00:00It's the most spoken word on the planet, an English word that found its way into virtually
00:04every major language in the world. So have you always wondered, the origin of OK. Now there are
00:11lots of claims to its roots, but most linguists point to a bunch of bored 1800 hipsters in New
00:17England. For reasons no one quite understands, young educated folks started a fad of intentionally
00:22misspelling phrases and then turning them into abbreviations. And we do something similar now,
00:27spelled cool as K-E-W-L or boys with a Z. But there was one phrase that these 19th
00:33century
00:33trendsetters absolutely loved. They took all correct and purposely misspelled all with an O
00:39and correct with a K. So all correct became OK. So every time you say OK, you're basically quoting
00:47a nearly 200 year old inside joke. OK. OK. Always wondered. Stream it now wherever you get your podcasts.
