00:00I was the executive chef of an Italian restaurant called Chibo.
00:03We were in the Daily News building, like the original Superman movie where Clark Kent's walking through the lobby and
00:08you get the big world and everything.
00:09We were just getting lots of buzz in the city and lots of great reviews.
00:13And I, just like I still do now, go out and work the room and say hi and shake hands
00:18and introduce yourself and say hello.
00:20And I met a woman named Lori Green. I'll never forget her.
00:22She was an executive with the network and she said, everybody's talking about you.
00:25Would you want to be on television?
00:27We have this new network called Food Network and we think you'd be great for it.
00:31And I just immediately said yes. And I've always said yes.
00:33And you show up on time. You know your lines. You know what three and a half minutes is all
00:36about.
00:36You know your recipe, right?
00:38It was like this really incredible experience that, you know, did it.
00:41Wasn't my best performance, but it was good enough for the executive producers to invite me back for another one.
00:47And I just went back to the restaurant. I just sat at my desk in the kitchen.
00:50And I said, today's the first day of the rest of my life.
00:52That's awesome. You were a kid. You were really young.
00:55I was 25 years old.
