00:00Minecraft may look simple at first, but there's a lot of useful mechanics and features that the
00:04game never really explains to you. Here are 25 tips and tricks that every survival player should
00:08know. Now, kicking us off, boats may be much more useful than you first thought. Of course,
00:12we know that they're a fast way to travel over water, but they actually have a lot of other
00:15practical uses. Firstly, if you come up to the edge of a cliff or a large drop in a cave
00:19and
00:20want to quickly get down, simply place a boat and ride it off the edge. Once you land, you can
00:24hop
00:24out and walk off with no damage taken whatsoever. They're also really handy for controlling mobs.
00:30For example, you can trap most hostile mobs in a boat for a safe method of fighting them.
00:33Simply place down the boat in its path and wait for them to walk in. Now, just be careful,
00:37this trick doesn't work on all mobs. They're also a great way to transport villagers around,
00:43which we all know can be pretty annoying at times. And it also gives you a safe way to bring
00:47your
00:47pets along with you, so they can help protect you on your next exploration journey. Another item
00:52that's always in my inventory, perhaps even more useful than the boat, and that is the good old
00:55water bucket. Now, we all know these are great when caving to clear large lava lakes or to say
00:59your life if you happen to fall into one, but its use doesn't stop there. Let's say you want to
01:03get
01:03up to a high ledge or quickly climb up a mountain. Buckets can let you do that. Simply place the
01:07water
01:08above you and swim up. Once at the top, pick up and quickly replace the water higher than where it
01:12was
01:12and rinse and repeat. It might take a bit of practice to get the timing down, but once you've
01:16mastered this, you'll be using it everywhere. And of course, on the flip side, let's say you want to
01:20get down somewhere. Water can be used to remove any food damage. You can use a safe option like this
01:25and slowly follow it down. Or if you're short on time, go for something a little riskier. Just make
01:30sure you get the timing right. Now, what if you're in the nether? We all know water doesn't work here.
01:35Well, we can use powdered snow instead. It works pretty much the same as water. Simply place it down
01:40below your feet as you fall and then pick it back up again. Another method here is to use the
01:44boat
01:44trick from earlier, or you could also opt for a slime block if you want a bit more fun.
01:49Now, powdered snow's use doesn't just stop there. If you grab two buckets, you can use it to climb up
01:55a trace. To do this, first, make sure you've got some leather boots to prevent falling through the
01:58snow. From here, place the first bucket and stand on top and then jump and place the second bucket
02:03below you. Now, if you look over the edge, you'll see that you can pick up the first block that
02:07we
02:07placed. Now, just rinse and repeat however high you need to go. And again, once you get the timing
02:11down on this, this can be a very fast method of transport and you'll no longer have those ugly
02:15dirt pillars all over your world. Next up, here's a simple trick to make building your next XP farm much
02:20easier. If you didn't know, pointed dripstone can be used to double any fall damage. This makes it
02:25perfect for mob farms where you want to weaken mobs before finishing them off. By using dripstone,
02:29you'll only have to drop your mobs from half the distance than you would have done before.
02:32This saves you time and resources when building your next mob elevator. Now, this next one is
02:36especially useful for content creators or just people that like to share their builds with friends.
02:40Let's say you've just built a house you're really proud of, like this one for example.
02:44Next time you go to take a screenshot, try lowering the FOV for a more cinematic look. I like to
02:48go all
02:48the way down to 30. You can clearly see the difference this one change makes. I also use this trick
02:52for creating the cinematic shots you see in my tutorials. A very simple trick, but definitely
02:57one to start using. Now, here's another trick for getting nicer looking screenshots, especially if
03:02you're using a shader pack, and that is getting the right time of day. You want to make sure the
03:05sun is
03:06behind you and lighting up the build from the front. I personally love to use early morning or
03:10late evening for those golden hour vibes. Here's a simple trick I like to use to save resources.
03:15Say you've just built a house and need to fill in the floor, always consider using slabs instead of full
03:19blocks where possible. They give you the exact same look from above, but at the cost of half the
03:23materials. This may not mean much on a small house like this, but for a larger project, this could
03:27save you hours of resource collecting, giving you more time to spend on building. Now, this slab trick
03:32isn't just useful when building. Picture yourself in this situation. You're deep in a cave when your
03:36pickaxe dies, and you don't quite have enough blocks to build out. Doubling your full blocks into
03:40slabs may just give you enough blocks to escape and survive for another day. Now, yes, you could always
03:45mine out by hand, but I know which method I'd rather do. And on the topic of resources, what
03:49actually is the fastest way to farm wood? For large projects, farming wood can get really tedious if
03:54you're constantly running from tree to tree. The best tree to harvest wood from is of course the
03:57two by two spruce trees. If you start at the bottom and staircase up, you can simply mine the rest
04:01on the
04:01way back down. And on its own, it's already way better than using the smaller alternatives. But let's
04:06take it up a notch. We can grow one large super tree by growing multiple of these together. To do
04:10this,
04:10plant your saplings in a square and start bone mealing from the northwest corner. For some reason,
04:14the other corners don't work and just burn through your bone meal. Once fully grown, you'll have one
04:18giant spruce tree. Simply staircase to the top and chop downwards. This method is also perfect to make
04:23a starter base from. And if you're interested, you can download a world full of over 300 builds over
04:27on my Patreon. Link is down below. Now, sometimes it's a lot safer to fight from a distance with a
04:32bow instead of getting up close with a sword, especially in the nether against ghasts and blazes.
04:37However, the downside is that you miss out on the looting effect from your sword. Well, if you use your
04:41bow in
04:41the offhand whilst holding a looting sword in your main hand, you'll still benefit from the looting
04:45enchantment, meaning you can safely fight from range while still getting the increased drops.
04:49But what if you don't yet have a bow and getting up close is your only option? Well, we can
04:53actually
04:53use creepers to our advantage. If you ignite a creeper using a flint and steel, you can force it
04:57to stay in place and explode. Now, on its own, this might not seem that useful, but it becomes really
05:01effective when there are other mobs nearby. You can basically turn the creeper into your own
05:05weapon, using the explosion to damage or clear out groups of enemies without needing strong gear
05:09yourself. Now, if there's one mob that can still be pretty annoying to fight, it's the endermen.
05:13Luckily though, there are a few really easy ways to deal with them safely. The classic method is to
05:17use a two block tall gap. Since endermen are three blocks tall, they physically can't fit underneath.
05:21Just dig into the side of a hill or build a quick structure like this and you're good to go.
05:25But what if it's more of an emergency? You could also place down a water bucket below you. And
05:29since endermen take damage from water and won't walk into it, it gives you a really easy way to
05:33control the fight. And finally, my favourite, remember that boat trick from earlier? It works on
05:37endermen too. If you place a boat near them, you can trap them inside, stopping them from
05:40teleporting around and making them much easier to deal with. Well, now you know how to get ender
05:44pearls easily. But what about some cool uses for them? They're of course great for quickly getting
05:48around, but they also have another great use. You can actually use them to clip through solid walls.
05:52To do this, head up to a wall and make sure you're holding forwards. Aim down and throw the pearl
05:56just before the wall. If you get the right angle, you'll end up on the other side. Now, this could
06:00just be
06:00a fun trick to show off to your friends, but it could also be used for a completely invisible entrance
06:04to
06:04your secret base. Now, what if you do just want to use the pearls for transport? There's a few things
06:11we can do to throw them further. Firstly, the best angle to throw is around 40 degrees. You can check
06:15your F3 screen for the exact angle, but after a while, you'll know it off by heart. Now, this isn't
06:20the only way to throw further. If you throw the pearl just after jumping as you're moving upwards,
06:24you'll gain slightly more distance. And to take it up even further, combine jumping with sprinting,
06:29and now you'll have gained another 10 blocks. This could be really useful when you're out
06:32exploring the end dimension. With these tricks, you can now reach islands you couldn't have done
06:36before. Now, this trick doesn't only work for pearls. It's the same for most projectiles in the
06:40game. It's especially useful for splash potions to reach further away targets, or perhaps you're
06:45having a snowball fight with a friend. You can now catch them off guard with a long range shot.
06:49Speaking of splash potions, in the past, you may have been told that to get the full potion duration,
06:54you had to throw it up and land it on your head compared to throwing it at the ground.
06:57However, this changed in update 1.21.6, and now it only depends on the distance between the
07:01potion to the entity. So in short, throwing at your feet is just fine now, and you'll get the
07:06full duration that you expect. Now, if you're anything like me, you probably love building
07:09with calcite. It's just such a clean and versatile block, but a lot of people assume that the only
07:13way to get it is by finding an amethyst geode underground, which can be pretty annoying.
07:17But calcite actually generates naturally in stony mountain biomes as massive strips near the
07:21surface. Now, granted, you do still need to find a mountain, but it's a whole lot easier than
07:25endlessly searching underground for geodes, so keep an eye out when you're next exploring.
07:29Moving away from building for a moment is a really useful trick for villagers. If one of
07:32these guys don't have the trades you want, simply break their workstation and place it
07:35back down. This will reset their trades, giving you a chance to roll something better without
07:39needing to find a new villager. Now note, this doesn't work on a villager that you've already
07:42traded with, but for a fresh villager, it works no problem. Now, perhaps you've already traded
07:47with a villager and just want to get rid of them for whatever reason. You may know that if you
07:51remove them, the other villagers won't be too happy and their trades will become worse.
07:55If you want to avoid this, just use a flint and steel. This won't trigger the usual reputation
07:59penalty, and the other villagers won't increase their prices.
08:02Now, when it comes to finding diamonds, the lower you mine, the better your chances become,
08:06and technically speaking, minus 58 spawns the most diamonds. But at this level, you'll just
08:10be running into lava lakes, which isn't fun and just slows you down. That's why minus 54 is
08:15considered the sweet spot. You're low enough to find a good amount of diamonds while staying above
08:19all lava lakes, making it much safer and more efficient overall. And to take it a step further,
08:23you could combine this with the crawling method. Simply flip a trapdoor and you're good to go.
08:27Compared to the usual tunnel where you reveal three blocks for every one block mined,
08:31crawling reveals four per block mined, making it 33% more efficient. But you may realise crawling is
08:36quite slow, so to fix this, make sure you've got the swift sneak enchantment on your leggings.
08:40For some reason, this works for crawling as well as sneaking, but we won't complain.
08:43With all these diamonds you're going to be mining, as well as a bunch of other ores,
08:47inventory space can start to become a problem very quickly. A really simple way to save space while
08:51mining is by crafting your ores into full blocks. It's particularly useful on redstone and lapis,
08:55especially when you have a fortune pickaxe. This massively cuts down on the inventory slots you
08:59use and lets you stay underground for much longer before needing to head back home.
09:03Now, fortune isn't only useful for mining ores, it actually has another great use. We all of course
09:07have some kind of crop farm like this, but if you're harvesting everything by hand, you're missing
09:11out on a lot of extra loot. Just like with ores, using fortune on crops can increase the amount of
09:16items you get back, especially things like carrots, potatoes and wheat seeds. But note,
09:19this doesn't work for wheat itself. Now, I understand fortune 3 isn't something everyone
09:23has access to in the early game, but next time you're exploring, keep an eye out for ruined portals.
09:28It's actually pretty common to find enchanted golden tools in these chests, and sometimes
09:32they'll come with fortune already on them. And even though golden tools have terrible durability,
09:36harvesting crops doesn't use durability at all. So if you keep one specifically for farming,
09:40it can basically last forever and give you loads of extra resources over time.
09:44And there we have it. If you learned something new, please drop a like and subscribe.
09:47Otherwise, thank you very much for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
