00:28August 13 did not go unnoticed in Mexico. At several locations, events were held to commemorate
00:34the 100th birth anniversary of Fidel Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution. Diplomats,
00:49intellectuals and friends of Cuba in general reaffirmed that Commander Fidel Castro's political
00:54thought remains relevant. Mexican left-wing culture has all its roots and origins in the
01:02Cuban Revolution. It is a major criticism that has been made against us, but I embrace it because
01:10it is the truth. We learned a great deal from Fidel's political thought and from the Cuban
01:17Revolution. It is clear evidence that socialism and humanism are possible.
01:41Multiple events have been held in honor of the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
01:50Cubans often ask themselves, and I have heard this frequently, as if an educational army of life
01:55itself were being mobilized in the face of adversity, what would Fidel have done in this or that situation?
02:05I am Fidel, the crowd shouts. It is the essence of the resistance in Cuba, which is reborn every day
02:13through creativity and countless forms of survival, embodying that unparalleled resistance.
02:22Several books have been presented documenting the history and political ideas of the Cuban leader,
02:28including the defense of sovereignty, solidarity, and unity in Latin America.
02:36It is not about dwelling on nostalgia. It is because Fidel is a compass for facing the storm that the
02:41Cuban people are going through. In other words, it is not simply about remembering him. If we do not
02:46turn to his way of thinking and how he faced so many difficulties, we would not be able to overcome
02:50the challenges we face today. Mexicans and Cubans reiterated their commitment to promoting regional
02:57unity in the face of shared challenges, including what they described as U.S. interference. They also
03:04rejected the more than six-decade-old blockade against Cuba. The Cuban people are suffering from a
03:12severely weakened economy, and this is caused by many things that could be discussed. But Fidel's legacy
03:18remains present in us, out of respect and a sense of belonging, as I said. And many of the achievements
03:26in Cuba are thanks to the legacy of the revolution.
03:29The commemorations will continue throughout 2026 with academic and cultural activities.
03:37100 years after Fidel Castro's birth, and 10 years after his death, it is clear that his political
03:43legacy remains a guide for confronting the adversities facing Latin America.
