00:00He's got a rifle. He's got a rifle. Shots fired! Shots fired!
00:06Glenn Perry, later called the epitome of evil by law enforcement.
00:11Armed with an AR-15, he was about to face off with two officers.
00:15What began as a routine traffic stop would soon become an incident that shook the entire community.
00:21It was April 8th, 2023, at a quiet intersection in Cameron, Wisconsin,
00:27when Officer Emily Breidenbach was on her routine patrol and spotted Glenn Perry's vehicle.
00:33But something wasn't right.
00:34Earlier that day, a Barron County Sheriff's Captain had sent out a warning email,
00:39stating Perry's mental health had been deteriorating,
00:42that he was armed and increasingly hostile toward law enforcement.
00:46With an active warrant for unpaid child support, Officer Breidenbach knew this could escalate.
00:52She didn't pull him over right away, but called for backup.
00:56Soon, 23-year-old Officer Hunter Scheele arrived at the scene, ready to assist her.
01:05He's got a rifle. He's got a rifle. Shots fired! Shots fired!
01:14Officer down! Officer down! Officer down!
01:16Officer down!
01:31Officer down!
01:32Body cam captured the heartbreaking moment when Officer Hunter Scheele went down.
01:36Through the chaos, his radio call for support echoed to other officers,
01:40signaling the need for urgent help.
01:44Officer down! Officer down! Officer down!
01:50Officer down! Officer down! Officer down! Officer down!
02:07Not long after, a 911 call came in from a witness nearby.
02:12Barron County 911, where is your emergency?
02:15Hi, I'm actually just sitting here.
02:20I ended up pulling over because I saw a dog in the middle of the road,
02:25and then all of a sudden I see an officer down and a gentleman on the ground.
02:31Looks like he's bleeding on his leg and a rifle on the ground as well.
02:34Yeah, we got people on the way there, okay?
02:36Where exactly are you at?
02:39Three, two, seven, barron. I'm only copying parts. Is he still on team?
02:45Three, two, seven, we have two officers. Two officers down. He is sent up with a rifle.

03:03We have an officer involved shooting. Your officer was involved. We're not sure what the status is right now,
03:08but 6, 08 and we know for sure 6, 14 were down.

03:19Officer while shooting, two officers.

03:30We need you to come out.
03:31Oh, okay.
03:33They're double us just south of Cameron, Glenn, Perry.
03:37A couple officers, so.
03:40Oh.
03:41So, we need you to come out, okay?
03:44Okay, thanks, bye.
03:45In no time, all available police units were mobilized to the location, racing to secure the area.
03:55We're requesting all detectives, please.
03:58Requesting all detectives.
04:00Okay.

04:28Yeah, we're making an approach.
04:29That is way next to the right hand.
04:30Yeah, we see it.
04:32All right, it's on his left.
04:35All right.

05:07Did we get back there?
05:10Yes.
05:11We got two out.
05:12She's down.
05:13We got 195.
05:17He's, that guy's also shot.
05:18Are you guys doing a ghost in the car?
05:20They're ghost in the car.
05:21Hold on.
05:21Clear.
05:22Clear.
05:23I got it.
05:23I got it.
05:26No.
05:27No.
05:27Back's clear.
05:28Front's clear.
05:29Front's clear.
05:30Got another rifle up front.
05:33Let me mess up.
05:35When officers arrived at the scene, Glenn Perry was found bleeding from a single gunshot wound
05:40to his leg with the AR-15 rifle he used to kill the officers lying beside him.
05:45Perry bled to death from the injury.
05:48Later, a search of his home revealed eight more firearms, large amounts of ammunition,
05:53and disturbing writings detailing plans for special ops-style missions targeting specific individuals.
05:59Officers Breidenbach and Scheel likely saved countless lives that day.
06:04Perry, armed and dangerous, stood for a full minute after the shooting,
06:09and his premeditated actions posed a direct threat to other officers and passing civilians.
06:14The district attorney described Perry as the epitome of evil.
06:18Just the day before the shooting, an alert was sent out warning officers about Perry's
06:22animosity toward law enforcement, urging extreme caution.
06:26Perry also had a warrant out for unpaid child support.
06:29It was because of this warning that officers Breidenbach and Scheel waited until he was outside
06:34of town to initiate the stop.
06:36Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows Perry immediately opening fire after
06:41being pulled over, with 3D animations later illustrating the 10 bullets that struck Officer
06:46Breidenbach's squad car.
06:48Had Perry not been stopped that day, it's likely that more first responders or even passing drivers
06:53would have been at risk.
06:55That 50-year-old Glenn Perry had been civilly committed back in 2011.
06:58When that expired, his legal right to own firearms had been reinstated.
07:02But the day before he murdered two officers, a warning had gone out that his mental health
07:07had again declined.
07:09He'd made statements against law enforcement, saying even that the creator, he said, had given
07:14him authority to defend himself at all costs.
07:17The district attorney's report concluded that the bravery and sacrifice of officers Breidenbach
07:22and Scheel prevented further tragedy.
07:24As law enforcement officers from near and far gathered to mourn their fallen brother and
07:29sister.
07:38And even many who had never met these officers are still grieving.
07:42Their hearts heavy, their souls weary.
07:45You didn't know them, so what made you still want to come out here and support them today?
07:49The uniform they wore.
07:51They protect me and everybody else.
07:55I am calling to see if we can have a couple of your officers do a death notification for
08:00one of our officers.
08:02They just have specified death notification for their daughter, Emily.
08:06It's not all about your heart attack.
