last season.
00:38As you get older, you begin to make proper decisions
00:41on things you need to do and not do.
00:43And I think you get that by experience.
00:46So those unnecessary hits and things like that,
00:49like I told you I felt Marcus holds on to the ball a little long
00:52and he takes those little hits.
00:55But you still have to get a football team ready to play football.
00:59So in my, this is my belief.
01:02Yes, he should get some playing time.
01:04And what happens to somebody else shouldn't affect you.
01:08Football is a 100% injury sport.
01:11If you play football long enough, you will get injury.
01:14And I think you have to realize that the way you stop getting them,
01:18you don't put yourself in certain situations.
01:21You can't control everything,
01:22but there are things you can control out there on the football field.
01:29It's weird because whatever the plan with Jaden was,
01:33I think you could argue that the Mariota injury has no impact on it.
01:37It shouldn't.
01:38But when Dan Quinn was asked about this,
01:41and I believe it was Nikki Javala who asked,
01:42I thought it was a good relevant question.
01:45Dan Quinn said, yeah, man, that is on my mind.
01:49Here's DQ asked about the plans for Jaden after the Mariota injury.
01:52Yeah, definitely thinking, you know,
01:55that was like a question on the top of my head.
01:57And I was staying in the block this week really before we get into the
02:00preparation for that as far as the game goes.
02:03So not right now it doesn't, Nikki.
02:05I recognize the question for sure.
02:06But right now we're kind of going into like these two days as still like a
02:11training camp mode.
02:11That'll be like Tuesday and Wednesday and big padded stuff.
02:14So as far as like how much and starters and what we do,
02:18some of it will depend on what I'm seeing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
02:21So we've got a bunch of situations that I'm trying to work through.
02:24Two minutes, four minutes, you know, some goal line stuff.
02:27So this is kind of like our most heightened training camp block coming up.
02:32So I'm excited to see that.
02:33But we haven't got in terms of like planning of the game yet of that part.
02:37All right.
02:39DQ's answer to me is kind of punting on the question,
02:43but also providing some wiggle room.
02:46Yes, it's on my mind.
02:47Yeah.
02:47And listen, he's a human being.
02:51Of course, it's on his mind.
02:53But you don't know what you're also thinking.
02:54I got to get this team ready to play.
02:56I got to get that young man ready to play, ready to be in those situations.
03:01And like having injuries, you never not think about them.
03:07But eventually you got to stop letting them be at the front of your mind
03:09if you're going to continue playing.
03:11How much of Jaden's injured 2025 season do you think is a factor in
03:16if they're going to let him play in preseason?
03:18He got hurt during the season.
03:19He played four complete games last year.
03:21But he got hurt during the season.
03:22He didn't get hurt in preseason.
03:23But just the fact that they know how much he was hurt last year.
03:26Do you think that?
03:27I'm not if it should, but do you think it is a factor now?
03:30It should.
03:31I don't think it is a factor.
03:34Because they can look at 2024 where he played most of the games
03:38and was able to play through stuff.
03:41Last year, some freak accidents.
03:43You got to move on.
03:45Like when Jaden made the comment earlier this year about,
03:48I'm not thinking about 2025.
03:49People took it wrong.
03:51You eventually got to move on in your thought process.
03:54You can't keep looking back.
03:55People are calling in.
03:56Jim from the chat.
03:58What do you think, Jim?
03:59What do you want to see Jaden Daniels?
04:03B, Mitch, and the Aquarium boys.
04:05How are y'all doing on this Monday?
04:07We good, brother.
04:10Look, Jaden's played in the preseason, the past two seasons.
04:16I know he was hurt last year.
04:18We want to bubble wrap him.
04:19But kind of like D-Mitch just said,
04:22we can't be afraid to get ready to play football.
04:26So maybe like a series or two in this Detroit game,
04:30I don't see any reason why that would be a concern
04:33to me, Mario, this injury.
04:36Like we have capable like quarterbacks on the roster anyway
04:40to fill out the rest of the time.
04:41So I say play.
04:42And one more thing unrelated to Jaden.
04:46Barry, you saw him the word pass.
04:47Did y'all hear that?
04:48Yeah.
04:49They brought that back in the song.
04:51I think they, the song now, thanks for the call, Jim.
04:54Appreciate you.
04:55The fight song now is as close as it's ever been
04:57to what it was before.
04:58And I applaud that.
05:00I had always said, just keep it the same.
05:02Remember, they kind of put that like weird, like jazz,
05:05like gospel into it.
05:07It was gospel as gospel and jazz mix.
05:10It was gospel as.
05:11Yeah.
05:12Just play the other song, play the original
05:14and put in commanders.
05:16Like it, it ain't that hard.
05:21Do you think Jaden will play Sunday, Saturday?
05:25In my heart of hearts, I believe yes.
05:29Let's get, Shane is in Fairfax.
05:31What's up, Shane?
05:33J.P., B. Mitch.
05:34Hey, boys, how are you doing?
05:35We're good, man.
05:36How are you?
05:39Shane, I got to throw you on hold, brother.
05:41You sound like you're talking from a long time.
05:42Shane, you're in a tunnel somewhere, man.
05:44That phone sounds a little bad.
05:47I, I just wonder with the, the level of importance
05:52with a player like Jaden Daniels.
05:55And I get everybody wants him to play.
05:58I feel like DQ is building in some wiggle room of like,
06:01man, we pushed it so hard this week.
06:04The, if it's a risk reward equation,
06:07the risk of him playing two series, right?
06:13I mean, how much do you think he would actually play?
06:14If they go on a 15 play touchdown drive, he's done.
06:18Yeah.
06:19The, the risk of, of seeing Jaden Daniels out there for nine snaps, 13 snaps.
06:25I, I'm not sure the payoff is equivalent.
06:29I just, I'm not like in my mind, I grew up watching Joe Gibbs coach the Redskins.
06:36In that third preseason game, starters played into the second half.
06:39Like it was like, we're going to get ready for the season this season.
06:44Now this sport has changed.
06:45So fundamentally, and this season is still so far away with the,
06:50with the late Labor Day schedule that like, I'm just not,
06:54does Jaden Daniels getting 12 snaps on August 21st in Detroit,
06:58make much of an impact for September 13th in Philadelphia?
07:02I think it's a fair question.
07:03I don't know.
07:04It's a fair question.
07:05And I know those who don't want him to play will say no.
07:09And those who want him to play will say yes.
07:11It's, but I make the same comment every year.
07:16You're ready to play football by playing football.
07:18Sure.
07:19You don't get ready to play football by sitting at home.
07:22Cause if everybody, if everybody could just sit at home and go blue it,
07:25everybody'd be doing it.
07:28Let's try Shane again.
07:30Shane, what's up, dude?
07:32What's up, JP, B Mitch?
07:33How you guys doing today?
07:34We good, man.
07:36Hey, look, last time I checked, this is not flag football, right?
07:39The only way you get better at your tradies, you got to practice.
07:42You got to get better at it.
07:43Last time I checked, he's a big boy.
07:46And unless his mama wants to put bubble wrap on him and things like that.
07:50But no, he needs to be on that football field.
07:52He needs to be on that football field.
07:54This team has off due coordinators.
07:57They got to get together in jail.
07:59I don't want to hear that excuse last year.
08:01They used last year.
08:01Oh, we should have played our guys more in the preseason.
08:04Well, now it's time.
08:05Let's see what you said last year.
08:07Let's put quote.
08:08We need to get these guys out there.
08:09Look, he can get hurt in practice.
08:12Like, no, that's part of football.
08:14Like you said.
08:14And another thing is what's crazy is seeing number 30 out there on that field
08:20and just running around and doing his thing.
08:24That number, I know he's great, but that number should not be on that football field.
08:30I'm just saying.
08:31Hey, man.
08:31I ain't worried about that right now.
08:33I'm worried about that little kid going out there and bawling his ass off,
08:36and that's what he did.
08:36I am incredibly exhausted by number discourse.
08:40I promise you that.
08:41I don't even think about that.
08:43You know what?
08:44I was smiling seeing that number run around.
08:47Sure.
08:48Vote lines are open.
08:48800-636-1067.
08:49800-636-1067.
08:50Putting on somebody like Stallion, I would probably have been pissed off.
08:54Anthony is in Martinsville.
08:56800-636-1067 if you want to chime in.
08:59To me, when I read this, Dan Quinn, it reads different than it sounds.
09:07For Dan Quinn to get asked about if Mariota's injury affects Jaden Daniels' playing,
09:12when you read the quote, it says, definitely thinking that like it was a question on the
09:19top of my head.
09:21Like, clearly, that made an impression on Quinn.
09:25And then he kind of gets into Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be really big training
09:30camp days, and that's our focus.
09:32Padded stuff.
09:33Two-minute drill.
09:33Four-minute drill.
09:35So, I kind of think he's just punting on that question, but I think there is absolutely
09:40a chance Jaden does not play in Detroit.
09:44Play it one more time for me, Jeffrey.
09:46Yeah.
09:47I'm definitely thinking, you know, that was like a question on the top of my head, and
09:50I was staying in the block this week, really, before we get into the preparation for that
09:55as far as the game goes.
09:56So, not right now it doesn't, Nicky.
09:58I recognize the question for sure, but right now we're kind of going into like these two
10:03days as still like a training camp mode.
10:05That'll be like Tuesday and Wednesday and big padded stuff.
10:08So, as far as like how much and starters and what we do, some of it will depend on what
10:13I'm seeing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
10:14So, we've got a bunch of situations that I'm trying to work through.
10:18Two minutes, four minutes, you know, some goal line stuff.
10:21So, this is kind of like our most heightened training camp block coming up.
10:25So, I'm excited to see that.
10:26But we haven't got, in terms of like planning of the game yet, of that part.
10:32It's interesting to listen to.
10:34Let's let Anthony in Martinsville chime in.
10:37What's up, Ant?
10:38Hey, good morning, fellas.
10:40Great to hear your voice.
10:41And I just want to say this.
10:42It really did my soul good to really hear Brian Mitchell and John Riggins do the color
10:48commentary for the game.
10:51Appreciate it.
10:51Every time y'all spoke, it just made us reminisce about like so much of the history that gets
10:57lost.
10:57So, I really want to pat y'all on the back for that.
11:00Appreciate it, man.
11:00And I just want to say this.
11:02And I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
11:04I love Jayden Daniels more than probably next year's mom.
11:08I love him.
11:08I wish him all the best.
11:09But at the same time, I cannot hire you for a job and then be scared to go let you
11:15do
11:15it.
11:16That's all I can say, bro.
11:18We hired you to be a quarterback and to play football.
11:21At some point, you are going to have to go play football.
11:26And if we're scared that you're going to get hurt in the preseason, you're not even playing
11:31against all starters and schemed up defenses.
11:34If we're scared that you're going to trip and hurt yourself in the preseason, what are we
11:38doing here?
11:39I love you, brother.
11:40I do.
11:41But at some point, you've got to get out there and prove to me that you're ready.
11:44It's not Jayden's decision here.
11:46Yeah.
11:47He's not saying, I don't want to play.
11:48I guarantee he wants to play.
11:50I can get back.
11:51I can get back because I don't mean to put it on him.
11:53But I'm just saying this whole scenario where it's always this thing about if he's going
11:58to get hurt and how much should he play because we don't want to expose him.
12:02What are we doing?
12:02It's football.
12:04It's not like we asked you to do something that we didn't hire you to do.
12:07I don't want to be able to step back and realize that.
12:10You've drafted this guy too overall to play football and be your franchise player and
12:15then we're scared to let him touch the field.
12:18It just don't make sense to me.
12:19Somebody's got to step in and say something.
12:21I don't know.
12:22Is it scared if you just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze?
12:28Like to me, I'm not, I don't know.
12:31I understand people want to see him play, but there's just like constant contradiction that
12:36is preseason football and if you want to think that that's acting scared, okay, what if it's
12:44just being prudent?
12:46Yeah, but the thing of it though, Jay, is everybody that doesn't want him to play, when stuff don't
12:55look right in week one or week two, what's the first thing they say?
13:00Why didn't he play in preseason?
13:04I know things have changed, but there is a step you go every week.
13:10Like Dan always talk about the markers they have to hit.
13:15Those markers, if you're not playing, how do I know exactly if you're hitting those markers?
13:22You know what I mean?
13:23Because every week you want to get closer, and I tell you, when I was doing it, we kind
13:30of had a feeling of where we needed to be after the first week, second week, third week.
13:36By the time that third week came, I knew I could go play a full damn game.
13:42And if we had to go into overtime, I could fight through it and go into overtime too.
13:45I don't know if many, listen, this is not just a Washington thing.
13:49I don't know if most teams know that they can go a full quarter, a full game, and have
13:56to go out overtime right now when the season starts.
13:59Because they play three weeks, then they take off another damn week, then they start up the
14:04week for the season.
14:05So the last time most players get on the field, the starters, is two.
14:11They play like this week, and then they got a preseason game, a bye week, three weeks of
14:18not doing fast, fast on the field.
14:20And that is kind of my point of considering the amount of time that's going to be off regardless.
14:29Regardless, is there value to 13 snaps in August?
14:34There's some level of value, and I say this.
14:36I say this because when we talk about Sean McVay and his team, Sean McVay has a veteran
14:41laden team, a team that's been around a long time.
14:44They may be able to go out there.
14:47With Washington this year, you have two coordinators that are doing it for the first time.
14:52You have a lot of young people you're going to be depending upon.
14:55Sean, do you think they can not play and have the same level of readiness as a team
15:01that is full of veterans?
15:04No.
15:05I think that's...
15:07So I understand your point.
15:09I'm just saying with so many young guys and young coordinators, I just think that you
15:14got to try it a little bit and do stuff to protect your guy.
15:18You're not showing much anyway.
15:20Three-step drops, handoff, do the little thing.
15:22But get a little of something going, is all I'm saying.
15:25I think that's fair.
15:26I mean, the one fallacy to the you can get hurt in practice, certainly.
15:30You can absolutely get hurt in practice.
15:32But nobody hits the quarterbacks in practice.
15:35You get into a preseason game.
15:37And honestly, I don't know if people watch this, the Lions' first preseason game was against
15:41the Bengals.
15:42They were smoking Joe Burrow.
15:45And he holds the ball long, too.
15:46Right.
15:47Like, I don't know, man.
15:50I'm going to let my guy Jay weigh in.
15:51Phone lines are open.
15:52800-636-1067.
15:55Jayden Daniels playing in Detroit.
15:56Jay, what do you say?
15:58Hey, look.
15:59Thanks, Jayden.
16:00Talk.
16:01Yeah, man.
16:01Of course you got it.
16:02But like the previous caller just said, what are we really doing?
16:05He has to play.
16:05That's the test.
16:06Putting him on the field of play.
16:07We say the only way to get ready for football is by playing football.
16:11But how do we know he's ready?
16:12I don't know what the big debate is.
16:14So, if you want to be prudent to go to your point, JP, to be prudent, prudent is if you
16:19put him in the game and then you run a couple of plays and you see he's failing a leg
16:23or
16:23something harder.
16:24Prudent is now if I take him out because we don't want to, you know, risk that.
16:27That's being prudent.
16:28But he has to play the game.
16:29So, if you want to put a cap on how long you play on your draft, that's cool.
16:33But the bottom line is he has to play the game.
16:36Point blank.
16:37We say the last season, oh, he didn't get enough time.
16:39He didn't get enough preseason time.
16:40He played one put a snap in the past preseason.
16:44He didn't have no priority.
16:44He looked a little rusty.
16:45He looked off in the first game.
16:47He's a lot of that type stuff.
16:47So, let's not make that same mistake again.
16:50Learn from the past and put him in the game.
16:52Let him play.
16:54I hear you, man.
16:55I hear that he should play.
16:57That dude sounds just like my oldest brother.
17:00Damn, is that drinking coffee?
